Young Men in Suits with Tennis Shoes

This will probably sound so old- fashioned that you will think I'm 100. My niece went to her prom with her boyfriend who wore a new suit, a tie, and Air Jordan's. When I went to my prom, with Laura Ingalls, I wore a dress shoes and dress socks. The reason: it showed that for certain events I dressed one way, and that dress shoes denoted becoming a grownup. Now I could care less if they wear those shoes all day everyday. We are teaching our boys to be too relaxed, while the girls have to get dressed like it's their wedding. It makes the girl look like a lady. Tennis shoes say I don't what to be grownup, and I look cool- all childish excuses.

OP, I agree. But high schoolers going to the formal dance or a prom are young, carefree, and like to set their own style to set themselves apart. Let them have their fun.

A fossil like Murdoch can be excused- older men with feet problems-understandable.

It's too hard to dance in tennis shoes.

I'm with R7, I never heard the term tennis shoes until I was in my thirties. Sounds incredibly weird to me.

Girls prom dresses look so cheap and tacky now.

R9 “Stripper convention?” “No, it’s prom!”

I'm a pretty old guy myself, but the entire group of guys in my friend circle wore Chuck Taylors to prom with our rented tuxes. Some of our (female) dates did as well.

Of course, we only stayed for an hour so we could hang out in the Hardee's parking lot and drink Everclear and juice.

Good times.

R11. Did you deflower someone that evening?
