When people are laying down the appearance of a double chin can occur. It always shocked me to see the very thin actor Christopher Lee as Dracula in a coffin with a double chin.

It looks like they added some prosthetics to his face to make him look chubby.

It's probably a "flashback" scene meant to depict Clark Kent when he was younger and not yet the hunk to come.
