Now they need to stock those ridiculous hotdogs at the Vatican kitchen.
Actually he spent a LOT of time in Peru. It’s interesting that Latin America looms so large in the church hierarchy. I suspected they might choose an African, but African Catholics tend to be super conservative.

Please don't let JD Vance anywhere near him!

I think I remember meeting him at the Steamworks on Halstead Street and chit chatting a bit at the Lucky Horseshoe! Good times.

He's a Peruvian citizen who has lived almost all his adult life outside USA. Doesn't seem to embrace his roots.

Maybe that helped his cause. He doesn’t seem an “American”

He looks like a nice guy. Has a kind face. And is relatively young compared to the last couple of popes.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 8, 2025 6:23 PM |
He’s a good looking 69 years.

I was really hoping for a Pope Tyler or a Pope Jayden or a Pope Jackson or a Pope Noah.

Not considered progressive on LGBTQ+ rights: Prevost has previously expressed views that are not in line with the progressive stance on LGBTQ+ rights.
More conservative on LGBTQ+ issues: He has been described as having a more conservative position on LGBTQ+ matters compared to Francis.
Concerns about "sympathy for beliefs and practices at odds with the gospel": In 2012, Prevost expressed concerns about media and culture fostering sympathy for beliefs and practices that are not in accordance with the gospel, including the "homosexual lifestyle" and alternative family structures.
Not fully supportive of blessings for same-sex couples: Prevost has opposed Francis's 2023 ruling allowing blessings for same-sex couples.

Need for greater conversations: In October 2024, Prevost called for more conversations among episcopal conferences to discuss blessings and align them with cultural differences, recognizing that some countries still criminalize homosexuality.

I don't care about any pope but I suppose it's cool that he's an American.

Not a fan of JD:
[quote]On Feb. 3, Pope Leo ― then Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost ― shared an opinion piece, “JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.” The article itself, published in the National Catholic Reporter, argues against Vance’s claim of a rigid “biblical” hierarchy that dictates how Christians should prioritize who to love.
[quote]Another post in Pope Leo’s feed includes criticism of President Donald Trump’s Oval Office meeting with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, where they laughed at the circumstances of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who Trump mistakenly sent to a prison there. Leo retweeted the post, which included the quote: “Do you not see the suffering? Is your conscience not disturbed? How can you stay quiet?”

Pope Bob? Pope Bobby? That’s, it! He should be called Pope Leo Bobby. I wonder if he’s a white Sox fan.

He likes to dance on tabletops with a rose between his teeth. He will be a great Pope.

I think it would be more interesting if the new pope were British. English. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the pants!
