Liam Payne, Who Died Without a Will, Left $32 Million Estate

Liam Payne died without a will, but Cheryl Tweedy, his former partner and the mother of his son, Bear, has been named one of the administrators of his sizable estate.

According to U.K. records obtained by Rolling Stone, the gross value of Payne’s estate is £28,594,888 (about $38 million), while the net value — after debts and expenses are covered — amounts to £24,279,728 (or about $32 million). Along with Tweedy, the music industry lawyer Richard Mark Bray was named as one of the administrators of the former One Direction member’s estate.

Because Payne died without a will, Tweedy and Bray will be responsible for Payne’s money, property, and possessions, much of which could be put into a trust for Bear. Laws in England and Wales stipulate that a person’s spouse, and then their children, have first claim to the estate if there is no will.

While I am certain he did not expect to die so young, anybody that acquires any significant wealth should have a will, even at that young age.

Anyone who has a (minor) child, too. I'm surprised Cheryl didn't have something drawn up nine years ago, when she was pregnant.

But he wasn't married, right?

So can his parents and sisters have any claim to estate at all?

They should. His parents seem like decent people.

I'm pretty sure that Liam would have wanted that.

I cannot get over the number of celebrities that have died without a will, like Prince, Aretha Franklin, and now this guy. It seems like that would be one of the first things anyone would do when they come into big money. Do these people have any type of financial advisors, or are they just putting their millions into a regular savings account?
