Should I catch up on “And Just Like That”?

I have started to rewatch the first season. I forgot how tedious it was - they really didn’t miss any woke cliché of the early 2020s. I know they tried to atone for the abomination of the SATC 2 movie but it’s just too much. Miranda, in particular is insufferable. Does it get better in season 2 and afterwards?

by Anonymousreply 48May 14, 2025 5:12 PM

I stopped watching after the original run of the series. They couldn't get better than that.

by Anonymousreply 1May 12, 2025 2:13 AM

Nope. It is bad. Difficult or not, Kim Cattrall was the only smart one for avoiding it.

by Anonymousreply 2May 12, 2025 3:43 AM

So the second season is as insufferable as the first one?

by Anonymousreply 3May 12, 2025 10:26 AM

It’s not great, and not great in a very odd way. The writers don’t seem to understand where the story is, or what the viewers want. What should feel like comfort food has instead been a slog, with only the tiniest of flashes of the old series’ tone.

by Anonymousreply 4May 12, 2025 11:09 AM

I thought it did get better in season 2, but maybe that’s because season 1 was so awful my expectations for season 2 were rock bottom. One of the main improvements is they stopped making Carrie and Miranda seem in their mid 70s instead of mid 50s.

by Anonymousreply 5May 12, 2025 11:16 AM

I thought they made Miranda seem a decade or two younger in the first season. Hitting her sexual peak, leaving her husband and career, chasing after Che.

I'd love to answer you, but I've blocked out the whole miserable mess.

by Anonymousreply 8May 12, 2025 12:11 PM

You know SJP.

Once she's off and galloping, the mane struggle to rein her in, and you’ll be saddled with defeat trying to catch up to her hoof-hearted sprint!

No matter how you stirrup your courage, she’s always a furlong ahead, leaving you in the dust of her unbridled pace.

by Anonymousreply 9May 12, 2025 12:13 PM

I gave up. It's terrible. Such obvious pandering to show how woke and with-it they are now. The characters became caricatures. I couldn't even hate watch it.

by Anonymousreply 10May 12, 2025 12:17 PM

Look either you love to hate this show or you just don’t watch it lol.

Miranda and Carrie both pay their prices for being idiots in season 2 and the non-original characters become a bit more endearing so there is that.

by Anonymousreply 11May 12, 2025 12:18 PM

It’s THIRTYSOMETHING in a world that didn’t need that rebooted.

by Anonymousreply 12May 12, 2025 1:51 PM

I did hate-watch Sex in And the City 2 and I have to admit I had fun. The movie is so god-awful it’s hard to believe. Two and a half hours of sheer cringe. Wasn’t Nixon running fur governess or something when they made her say “Abu-Dhabi-Do”?

by Anonymousreply 13May 12, 2025 2:50 PM

At least hate watch the scene where Miranda gets fingered banged by Che Diaz in Carrie’s kitchen, while Carrie (who is recovering from surgery, and who Miranda is supposed to be helping ) pisses her bed.

by Anonymousreply 14May 12, 2025 3:27 PM

It's a good hate watch.

by Anonymousreply 15May 12, 2025 3:31 PM

Which episode is that R14?

by Anonymousreply 16May 13, 2025 1:13 AM

That scene with the aggressive clown in the subway because, yeah, that’s what’s happening…

They even worked in “white savior complex”.

by Anonymousreply 17May 13, 2025 1:17 AM

SJP demanded that her character be dressed in ridiculously expensive designer clothes because her contract stipulated she gets to keep it all...

...and just like that, she was led to water AND drank from it.

There, you're caught up.

by Anonymousreply 18May 13, 2025 1:20 AM

Season 1, episode 5, r16.

Thx, R19

by Anonymousreply 20May 13, 2025 1:43 AM

I’m watching season 2 now and it’s some ridiculous shit but I want to finish it. Maybe because the original series has a soft spot in my heart. This is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen

by Anonymousreply 21May 13, 2025 2:17 AM

I’m on the episode where Miranda’s son gets dumped and she rushes home after causing a scene at Che’s sitcom filming

by Anonymousreply 22May 13, 2025 2:24 AM

The problem is MPK is so dead set on what he and his writers are doing that he takes delight in viewers hating it. It's nuts. He could be creating something that continued SATCs legacy and the audience's love. Instead, he tests them by throwing in a parade of kids no one cares about, horribly dull characters who are only there because they aren't white, and jerking the audience around with hints of a return to form that never materializes. HBO/Max needs to fire him and get someone in there who can whip this shit into state and do the audience right.

by Anonymousreply 23May 13, 2025 2:38 AM

Of all the ridiculousness which is this show, the thing that irritates me most is Miranda's self-righteousness about cheating.

When Steve does it ONE time, she flips out. She cheats regularly, but she's justified somehow because...lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 24May 13, 2025 2:43 AM

Cynthia Nixon is my least favorite actress EVER, plus I think she is a TERRIBLE actress on her best day.

