R14 - same here. It's crazy how different siblings can be. My oldest brother was somewhat similar - he had an affinity for blue-collar stuff and 'regular' folks.

His friends were often taken aback when they met us - he was raised UMC with two college-educated parents. I think he was rebelling from all of that - but it was just so weird to see.

For instance, Tim Miller was a registered Republican a decade ago and I wouldn't have given him the time of day, yet he's one of the guy I would love to have a beer with, especially around Mardi Gras, now that he lives in New Orleans.
