I can't think of anyone more beautiful than Sophia Loren. She could almost turn me straight. Other top contenders: Lucille Ball, Jane Russell, Joan Crawford and Carly Simon.
Who's The Most Beautiful Woman You've Ever Seen?
by Anonymous | reply 149 | May 4, 2025 4:35 AM |
I think Ava Gardner in her prime was the most beautiful, sexy woman Hollywood ever turned out.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 2, 2025 6:54 PM |
Victoria Principal on Dallas was my ideal of a beautiful woman when I was growing up.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 2, 2025 6:56 PM |
Ava Gardner is another one that could change my type.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 2, 2025 7:02 PM |
Audrey Hepburn

Michelle Pfeiffer

Shirley Hemphill.

Sharon Stone.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 2, 2025 7:35 PM |
Carly Simon?!?!?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 2, 2025 7:45 PM |
In person - the late Phyllis George (former Miss America). Stunning.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 2, 2025 7:50 PM |
You certainly have... eclectic taste, OP. Carly Simon???
Natalie Wood, Elizabeth Montgomery, Catherine Deneuve. I thought Sherilyn Fenn was gorgeous in her prime, but she's sadly lost her looks and her mind.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 2, 2025 7:55 PM |
"In real life" should be the qualifier on this.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 2, 2025 7:56 PM |
Madonna
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 2, 2025 7:58 PM |
OP is imitating the old joke about two gay guys walking down the street. They see Sophia Loren.
One says to the other, wistfully, "You know, sometimes I wish I was a lesbian."
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 2, 2025 7:59 PM |
OP's taste is in the tongue sandwich she had for lunch.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 2, 2025 7:59 PM |
"In real life" -- Whitney Houston. I met her for an instant in an airport, she bummed a cigarette. She was wearing a baseball cap and no makeup but DAMN it was her and she was gorgeous.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 2, 2025 8:04 PM |
If we're talking film ... Jane Greer in Out of the Past is near the top of my list.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 2, 2025 8:07 PM |
My mama.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 2, 2025 8:12 PM |
OP Carly Simon is not an ugly woman but if you travelled up to New England you would see many horse-faced, awkward women. But if you ar looking for beauty singers I would try these three: Connie Smith, Pat Benatar, Lena Horne- all beautiful singers.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 2, 2025 8:15 PM |
I thought we had already agreed that Elizabeth Taylor was the best.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 2, 2025 8:18 PM |
Isabelle Adjani in person looked like she stepped out of a painting; so beautiful in motion, she almost didn’t look real.

by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 2, 2025 8:20 PM |
Princess Margaret was strikingly beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 2, 2025 8:21 PM |
I first met Elizabeth Taylor on the night she made her one and only appearance on The Tonight Show.
It was the only time I was ever starstruck. She was stunning.

Catherine Deneuve

Sharon Stone
Jaclyn Smith
Christie Brinkley
Paulina Porizkova
Elizabeth Taylor had pretty eyes but was short with stumpy legs and overweight most of her life…hard pass
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 2, 2025 9:29 PM |
I once had a friend who hung out with Lois Chiles, who, at the time, was best friends with Michelle Pfeiffer. On the screen Michelle was amazing, but in person, Lois was so much more beautiful. She was in fact the most beautiful human I had ever seen, but so much of it came from this kid of glow she had, this almost hypnotic aura that made Michelle, sitting next to her, look like a damp dishrag (in person, Michelle, with her bad skin and weird hair, really isn't much to look at. However, the camera absolutely adores her).
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 2, 2025 9:34 PM |
Monica Bellucci. For all time.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 2, 2025 9:38 PM |
Elizabeth Taylor
Isabella Rossellini
Catherine Deneuve
I also have a special place in my heart for Winona Ryder.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 2, 2025 9:49 PM |
R30, you need glasses. Michelle Pfeiffer looks like Michael Jackson with those too far apart eyes, fake looking nose, wide mouth, square face, huge cheekbones, pursed lips, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 2, 2025 9:50 PM |
Sharon Tate.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 2, 2025 9:56 PM |
Love Lois Chiles. She wasn’t the greatest actress but had so much presence like in “The Great Gatsby”.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 2, 2025 9:59 PM |
Didn't Lois Chiles think she should play Daisy and was very bitter? And wasn't Ali first choice until she dumped Robert for Steve?

