I friend of mine was seeing periodic blood in his urine. He was told for three years by his doctor that there was a small cyst on his kidney and that it was just a benign growth. After year 4 after he changed urologists, who took a scan and told him it might be a malignant growth and they would need to operate to see for sure. It turned out he had stage 4 kidney cancer. They removed the kidney, and started him on immunotherapy treatments, and hoped it had not metastasized. A few months later the cancer had spread to his liver and spine. He died a few months later. Moral of the story is if you have symptoms that persist, get a second opinion.

This is so sad. My sons friend recently had his kidney removed. He had a tumor on it and they were worried that it would spread to other areas of his body. He's just 33 years old. I'm really sorry to hear this.

Early detection is the best approach. Most who have kidney removed due to cancer live a normal healthy life.
