Illinois voting records show the Pope as registered Republican.

I love the photo... perfect for a little Photoshop fun đŸ’©

by Anonymousreply 1May 12, 2025 4:17 PM

Trashy fake hypocrites - same old story

by Anonymousreply 2May 12, 2025 4:17 PM

Wait until he finds out that according to MAGA he and his brother are woke half-Black liberals now.

by Anonymousreply 3May 12, 2025 4:20 PM

[quote]Illinois voting records show the Pope as registered Republican.

Worst fucking timeline.

by Anonymousreply 4May 12, 2025 4:29 PM

The stuff on the brother's Facebook page is much worse than what's being reported in HuffPo and Daily Beast.

-Islamphobia

-Misogynist memes about Kamala Harris

-Racist meme of a bad AI image of Kamala at a "Hatiian Grill Restaurant" with animals around her.

-Plenty of very hateful anti-immigrant memes and one meme stating that all the "illegals should be flown out of the country".

by Anonymousreply 5May 12, 2025 4:52 PM

the honeymoon is over

by Anonymousreply 6May 12, 2025 4:53 PM

Is this another

When Racists Find Out They Are Part Black,

threads?

by Anonymousreply 7May 12, 2025 4:59 PM

& the Pope came out today and issued an “ordinance” against hateful speech?

by Anonymousreply 8May 12, 2025 5:01 PM

I thought Illinois has no party registration?

by Anonymousreply 9May 12, 2025 5:03 PM

the Illinois brother seems a lot more composed, erudite

by Anonymousreply 10May 12, 2025 5:06 PM

[quote]There is no party registration in Illinois, but to vote in a primary you have to choose a party's ballot to vote on. Prevost has voted in more Republican primaries than Democratic, and the last primary election he voted in was the 2016 Republican presidential primary.

Infer from that what you will.

R10
morrow*

by Anonymousreply 12May 12, 2025 5:07 PM

r10 In this case, we're waiting for the other ruby slipper to drop, very softly.

by Anonymousreply 13May 12, 2025 5:10 PM

We are not responsible for the thoughts, actions or deeds of our siblings. My oldest brother was a right wing, racist, homophobe biker / truck driver. Still can't believe we were raised in the same household.

by Anonymousreply 14May 12, 2025 5:11 PM

I did not need to see Pope Leo's brother's O-face, OP.

by Anonymousreply 15May 12, 2025 5:21 PM

The Republican Party has changed a lot since 2016. And, as part of the Great Realignment, there are lots of Never Trumpers who are now fiercely Democratic.

by Anonymousreply 16May 12, 2025 5:22 PM

As someone who suffered through 4 years of Augustinian high school education (mid-west Province of OSA), I don't remember encountering a single OSA who was a champion of civil rights, civil liberties, worker rights, women's rights, ending the war in Viet Nam, etc. They all seemed to occupy some amoral no man's land, and championed a "don't ever rock the boat" philosophy.

by Anonymousreply 17May 12, 2025 5:23 PM

r17 Thank you for confirming my the suspicion that this Augustinian concern for the poor and social justice is a more recent development, I found it quite odd when I first heard about it this week. Probably the influence of liberation theology on Prevost after spending so much time in South America.

by Anonymousreply 18May 12, 2025 5:31 PM

R11 you can infer nothing. He voted in Democratic primaries in 2008 and 2010.

Why do you all keep trying to analyze the state of affairs through domestic U.S. politics? It’s utterly irrelevant to how the Church works. You’re wasting your time.

by Anonymousreply 19May 12, 2025 5:33 PM

He lives in Florida. What do you expect?

by Anonymousreply 20May 12, 2025 5:34 PM

R18 hasn’t a clue for how and why the Augustinians had a significant presence in Peru.

by Anonymousreply 21May 12, 2025 5:35 PM

Is it that shocking that a Catholic priest voted Republican? A lot of religious people voted for Trump because of abortion, they knew he would replace Scalia with a right to lifer, and any subsequent judicial nominees would also be right to life.

by Anonymousreply 22May 12, 2025 5:35 PM

That Oder is a missionary order based on the rule of community. It has always been that way.

by Anonymousreply 23May 12, 2025 5:35 PM

I remember in the 1980s when i lived in Boston, that asshole Alan Dershowitz protested someone speaking at Harvard because the speaker's father was a Nazi, even though the person himself (some academic) was decidedly NOT a Nazi. I didn't understand (and don't now) how you can visit the crimes of family members onto their children or their siblings. If that were a genuine ethical position to take, then we would have had to have executed Svetlana Stalin when she emigrated to the USA.

by Anonymousreply 24May 12, 2025 5:38 PM

Order!

by Anonymousreply 25May 12, 2025 5:38 PM

supposedly the brothers talk a few times a week đŸ˜±

by Anonymousreply 26May 12, 2025 5:56 PM

R14 - same here. It's crazy how different siblings can be. My oldest brother was somewhat similar - he had an affinity for blue-collar stuff and 'regular' folks.