It's a toss up between Ava Gardner and Hedy Lamarr.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 3, 2025 1:03 AM |
In person. you will be surprised. I was surprised. It is Christie Brinkley in the late 1980s at a gala at the New York Public Library. Not a refined beauty. But 1000 watt spectacular radiance. and I have seen many legendary beauties, live, before my eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 3, 2025 1:03 AM |
I mean. I am cosmopolitan and a snob. So i was stunned. Its Christie Brinkley, the most gorgeous woman!? Well, I'll be damned. I also shared cig breaks with Jackie over several times and she was striking but not 1000 watt beauty flash. Jane Fonda I much prettier in person than on screen, in my. opinion. I worked several season photographing the fashion shows in Paris and New York. early 1990s. All the supermodels were total glamazons. Naomi was the most spectacular. the layer below the supermodels had more exotic beauties.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 3, 2025 1:13 AM |
these three kind of capture it. I always thought of her as a flashy blond, a bit manic, and she is, and I thought she must be tacky, and she is, and she's not a demure beauty or a sophisticated beauty, but in person it was just radiance.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 3, 2025 1:17 AM |
Taylor Dayne could have been a supermodel
Marlo Thomas
Diana Ross
Cybill Shepherd
Olivia Newton John
Beyonce Knowles
Diahann Carroll
Linda Ronstadt

Jennifer Connelly in her prime
Amal Clooney right now
Elena Anaya in her prime -- lesbian IRL, she was one who chose her ass over her face, and now looks very old
Audrey Hepburn, young, although her great bone structure saved her look as she aged
Diana Rigg in the Avengers
I could go on and on... I do love my dark-haired dark-eyed women!
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 3, 2025 1:23 AM |
Keanu Reeves. Oh, wait, you asked for a woman.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 3, 2025 1:30 AM |
Marlo? Lucy? Omg.
Anyway… absolutely agree about Ava Gardner. But my vote is for Gene Tierney.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 3, 2025 1:32 AM |
Nicole Kidman is the most youthful and beautiful performer the silver screen has ever seen.
Nicole has turned back the clock and is even younger than her first appearance on film. She still menstruates and continues to be carded at restaurants when ordering a glass of wine.
She’s unbelievable!
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 3, 2025 1:33 AM |
Joan Chen, at about the time of "The Last Emperor."
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 3, 2025 1:34 AM |
If we're going to nominate Lucille Ball and Marlo Thomas, what about other great sitcom beauties?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 3, 2025 1:36 AM |
R53 / R55 stole my thunder. Gene Tierney was extraordinarily beautiful but I nearby nominate the late, great Veronica Lake as Ms. Tierney's runner up.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 3, 2025 1:40 AM |
Marlo in her prime was a gorgeous, intellectual woman. A knockout.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 3, 2025 1:40 AM |

Out of all the women considered beautiful, Rihanna is the only one whom I’ve seen in person. Absolutely regal. Statuesque and just pretty as fuck. She looked me dead in my eyes too.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 3, 2025 1:44 AM |
Mid-1960s Sofia Loren was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen on screen. Early Elizabeth Taylor is up there too. But nothing compares to Sofia.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 3, 2025 1:46 AM |
Actually I forgot I saw Anne Hathaway in person too but Rihanna still takes the cake.
I’ve also seen Nia Long, mad pretty, but I doubt most of DL knows who she is.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 3, 2025 1:59 AM |
Kyra Knightley
Gloria Estefan
Eva Marie Saint

R62, when do you think Elizabeth looked her best?
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 3, 2025 2:08 AM |
R59 true. A shame what she has done to herself in her later years.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 3, 2025 2:08 AM |
I thought CZJ was breathtakingly beautiful in "The Mask of Zorro." When she first appeared on the screen, my jaw dropped at such a vision, and I thought, "Who is this exotic beauty?" I was equally transfixed with her with next film, "Entrapment." But for some reason, after a few years had passed, I was no longer as enamored. I can't really explain why.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | May 3, 2025 2:39 AM |
Perhaps you appreciate more mature women now, R67.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | May 3, 2025 2:43 AM |
R31 that's so funny because Lois Chiles is a non entity on screen and Michelle has so much charisma.

