Have you been in a Waymo, yet?

How was it?

by Anonymousreply 20May 11, 2025 2:01 AM

Just fine. I took it for a 1.5 mi trip downtown. It took the car awhile to decide where to stop to pick me up. It kept driving a few feet, changing directions, then driving another few feet. The interior of the car was lovely, a Jaguar I believe. There were video screens providing an explanation of how safe it all is, and reminding me to fasten my seat belt. The ride was priced slightly lower than Uber and Lyft by a couple dollars.

r1 That's unusual. Were you standing still while this was taking place, or was the car comically trying to catch up to you because you kept moving?

In Los Angeles everywhere but haven't tried. I've seen a couple on the freeway but not sure if they have full access. The freeway is a little iffy - especially, in Los Angeles.

Haven't ridden in one, but last night, I was surrounded by three Waymos at an intersection in a somewhat residential area.

Waymo to the right, Waymo to the left and Waymo behind me.

It was such an LA moment.

A few times. It was fine. I felt it drove very safely. I don't know if I would ask for one on the highway (and the place I took it - Phoenix, specifically will not take highways - it only will take surface streets).

I want to take one, but they seem to go so damn slow.

by Anonymousreply 6May 9, 2025 1:21 AM

San Francisco is lousy with them. All you see are Waymos and Teslas.

by Anonymousreply 7May 9, 2025 2:29 AM

In la here. They’re kinda dirty. The UCLA and usc subreddits compete for most waymo sex stories. Kinda gross.

R4 Do you live in weho near Pointsettia Park? I think that's where they congregate.

Before I knew what Waymos were, I was walking my dog late one night on the West end of Pointsettia Park. I had this weird feeling I was being stalked. I turned around and saw behind me, slowly moving then parking...then another one. It was strange so I got closer to peer in, and saw no driver! I did a google search and that's how I found out.

But it was really freaky! I thought I was in an episode of Black Mirror.

I always imagine a Waymo in flyoverstan. You just hop in and it takes you to camping.

There were three lined up at the Erewhon at The Grove yesterday. I keep forgetting about them, but I want to try one soon.

“Milk $20… Waymo $15…. The ability to live prosperously in a late-stage capitalistic society… PRICELESS!”

by Anonymousreply 12May 9, 2025 8:23 PM

If I keep eating and stop my levothroxine I Waymo.

by Anonymousreply 13May 9, 2025 8:48 PM

I released my seatbelt before the waymo stopped and it just stopped. Completely shut down and I had to walk a few houses down from my house

by Anonymousreply 14May 9, 2025 8:51 PM

Aren’t they more expensive than Ubers and Lyfts?

by Anonymousreply 15May 11, 2025 12:15 AM

I wouldn’t ride in one of those death traps for free. They are creepy and dangerous.

by Anonymousreply 16May 11, 2025 1:22 AM

There's a sex fetish for autonomous vehicles? Now it makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 17May 11, 2025 1:42 AM

Is anyone missing a comma? The OP seems to have appropriated an unnecessary one.

by Anonymousreply 18May 11, 2025 1:46 AM

I heard they have them in Phoenix, since the bathroom is at least 3 miles away.

by Anonymousreply 19May 11, 2025 1:53 AM

I have ridden them in SF and like it. The only downside is that it sometimes wants to pick you up far away from where you are standing. But it felt safe and the cars are clean.
