Actually he spent a LOT of time in Peru. It’s interesting that Latin America looms so large in the church hierarchy. I suspected they might choose an African, but African Catholics tend to be super conservative.

I think I remember meeting him at the Steamworks on Halstead Street and chit chatting a bit at the Lucky Horseshoe! Good times.

He's a Peruvian citizen who has lived almost all his adult life outside USA. Doesn't seem to embrace his roots.

Maybe that helped his cause. He doesn’t seem an “American”

I was really hoping for a Pope Tyler or a Pope Jayden or a Pope Jackson or a Pope Noah.

I don't care about any pope but I suppose it's cool that he's an American.
