US Democracy... Sad Last Days?
There are some on DL who call those who think the US democracy is already over as "fatalists," pointing to how Democrats have been winning here and there and to the next midterm election.
Fair enough... I'm interested in what these DLers think will happen in the (IMO unlikely) case that there will be a fair and peaceful election again. Suppose the Democrats win by a landslide in the midterm election and even take the presidency in 2028. Where do we go from there? How do we even begin to address that the Republicans actively worked towards the absolute dismanteling of democracy and the establishment of a fascist dictatorship? Like, what is a realistic scenario here? Or, is it another four years of Democrats playing nicely by the rules, talking about unity, only for the Republicans to destroy democracy completely in their next attempt? What do you do if a significant part of the political establishment, media, and the population decided that they want a racist, Christian nationalist dictatorship?

Yes, Project 2025 makes it explicit what they want.
Let's assume they can be stopped. (I'm not optimistic about that, personally, but let's indulge the thought for a moment.) What then? How do you deal with the aftermath? How can you make sure the Republicans won't try again the next time, with even more force and maliciousness? (Just like they do currently in comparison to the first Trump presidency.)
My problem is that I don't see a path forward. "Business as usual" won't cut it. And I don't see any contingency plans from the Democrats either. The podcaster from OP's video suggests that the damage to US democracy is already so significant that it would require a new Reconstruction effort, at least (if not more).
I'm interested what you think should be done.

The day a majority of voters chose a Republican majority government headed by a massive crook and traitor willing to do the bidding of any billionaire willing to throw a few millionshis way was shall we say the day we hit pause on democracy. The Trump administration is for all intents and purposes operating as an oligarchy right now. Republicans have been arguing for years that that's what the Founding Fathers intended and allowing women and nonwhites and poors and uncloseted gays to have civil rights upsets the natural order. And a hell of a lot of the American public appears to agree with them.

Americans are willing to accept a lower standard of living to live like Russians. We will all have less money, fewer rights, fewer protections, and be a country that has no influence in the world and will be in fact a pariah. Why anyone would want that boggles my mind, but here we are thanks to an idiotic electorate and the lunatics are driving the bus.
I’m at a loss as to what can be done, but things are going to have to get painful for a lot of clueless people for many to snap out of it, and even then many will blame Democratic “communists” for their problems. I agree that the damage is so significant it won’t be fixed for decades.

How do you know it will be a fascist dictatorship, other than you were told that, and not some other kind of dictatorship?

Because it fulfills the criteria, duh. If you don't see it, you're either uneducated on fascism or deliberately obtuse.
Nice try to derail the conversation, though.
