Why won't Cher help her son? What a bitch.
Cher’s 48-year-old son, Elijah Blue Allman, was recently spotted looking worse for wear following the end of his ugly conservatorship battle with his superstar mom.
Allman was caught on camera smoking a cigarette outside the famous Chateau Marmont hotel on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.
His clothes were in tatters, and he struggled to stand up straight as he stumbled around. Allman, who had a long, nail-polished fingernail on his right hand, was also seen staring off vacantly before shakily wandering back into the famed hotel.

Elijah's wife (maybe ex-wife now) accused Cher of trying to kidnap him a few years back because Cher was reportedly trying to have him put into a conservatorship because of his mental health illness and drug abuse. I presume she was hoping to keep him from blowing all his money on drugs. Elijah pushed back and Cher dropped her pursuit. He can live on the streets like James Brolin's other son Jess.

Of hes staying at that hotel (is he vacationing or living?) either way its not too shoddy. Many people had dead beat parents but they get on with life. Cher may eventually stopped enabling him and is trying tough love.( But im someone successful whos dad was so uninterested, never visited any school i went to and even said he never lijed me; and a mom who was so on the edge, u darent tell her any problems u had, as she made it worse, they certainly wouldnt have helped me if i was a deadbeat).

Cher took this to court. Zombie Elijah and the creepy wife won.
And yes, she did try to force him into treatment aka "kidnapping him".
The money he lives on comes from a trust set up by his father. Not from his mother.
Her best hope is that he ODs and winds up in the hospital. Once he's in it's much easier to keep him there.

Della dear, thank you for sharing your story and I quite agree. I am another who came from a drunk/drugging family and learned how to abuse everything at an early age. I thought I was doing quite well covering it up until everyone I knew complained about my substance abuse. I had several interventions, but was convinced I could handle myself... until I couldn't.
It wasn't until I was so far down that I couldn't find any way to get up and out of it. Then, I understood what the old AA phrase "Let GO and let GOD" really meant. Perhaps, it was just resigning to a higher power than myself to help me. Nevertheless, I found my way out of my mess and now realize I cannot casually drink or drug... I just don't have the constitution for it physically or mentally~ so I must abstain. Once I really understood what that meant I found a way to claw myself into sobriety and lead life in a new way that I enjoy.
Of course, none of what I say helps a using addict, so I can only wait until they receive their enlightenment and offer help when they are ready and ask for it. Sadly, many die before they get that far and Cher must realize by now that Elijah Blue may be one of them.

Not specifically directed to Cher & her situation with her Elijah, but generally directed toward the celebrities who seemingly have it completely pulled tightly together because of large successes that have provided career longevity & public adoration. Ultimately, no matter how generous they may seem on the outside, celebrities are selfish people, and at toxic levels. Even people mentioned in this tread who seem so kind, concerned & altruistic have truly fucked up kids, offsprings who've been the victims of neglectful, delegated, absentee & materially supplemented parenting by purely self-interested parents. Carol Burnett, who I'm sure is a wonderful person professionally, has 2 daughters who fell prey to drug addiction. Cyndi Lauper's son has proven to be a substance addicted delinquent. Spielberg has a daughter who proclaimed her foray into porn as a legit career move. (Argue all you want, but exploiting your own sexual intimacy for strangers realistically is not a sign of healthy mental fortitude.) Ryan O'Neil's kids publicslly suffered the consequences of addition. The list goes on & on. So sure, even ordinary parents have children who experience these same types of challenges, but I wonder how many of the children of celebrities would have been spared such miserable fates without the involvement/influence of self-centered, narcissistic parents.

What's interesting is that a lot of the biggest divas, and the ones who have had some of the worst reputations in the industry seemed to have raised some the most well adjusted celebrity kids.
You never hear of Jason Gould getting into any trouble. Diana's kids are close and have a good relationship with her. Mariah's kids aren't wilding out. Bette's daughter lives a low-key married life. Madonna's kids aren't plastered all over the tabloids. Even Faye Dunaway's son is low key and stays out of trouble.

