LaJolla - is there a gay scene?
I’m going to LaJolla in June for my brother’s wedding. He and his fiancé live there - she is from Bakersfield and she was NOT having her wedding there.
I’m older-53- so not really interested in clubs but are there any nice, gay friendly bars to just have a drink? I’ll need a break from family.
I’m trying to convince my brother to incorporate Dr. Seuss into the wedding somehow (maybe something as simple as a tabletop figure) as my brother grew up in Springfield, MA and now lives in LaJolla, exactly the same as Seuss did.

Just go into San Diego. I'm there often for work. I really like the bathhouse there.

It is two words, not one: La Jolla.

La Jolla is not a city -- it's just a neighborhood in San Diego.

R8 True but a very large one. And is used as its own mailing address in some areas.

Lots of rich people live there; or at least they did, when I was growing up ('79 - '91).
It was akin to Bel Air in Los Angeles. Or one of the super rich neighborhoods.

This is like asking if there is a gay scene in Beverly Hills.
I have FF’d the OP for being a moron.

I would say La Jolla is more similar to Beverly Hills Post Office than Bel Air, just with a very small downtown type area.

I didn't say Bev Hills because (when I was in San Diego County) there wasn't that big of a shopping scene there (that I can recall) and it was more very expensive homes than anything (with some very high end hotels).
Fun fact, though: I worked at a bakery in the late 80s there and one workday, Burt Reynolds and Loni Anderson pulled up in a limo. He got out with one of those HUGE cell phones and was talking on it. Thought he was going to come over to the window and order something, but he finished his conversation, got back in the car and drove on.

It's a nice place to stay but deadly dull in terms of gay action.
La Jolla is filled with fiftysomething Republican men and their third wives.
You might find a hot Grindr/Sniffies hookup from one of those Republican men, or get invited down to one of the surfer houses near Windansea or Bird Rock and get some surfer loads sprayed in you or on you. But that's all luck of the draw.
There's a concentrated gay scene in Hillcrest but it's also homeless/strung out druggie central.
La Jolla isn't actively antigay or anything (a few MAGA/Trumper types here and there) but it's just overwhelmingly hetero.

My computer's language translator says that La Jolla means "The Fuck" in Spanish.
Oh really!

AI/Google: The name "La Jolla" is often derived from the Spanish phrase "La Joya," which translates to "The Jewel" in English. However, the origin of "La Jolla" is also linked to the Kumeyaay language, where it meant "place of the cave."

No. There are a number of friendly gay bars in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego. Go there for a drink. It's a bit of a drive from La Jolla but worth it.