His friends were often taken aback when they met us - he was raised UMC with two college-educated parents. I think he was rebelling from all of that - but it was just so weird to see.

Frankly, I wouldn't be friends with either of my siblings if they weren't in my family. My second brother is also way different from me. We're like 3 strangers born to the same parents in some nature vs. nurture experiment. We have very little in common.

by Anonymousreply 27May 12, 2025 6:09 PM

This new Pope was covering up child molestation.

by Anonymousreply 28May 12, 2025 6:51 PM

Louis Prevost lives in Florida. What did you expect?

by Anonymousreply 29May 12, 2025 9:44 PM

The pope is a homophobe. There have been and still are thousands of self-hating gay priests, bishops, archbishops and popes throughout history. The new pope is no different.

by Anonymousreply 30May 12, 2025 9:46 PM

This is what happens when you hire an American.

by Anonymousreply 31May 12, 2025 9:50 PM

No one should be surprised that an anti-abortion Catholic would be a registered Republican. But that doesn't mean this new Pope is not an anti-MAGA reformer like Pope Francis.

by Anonymousreply 32May 13, 2025 5:04 AM

That's exactly what I was going to say, r31.

by Anonymousreply 33May 13, 2025 5:22 AM

The last Pope was a collaborator in Argentina's Dirty War - so what's new?

by Anonymousreply 34May 13, 2025 7:34 AM

R34 say WHAT? As an argentinean do you have absolutely ANYTHING to back this up?

by Anonymousreply 35May 13, 2025 7:44 AM

R30 who cares?! He disagreed with Vance once on twitter. That means he is a total MAGA hater. Isn't that more important?

by Anonymousreply 36May 13, 2025 7:46 AM

This idea/wet dream american TDR progresives have that the new Pope secretly loathes Trump and will be BIG MEAN to him and that under the cloak he is wearing a rainbow flag will never not be hilarious. Idk who's dumber to fall for it, dumb Maga types or TDR idiots.

He will be properly on the side of the poor so he might be for open borders. Thats about it.

by Anonymousreply 37May 13, 2025 7:52 AM

He probably voted in the 2016 Republican primary to get the MAGA candidate out.

Like Michael Moore being a member of the NRA and having shares in GM so he could cause havoc at their annual general meeting.

by Anonymousreply 38May 13, 2025 8:05 AM

People change. For instance, Tim Miller was a registered Republican a decade ago and I wouldn't have given him the time of day, yet he's one of the guy I would love to have a beer with, especially around Mardi Gras, now that he lives in New Orleans. Same goes with Rick Wilson. I think today Tim is registered as a Democrat and Rick as an Independent.

by Anonymousreply 39May 13, 2025 8:26 AM

This thread is full of loons and naĂŻfs.

It’s the Pope, not a podcaster. You people are nuts in trying to shoehorn the Holy See into your little political box of chocolates.

by Anonymousreply 40May 13, 2025 8:42 AM

Louis will be taking over for Hegseth on Fox weekends.

by Anonymousreply 41May 13, 2025 9:11 AM

Guys, he's the pope. At best, gay people make him feel "icky" even if he is one under those robes, and women's sexuality makes him downright nauseous. He believes abortion is murder and god made men extra special so only they get to be priests.

He's not progressive or even liberal. He grew up in the 1960s, entered the Catholic priesthood, and stuck with it for life, rising to the very top. He's not some firebrand, he's the ultimate "company man," and he's not your friend, even if once or twice you agree on something.

by Anonymousreply 42May 13, 2025 1:12 PM

R40 it's so fucking Trump Derangement Syndrome-y. People here care more about one tweet critiquing Vance than him disagreeing with alot of Pope Francis's new advances on LGBT.

by Anonymousreply 43May 13, 2025 1:14 PM

You’re a bit mixed up yourself, there^

by Anonymousreply 44May 13, 2025 1:21 PM

Anyone paying attention knew these brothers' willingness to come out onto their front lawns for an immediate press availability were going to be a problem.

by Anonymousreply 45May 13, 2025 1:26 PM

What—did you think there were Swiss Guards to fly over and keep them incommunicado?!

by Anonymousreply 46May 13, 2025 1:29 PM

Show me one statement that he has made about disagreeing with Pope Francis on LGBT in the past 12 years.