Marilyn Monroe

Olivia Newton-John. Even battling cancer, she still looked beautiful and serene. Also, Donna Summer - she knew how to make the most of her attractive features.

For me, Elizabeth Taylor was at the peak of her beauty in the mid- to late fifties. (Raintree County era)
She still looked lovely when she made Cleopatra. But after that her face started regularly showing a bit of puffiness, hardness.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 3, 2025 3:43 AM |
Rihanna when styled well looks nice. But her head has an unfortunate shape.

Vanity, Jennifer Conley(before the weight loss), Elizabeth Taylor, Vanessa Williams, Marilyn Monroe, grace kelly
by Anonymous | reply 85 | May 3, 2025 4:55 AM |
R67 fortunately that was just a few years ago and CZJ is still a young woman with many starring roles to come, and chances to win back your admiration. I'm sure she will.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | May 3, 2025 9:08 AM |
I once worked with a woman who looked almost exactly like Lynda Carter. She was as nutty as a fruitcake, but had many admirers.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | May 3, 2025 9:22 AM |
Another vote for Gene Tierney. Oleg Cassini (one of her husbands) said the camera didn't capture her beauty. She was even more beautiful in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | May 3, 2025 9:27 AM |
I used to think that nobody in the world looked like Isabelle Adjani. Then Monica Bellucci came along. I still think the young Adjani (who now seems to have frozen her face in time, like Christie Brinkley, and something looks very wrong) was the more striking of the two, maybe due to her eye color and mix of Bavarian and Algerian ancestry. She will be 70 years old next month.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | May 3, 2025 9:37 AM |
I'll never understand why anyone thinks Joan Crawford was beautiful (please don't post photos to "prove" she was beautiful). Her looks never appealed to me.

by Anonymous | reply 92 | May 3, 2025 10:09 AM |
Alida Valli at the time of “The Third Man”, not “Suspiria”.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | May 3, 2025 10:13 AM |
Nastassja Kinski is quite beautiful.
She has a quality that Greta Garbo and Ava Garnder also possessed: a certain versatility in their beauty. They actually look almost like different women with different lighting and different styling, but they are always stunning: their beauty was dynamic. I think that's why they win "most beautiful" for me.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | May 3, 2025 10:23 AM |
Valli was a knockout in Technicolor in The White Tower, even though she wore mostly hiking clothes.
I think Ingrid Bergman was gorgeous, btw.
And of course Greta Garbo.

I think Arlene Dahl was gorgeous back in the early 50s at MGM.
Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly in Mogambo were both really something. Both very natural-looking, too. Young Lana Turner was certainly not bad, either. I also think Joan Fontaine was beautiful.
Robert Osborne said Lucy told him she looked like a cigarette girl at the Mocambo.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | May 3, 2025 10:40 AM |
I always thought Lara Parker who played "Angelique" in the gothic soap "Dark Shadows" was beautiful.

Back in the day (as the kids say) beautiful women were put under contract and groomed to become stars. This is probably why we're mentioning a lot of women from the studio era. On screen, they were made up and lit to look stunning. I don't really see too many women stars like that, now. Then in the 70s and 80s (mostly due to Aaron Spelling, I think) there was an emphasis on beauties on the small screen. It was also the era of the supermodels (into the 1990s).
These days, I don't see that many gorgeous women in show business or fashion any more.

R145 I've read many comments on DL ragging Lana's looks as "doughy" and plain, and her beauty mostly reliant on makeup. I don't agree. I think she was a natural beauty. Her features were almost doll-like. Her daughter is also a very elegant-looking woman.

I met Sophia Loren, and u know that scene in Golden Girls where Blanche dolls Sophia up; she says, i made an 84 yr old woman look like a 64 yr old drag queen. Then Dorothy says, Ma, are u in there?....that's what Sophia was like; scaffolding, with her inside. But she stared right at me and smiled. My mom had just died and she loved Sophia Loren; especially how she came from nothing; so it was an incredible moment to be in het presence...but i just felt she deserved to be home with het feet up watching Murder she wrote.

Young Lana was so cute.
Sidney Guilaroff was usually the hair stylist for the MGM female stars, for years, and most of his styles are simple and don't look dated. Not sure if he cut/styled Lana's hair, here, but a lot of the MGM lovelies had the most classic and beautiful hairstyles. Very flattering.
