I stopped eating crackers

And I've already lost two pounds!

by Anonymousreply 46May 10, 2025 11:54 PM

Crackers, pretzels and popcorn are fatty foods. Also really bad for blood sugar.

by Anonymousreply 1May 9, 2025 10:07 PM

Hummus and vegetables to dip are a great alternative.

by Anonymousreply 2May 9, 2025 10:15 PM

People tend to eat too many crackers, those carbs add up. I generally do not eat much carbs. But I normally have two organic whole grain crackers with my coffee for breakfast.

by Anonymousreply 3May 9, 2025 10:35 PM

Bagel chips forever!!!

I have two miniature Reeses instead.

by Anonymousreply 6May 9, 2025 10:54 PM

2lbs down, 98 to go!

by Anonymousreply 7May 9, 2025 10:56 PM

Popcorn is a low glycemic index food, and any fat would come from butter, which is optional. It’s also high in fiber.

Popcorn: it’s what’s for dinner.

by Anonymousreply 10May 9, 2025 11:10 PM

What type and how many did you eat?

by Anonymousreply 11May 9, 2025 11:12 PM

R10 Can’t have Chicago Mix, though, it’s too woke.

by Anonymousreply 12May 9, 2025 11:15 PM

That is correct, the good orange Trumpian popcorn must be strictly segregated from the sticky brown kernels.

by Anonymousreply 13May 9, 2025 11:16 PM

Animal Crackers?

by Anonymousreply 14May 9, 2025 11:34 PM

In my soup?

by Anonymousreply 15May 9, 2025 11:35 PM

I could actually go for some animal crackers right now.

by Anonymousreply 16May 9, 2025 11:36 PM

I WILL NEVER give up my upcountry Georgia crackers!

by Anonymousreply 17May 9, 2025 11:40 PM

[quote] What type and how many did you eat?

Mainly, I ate a handful mini organic cheese filled crackers around 10 every morning. I gave all my snacks away so I wouldn't be tempted. Now I eat two miniature Reeses, and that's enough to last me to lunch.

by Anonymousreply 18May 10, 2025 1:00 AM

The cheese filled crackers sound good. Does Trader Joe’s have those?

by Anonymousreply 19May 10, 2025 2:11 AM

Used to love those Chicken in a Biscuit but so unhealthy and way too salty.

by Anonymousreply 20May 10, 2025 2:14 AM

I loooove Trader Joe's water crackers with a slice of delicious cheese and could happily make a meal out of 4 or 5 crackers with assorted cheese slices.

And for that reason, I haven't had any crackers in the house for several months now.

I've also lost 45 lbs since the beginning of the year. However, crackers and cheese were probably the least of my issues and the bottles of wine I had nightly were the worst of them.

by Anonymousreply 21May 10, 2025 2:15 AM

Wait-wait! You lost 45 pounds or 4-5 pounds since January just by giving up wine?

by Anonymousreply 22May 10, 2025 2:23 AM

r21, Bottles? How many bottles?

by Anonymousreply 23May 10, 2025 2:26 AM

Well you will always bee a cracker OP.

by Anonymousreply 24May 10, 2025 2:26 AM

We won't miss y'all bitch.

[quote]Hummus and vegetables to dip are a great alternative.

Ugh. It might be a great alternative for health reasons but not flavor.

by Anonymousreply 26May 10, 2025 3:34 AM

Hummus is delicious, move beyond baby taste.

by Anonymousreply 27May 10, 2025 3:37 AM

r22 - I lost 45 lbs by giving up wine, walking a few miles daily, hiking 1 - 2 times a week and also eating only once or twice a day, most often before 7pm and nothing after that. Full disclosure: compounded semaglutide has helped with both weight loss as well as quelling alcohol cravings. I'm not ashamed to admit that and I'm glad that I chose to try/use it. It's helped me immensely, with very little in the way of side effects.

r23 - two 750 ml bottles a night

by Anonymousreply 28May 10, 2025 3:37 AM

r28, good for you! impressive

by Anonymousreply 29May 10, 2025 3:41 AM

[quote]Popcorn is a low glycemic index food

Unforch, it's not. Corn has a lot of natural sugar.

^ that's me! How did you find me?

by Anonymousreply 32May 10, 2025 12:31 PM

I’m addicted to cheese and crackers as my just home from work snack. From time to time the supermarket has Carr’s water crackers half price and I stock up. I’d have a hard time giving them up, but I don’t have a weight problem or give a shit about health. It’s one of life’s few pleasures.

by Anonymousreply 33May 10, 2025 12:45 PM

I gave up crackers, most types of cheese, and a lot of other saturated fat-filled foods in a failed attempt at naturally lowering my cholesterol. It didn't work and I'm on statins now. As my internist says, you can't beat your genes. I did however discover crispbread, which I really like. Wasa sourdough flavor is my favorite.

by Anonymousreply 34May 10, 2025 1:04 PM

R34- I’m so sorry to hear this. I dread those cholesterol tests.

by Anonymousreply 35May 10, 2025 2:22 PM

R28 Alcohol drinks are basically empty calories. Wines does have some health benefits such as containing the compound resveratrol and being an antioxidant, but the calories have no nutritional benefit.

by Anonymousreply 36May 10, 2025 4:28 PM

OK, popcorn is not a high GI food? It’s not that bad.

by Anonymousreply 37May 10, 2025 5:00 PM

Well it's worse than potato chips, French fries or Coke and 7-UP.

Not exactly a health food.

by Anonymousreply 38May 10, 2025 9:13 PM

The only cracker I wanna eat is Lee Pace.

by Anonymousreply 39May 10, 2025 9:37 PM

Datalounge discussions of nutrition always sound like debates between Giuliana Rancic and Lens Dunham.

There's never any middle room. It's always one extreme or the other.

by Anonymousreply 40May 10, 2025 9:42 PM

Here's an article I read today. I found myself wondering whether people's values influence these things. I.e., some people may value the longest possible life as the best possible life; others may opt for pleasure or freedom to eat what they want -- even if that means a shorter lifespan.

My only cheat foods are small pieces of cheese with crackers and 3-5 dark chocolate almonds. Oh and PB&Jam on a Wasa crisp bread.

That's it - I can't not have my crackers with a little cheese. 4-5 crackers and 1 slice of cheese. Sorry - but that's staying.

Anybody have any other snack ideas? I do seaweed crisps - but it's not exactly satisfying.

by Anonymousreply 42May 10, 2025 9:54 PM

^ nuts, e.g., pistachios, almonds, walnuts, etc

by Anonymousreply 43May 10, 2025 10:01 PM

R43 - I do eat some pistachios, pepitos, dried cranberries and walnuts in small baggies (Trader Joe has snack sized bags) - but the calories add up. I suppose that's better than crackers.

How many crackers are you all eating? 5 a day? 10? 20?

by Anonymousreply 44May 10, 2025 10:12 PM

Chicken in a Biscuit is so good. But so fatty and salty. You're almost guaranteed a heart attack from eating them. I see them at the grocery store all the time and get tempted to buy a box, but ... no.

by Anonymousreply 45May 10, 2025 11:33 PM

r36 I know this. I wasn't drinking it for health benefits...I was drinking because I'm an alcoholic.

Now I'm not drinking.