Is it not possible that he would be a little more accepting today because of Francis's influence? The remarks that have people so up in arms about were made during Benedict's time. For all we know he was just going along with the status quo at the time. He is in a totally different position now, with different responsibilities.

Everyone here is just making assumptions as if they were proven facts.

by Anonymousreply 47May 13, 2025 1:32 PM

I think they're saying the brothers' eagerness to engage with the press bodes poorly for the new Pope's P.R. image, but your kneejerk attempt at "humor" is noted.

The brothers are a problem along the lines of Billy Carter or Roger Clinton. Most of us see that, R47.

by Anonymousreply 48May 13, 2025 1:33 PM

Who are you to judge R43

by Anonymousreply 49May 13, 2025 1:33 PM

Sorry that was meant for R46.

by Anonymousreply 50May 13, 2025 1:34 PM

R48 you’re hilarious. What don’t you get about this—you can’t view it through a domestic political lens. Do you think the Vatican gives a rat’s ass, or is even paying attention, to news of his brothers.

They will be there on May 18, with flattering coverage of a loving reunion with their kid brother THE. POPE.

by Anonymousreply 51May 13, 2025 1:37 PM

[quote]What—did you think there were Swiss Guards to fly over and keep them incommunicado?!

No.

I am saying that if ever there was proof positive that God's representative here on earth is a plain old human being just like anyone else ... well, this is it.

by Anonymousreply 52May 13, 2025 1:40 PM

R51, you're hysterical. No, really, you're nuts. You seem ready to fight everyone over everything. Calm the fuck down, hon.

by Anonymousreply 53May 13, 2025 1:40 PM

I don't see his brother's actions hurting his image. Not in today's polarized, extremist America where everyone has crazy family members they don't agree with politically.

by Anonymousreply 54May 13, 2025 1:42 PM

MAGAs are loving it. Normal people are "oh dearing" and withholding judgment.

I thought talking as much as they did to the media was not a good sign.

by Anonymousreply 55May 13, 2025 5:53 PM

May not be reflection on new pope but the Florida brother has and continues to say some terrible things and will be embraced by some of MAGA. Very Sad.

by Anonymousreply 56May 13, 2025 11:07 PM

I have low expectations for this pope, or any pope for that matter. they will NEVER accept LGBT people - it would mean the end of the priesthood - without the guilt and escape for gay men, there would be no priests - and to allow them to marry, well that would create heirs which is not what they want. It's all chaching.....all about the money.....he is a registered repug which means he's completely ok with millions of people suffering, but people with his color skin, born where he was....well they just don't get dinged by these policies - until they do - then they care and find out they aren't part of the billionaire club - and never will be.

by Anonymousreply 57May 13, 2025 11:42 PM

We can now safely move on. Peace be with you.

R57 they accept LGBT people in THEIR OWN WAY 😉

by Anonymousreply 59May 14, 2025 7:39 PM

I know R57, isn't that a laugh riot? Well they try, bless their hearts.

by Anonymousreply 60May 14, 2025 9:02 PM

We haven't had a fuck up, too forthcoming power sibling since Roger Clinton. It's Billy Carter time!

by Anonymousreply 61May 14, 2025 9:08 PM

"Anyone paying attention knew these brothers' willingness to come out onto their front lawns for an immediate press availability were going to be a problem."

If a sibling of mine had been elevated to such an elevated position, I would have kept a very low profile for a very long time. If and when I did comment, it would only be in the vaguest of terms, i.e. Congratulations, brother.

These brothers of the Pope's are both inveterate fame whores looking for a big pay day.

by Anonymousreply 62May 14, 2025 9:12 PM

he isn't the brightest bulb in the family

by Anonymousreply 63May 14, 2025 9:58 PM

The pope's older brother, Louis, is a MAGA asshole. When Nancy Pelosi's husband was attacked in his home by a late night intruder wielding a hammer, Louis Prevost tweeted calling the intruder one of Paul Pelosi's "Grindr dates."

Louis Prevost also tweeted out calling Nancy Pelosi a "drunk cunt."

Fucking moron.

by Anonymousreply 64May 14, 2025 10:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 67May 15, 2025 5:28 AM

Was the brother wrong about Pelosi? She has utterly failed her party, especially in the last 18 months. She is completely unable to accept reality.
