Shadier ways to uncover online stalkers?
A friend from law school has a daughter who’s an influencer. I know, I can feel the eye rolls, but she’s great. She’s beautiful and charming and gets a lot of product endorsements. She’s also very funny about Trump but she has a separate, nonbranded meme account on which she ridicules him.
But she’s also picked up a stalker who’s highly toxic and possibly even dangerous. He posts horrible comments on her social and, when she blocks him, he is instantly back with a new account. He actually hijacked her IG once and it took her almost a week to get it back. She tells her mom he’s constantly trying to hijack, get her home address, etc.
He’s in the UK but she’s in the USA. Neither her mom nor I do this sort of law. My thought is going through strictly legal above-board means, she’ll never get anywhere. I assume he uses a vpn and, to get information on him, she’d need to subpoena the ISP and/or the vpn provider and on top of all that, he’s in a different country. Vast expense with very little chance of results.
Anyone had any experience with this? Are there more “fight fire with fire” methods of dealing with it? I know basically nothing about this stuff except what I’ve seen on documentaries.
My suspicion is, if he gets uncovered, he would instantly have an anxiety attack and back away. Are there shadier ways to do that?

Don't provoke him or he'll cross the ocean and fuck her up for real.

I can lend her the shitbra, but it probably won't do much good. Have you tried Reddit?

Unless the comments are threatening, what can be done? If her IG account was hijacked, that's between her and Instagram.

It's actually between her and her shit for brain for choosing a weak password.

I believe there are laws in the UK about online harassment. Look into that.
Also, look to see what handles he has. A lot of times people use the same name across other social media - and you can find their blogs and other content - and easier identify who they are.
Reporting this guy to Meta in the US will do fucking nothing. But reporting him or reaching out to UK authorities may get some traction. Here's a link. It's not a hate-crime, but there are still gender-based sections and threats that should be taken seriously.
How does she know he's in the UK? (FYI - people can also spoof their IP address - so he may be anywhere).

Maybe r7. When it’s someone you know and like, it’s not quite as philosophical as that though.

I mean, what would your plan be even if you were somehow able to discover his real identity (legal or otherwise)?

Yes, I have. My advice is to avoid responding to or acknowledging him in any way (stalkers feed on attention so try to starve him) and document everything.