R40, it's an interesting question for me to answer.
My favorite drug was heroin, which was cheap and very pure when I was stationed in Germany. But I didn't shoot it all the time. I shot it for two or three days, and when I started to get a little sick from the lack of it, I'd take something else -- usually Mandraxx, a Quaalude equivalent, which was sold over the counter in Germany.
I shot speed, took acid, snorted cocaine. I smoked hash in Germany, and I smoked pot every minute of the day I wasn't working when I got back to the U.S. I quit smoking cigarettes because I chain-smoked joints. And you absolutely will feel withdrawal symptoms from pot when you quit after smoking it like that. When I quit, I didn't sleep for three weeks.
And of course, as a last resort when there weren't any [italic]good[/italic] drugs around, I drank. Bourbon. But not for long. I could always find drugs somewhere if I looked hard enough.
I thought I had it all under control (seriously!) because I didn't use the same drug all the time. It took me awhile to realize that I was high from the time I woke up until the time I passed out at night.
A long answer, I know, R40. But yeah, it was serious enough that I got clean/sober at 22 and have been that way ever since. I left AA and all its cult craziness behind after 22 years of meetings, but AA was necessary for me for the first 10 years or so, and I was grateful to have it. Thanks for asking.

From a 2024 article. Cher, should try again.
Cher has failed in her attempt to take control of her adult son's finances through an emergency conservatorship after a court in Los Angeles ruled there was not sufficient evidence of his alleged drug abuse.
A spokesperson for Los Angeles County Superior Court confirmed Monday night that the court had ruled in favor of Elijah Blue Allman, 47, who was resisting the order and argued that he is now drug-free.

Elijah's nearly 50 and has been a fuck up his whole life. There are a lot of younger middle-aged substance abusers in this country right now. And a lot of parents letting their adult kids move back in or raising their grandchildren. I see that in the small Upper MI town I live in. In Elijah's case, his father had little to do with his upbringing and a mother who had to work. Elijah's an addict and has been since his teen years. It's on him, not his famous parents.

I have been sober for 17 years and had deeply abusive narc mom and a workaholic /alcoholic dad. My dad loved me deeply but he had had no idea how to parent a child who had been traumatized by their psycho mother. I drank to deal with the pain. Addiction is not excuse for bad behaviour but it is a reason.
In the end though you *must* take responsibility for your own behaviour. Cher was by her own account - obsessed with work and she sent Elijah to boarding school when he was really young. His dad was not a part of his childhood at all.
She may having caused him pain but she is not responsible for his addiction. The man is almost 50. Give me a break. He looks like he is at the point of end stage addiction. Incredibly sad all around.

That’s like some kind of drag queen-esque show-nail.

Cher and Chaz didn’t talk for like a week after she came out and she never tried to put her in “conversion therapy”. Cher herself said she reacted badly and it was out of embarrassment because everyone knew before she did. Chaz was somewhat estranged from Sonny when he died because he of his support of a gay marriage ban.

[quote]Yet unlike so many other celebrity kids he isnt a drug addicted mess.
Are we still talking about Elijah Blue Altman? Because the article at OP indicates that yes, he very much is a drug-addicted mess.

[quote]r5 What do you expect Cher to do, OP? Her son is a grown man pushing 50.
Still, Cherilyn is jealous of his youth. And so will not lift a finger. Not even a referral to work in Barbra's mall.

Seriously, why can’t Elijah and Justin Brolin work in Barbra’s goddamn mall? The place practically runs itself now, with Jason doing the scheduling and inventory from home most days, and Roslyn handling the bookkeeping. Just let those other two losers empty the trash and polish the wall sconces or something.
It could be “a bridge back” and the responsibility would be good for them.

^^ sorry, JESS Brolin…. not Justin[bold] : (
I wonder if the root of his trauma was seeing his dad try to impersonate Clark Gable in a bad movie.
That could be very disorienting.

He contributes to the economy by shopping.
Why do you care, anyway?

I think he must have other health issues going on as well. Look at his ankles. They are swollen and the skin is tight and shiny. Must be some kind of fluid retention.

I have fantasies that Jason and Roslyn meet for secret lunches once a month, and charge it all to his “for emergencies” card. Then they rent roller skates or go to an amusement park, laughing about crazy Babs.

BTW, Gregg Allman went to rehab 11 times before finally giving up drinking at around 50. And had 20 sober years out of his chaotic life. Maybe there's hope for Elijah, but probably not...
