Someone posted this on Twitter yesterday.

[quote]In 1973, a lady in the audience for Carol Burnett thinks Maude (Bea Arthur) is in the crowd.

Thank you OP! I remember this. SO COOL!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 2May 11, 2025 12:39 AM

I wonder if Teresa Renturia is still living?

by Anonymousreply 3May 11, 2025 1:10 AM

Part of me thinks this was planned, no matter what they say. This woman was way too prepared to entertain.

Her name was Terry McCann and she lived to be 100.

Now that’s an amazing broad!

Classic Carol Burnett moment..

I’ll raise a toast to her with a Strawberry Daq-A-Rita Bucket at Applebee’s tonight.

by Anonymousreply 6May 11, 2025 1:46 AM

She certainly had a fabulous voice.

by Anonymousreply 7May 11, 2025 1:50 AM

Aw, today’s her birthday.

by Anonymousreply 8May 11, 2025 1:59 AM

What's the context for this? Was the frumpy lady who asked the question a plant?

by Anonymousreply 9May 11, 2025 2:19 AM

sweetie

by Anonymousreply 10May 11, 2025 3:10 AM

She did indeed look like Bea during that television era. 😍

by Anonymousreply 11May 11, 2025 3:25 AM

Terry would definitely be a DLer.

by Anonymousreply 12May 11, 2025 3:46 AM

I wouldn't leave your dressing room door unlocked, OP...

I think in some ways the Q&As from the Burnett show hold up better than some of the sketches. They are simply Carol’s funny interactions with her audience and her obvious joy in being with them. Who else would let someone from the audience come onstage and do a musical number before her own show of comedy and music was about to begin? I laughed when I saw this in the 1970s, and I still laugh every time I watch this clip.

But, believing it was spontaneous and not a plant in the audience is what makes it fun.

I love her snazzy sailor outfit! So glam.

I remember a DLer posting this 5-7 years ago, at least. Someone else posted about that woman's grandchild who gave more details about the Maude clone, like she actually used to entertain locally, and was just a great ole broad.

Thanks for bringing it back for us, OP!

R15 It may have been a plant by the producer and/or director, but Carol’s laughter seemed spontaneous l, and her joining Terry’s song and then “lousing up Terry’s finish” suggests the duet wasn’t pre-rehearsed.

"You wanna sing too?" Carol is wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 19May 11, 2025 10:28 PM

She belongs in the broad thread.

by Anonymousreply 20May 12, 2025 1:33 AM

That was brilliant. Carol Burnett looks like she was great fun and a nice person. Was she huge in the US?
