Comcast is Versant

The Comcast cable network spin off, which will own USA, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel, is to be called Versant. As in "conversant" they claim.

[quote]Meetings began in late December, according to people familiar with the process. After a few weeks, the company had more than 1,000 potential names. Employees were told to focus on names that drew upon New York, cable TV or passing references to 30 Rockefeller Center, NBCUniversal’s headquarters, said the people.

[quote]The names were then filtered for legal and trademark infringement issues and other potential problems, such as a word’s definition in various languages. Comcast also hired three marketing agencies to help generate names and cull the list.

[quote]Lawyers passed through just 43 of the initial names, Lazarus said. That list was shortened to about a dozen finalists, which were then each presented to the deciding committee.

And they ended up with...Versant.

They should have made their own "skinny" bundle of their brands.

Since it's the parent of SYFY, Oxygen, Golf Channel, E!, CNBC, USA, & MSNBC they should have just gone with SOG E CUM.

I bet VERizon is thrilled.

Comcast by any other name ... is still SHIT!

CANCEL and AVOID!

"The rest of Comcast’s NBCUniversal portfolio, including the broadcast network, Peacock streaming service, Universal Studios, the theme parks and Bravo, will remain with Comcast."

So Comcast is skimming off the cream for itself, and by putting lipstick on a pig, hopes to make another fortune selling off its money losing dogs to some unwitting sap.

Versant is an insatiable bottom.

by Anonymousreply 6May 7, 2025 4:29 PM

They might have been more profitable if they were not so damn tight with them.

by Anonymousreply 7May 7, 2025 5:12 PM

They really should have gone with Kabletown.

by Anonymousreply 8May 7, 2025 6:19 PM

They're going to regret spending so much time and money on a new name since it's bound to crash and burn soon. Those properties are worthless.

by Anonymousreply 9May 7, 2025 7:33 PM

They should have been available on Peacock.

This is like the mall developers buying up the obsolete retail stores stuck in the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 11May 7, 2025 8:59 PM

r10 Comcast is keeping Bravo because it's stuff is the only thing that does well on Peacock

by Anonymousreply 12May 7, 2025 9:18 PM

What’s next, is the grocery store going to buy Hostess when the olds die off and millennials don’t want that crap?
