Make room on the shelf for those Oscars - Joan Collins Set To Play The Aging Walls Simpson
Isabella Rossellini has joined the cast of Mike Newell’s The Bitter End (working title), opposite Joan Collins as Wallis Simpson.
Production on the film is set to begin in May 2025 in the UK, for John Gore Studios.
John Gore, Richard Holmes and Francis Hopkinson will produce the film, with executive producers Hilary Strong, Michael Foster and Percy Gibson. Embankment Films handles worldwide sales.
Written by novelist Louise Fennell, the film will depict the final years of Simpson, the American divorcee who became duchess of Windsor after marrying King Edward VIII.
Rossellini will play Suzanne Blum, a French lawyer who exerted coercive control over Simpson as her obsessed confidante.
“Louise Fennell’s script allows us to delve into the complex and devastating relationship between these two iconic women, the profound impact they had on one another and their lasting mark on history,” said Rossellini.
Rossellini is nominated for best supporting actress at this weekend’s Oscars for her role in Edward Berger’s papal drama Conclave, having previously been nominated at numerous ceremonies across awards season including the Baftas and Golden Globes.

Joan Collins isn't winning any Oscars lol. She never even won an Emmy and was only nominated once in her whole career. She does, however, have a Golden Globe that I'm sure she paid good money for, as well as two (TWO!) Soap Opera Digest awards, and a Cable Ace award that I'm sure is highly prized as a collector's item/door stopper these days/s.
This is weird casting. Simpson was famously American, the Meghan Markle of her era, so casting someone so British-identified is strange, especially a washed up TV actress.

OP, only the Duchess's closest friends used her nickname "WALLS." Most thought it was related to her given name but it actually refers to the strong vaginal grip she was noted to possess. She was also called the Duchess of Kegels but only behind her back.

They better wrap up production pretty quickly given Dame Joan Collins' age. At nearly 92 years old, she must be pretty difficult to insure.

It seems like it'll be a pretty grim movie. Joan will be the Duchess, in bed, drooling over herself, lost to Alzheimer's and Isabella will be stealing her shit.

Face it, she had some great shit to steal.

I imagine they'll shoot the close up scenes with Joan first and pretty quickly. They'll keep her wig on set and use AI should the worst happen before the filming is complete.

To R5-You got that fucking right.

Her husband, Percy, is one of the producer, so her casting is no surprise. It's probably her vanity project.

It'll be terrible but I'll watch the shit out of it.

I was molested by Oscar De La Hoya. While he was wearing a pair of my L'eggs. Ugh.

Streisand was the original choice to star, produce, and direct. The opening shot was to be Streisand laying upright in bed, knowing the end is near. She slowly picks up a hand mirror, pensively looks at her reflection, and quietly whispers, "Hello Gorgeous!" James Brolin talked her out of it.
Next up was Liza. She, too, was lying in bed upright, when she was directed to slowly pick up the hand mirror and pensively stare at her reflection. However, Liza dropped the mirror, did her 'jazz hands' and giggled, " I feel terrific!' Michael Feinstein talked her out of it, before she was fired.
Joan Collins was third choice, and no one talked her out of it. Not even Linda Evans.

Isabella will own the entire film. Think Bette Davis in “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.” I’m surprised Joan would dare agree in casting her.

She didn’t marry King Edward VIII; she married the Duke of Windsor.

Same thing was said about Monique. And people laughed over the possibility of Demi Moore winning an oscar.
Nothing is impossible. And Collins had previously gotten oscar buzz for A Midwinters Tale.

Caroline Blackwood was herself a sacred monster/icon who should be known to all Dataloungers. And her book on WS is compulsive reading.

Caroline Blackwood's own life would make for an interesting movie/show. And, she was a great writer.