I watched a little of the original series as well as the first movie, but I simply cannot look at Cynthia Nixon's face on purpose!

by Anonymousreply 25May 13, 2025 3:33 AM

The sex scenes between her and Che are disgusting

by Anonymousreply 26May 13, 2025 3:39 AM

I thought they utterly squandered the Samantha cameo. In my ideal cameo, she would have surprised Carrie on the street and then there would be an across-the-street shot of them hugging or something.

Maybe the phone thing was all Kim would agree to.

by Anonymousreply 27May 13, 2025 10:57 AM

Is Aiden still insufferable?

Is Charlotte still acting like a high school drama student?

by Anonymousreply 28May 13, 2025 11:41 AM

R27 It was. She will not agree to appear onscreen with the other actors, particularly SJP. It was the best they could do, and at least it indicates that Samantha is out there being her usual Samantha self. The story they tried to spin in the first season that Samantha was mad at Carrie for being fired as her publicist and not talking to her was ridiculous. Samantha would never do that! She’d always done stuff for Carrie for free.

by Anonymousreply 29May 13, 2025 11:59 AM

I couldn't make it through the first season, it was absolutely awful.

SATC was very much of its time and just doesn't work anymore, and trying to update it was so shallow and unnecessary.

by Anonymousreply 30May 13, 2025 12:17 PM

Sex in the City was an iconic show for the time and I loved it. I even had time for the first film.

After that it was a train wreck . The second film was unbearable and I made it through half an episode of the new series before bailing. The characters are awful and the whole point of the show was seeing young people navigate the jungle of NYC. I do not want to see women in their fifties getting fingered or SJP flouncing around like Edie from Grey Gardens.

The ruined an iconic show.

by Anonymousreply 31May 13, 2025 12:26 PM

Che Diaz was so repulsive in every way, I couldn't stand her,

by Anonymousreply 32May 13, 2025 12:39 PM

How many cents residuals does SJP get every time I hate watch?

by Anonymousreply 33May 13, 2025 10:54 PM

And her story lines were the most ridiculous. Getting a sitcom about being a fat it, Tony Danza playing her dad, weeping over her diet and previously being married to a hot man

by Anonymousreply 34May 13, 2025 10:58 PM

^serious question for industry insiders.

by Anonymousreply 35May 13, 2025 10:58 PM

Watch Mid-Century Modern instead.

by Anonymousreply 36May 13, 2025 11:08 PM

BUT, but that’s with NATHAN LANE!!!!

by Anonymousreply 37May 13, 2025 11:20 PM

And Just Like That would work if all three characters were merely normal rich instead of richer than Croesus. If they were single and in their 60s. And if they had real problems.

Like if Charlotte got her fairy tale ending for only 5 years because Harry died and she had take care of her aging parents in Connecticut while working as an art history lecturer; and now the girls are in high school she’s only just moving back to a city she doesn’t recognise.

If after Miranda quit her job due to BLM, she lost everything in her divorce and blowing her cash on her mid-life crisis with Che, she had to set out her shingle as a solo lawyer while living in a studio apartment on Long Island City.

by Anonymousreply 38May 13, 2025 11:41 PM

That would be a lot more interesting r38

by Anonymousreply 39May 13, 2025 11:49 PM

To be fair, Miranda could not afford a studio, she was in a tiny side room at Naya’s and shacking up with Che in an Ikea-decorated crash pad briefly. They haven’t been as explicit about it as they could be but it’s clear her finances aren’t in good shape. (And it’s pissing me off that leech Steve got their whole house which is probably what Miranda invested most of her money in AND he’s starting a second business. I’d dump his ass too)

by Anonymousreply 40May 14, 2025 1:46 AM

Fuck Miranda. She put Steve through the goddamn wringer when he had a one night stand years ago, and he wasn’t brazenly getting finger banged in Carrie’s kitchen while Carrie pissed the bed by some fat non-binary who probably smells like room temperature yogurt..

And he had to live with that humorless fire crotch for YEARS, probably complaining about every little thing.

The house is compensation .

by Anonymousreply 41May 14, 2025 1:54 AM

I watched the first episode of season 2. It’s awful. Boring.

by Anonymousreply 42May 14, 2025 1:56 AM

These figures are so insufferable now it’s not even funny anymore to hate watch.

by Anonymousreply 43May 14, 2025 2:04 PM

How is Mira da so broke? She may have quit her job but she’s a lawyer. Am I expected to believe that absolutely nobody will hire her?

by Anonymousreply 44May 14, 2025 2:08 PM

R36, MCM is terrible. Cringe from start to finish.

by Anonymousreply 45May 14, 2025 3:19 PM

R44 She was also a partner in her firm, which can be quite lucrative

by Anonymousreply 46May 14, 2025 3:57 PM

MCM needs to lose the laugh track.

by Anonymousreply 47May 14, 2025 4:04 PM

R38 they should hire you to write the scripts as all of that is more appealing than what is going on now with the show.
