What a horrible way to go.

Didn’t know she was that old.

by Anonymousreply 1May 1, 2025 11:55 PM

I mean, she had a hit 30 years ago…

by Anonymousreply 2May 2, 2025 12:00 AM

RIP. I didn’t know she was in Minneapolis.

She wrote a song about Mary Kay Letourneau!

terrible death

by Anonymousreply 5May 2, 2025 12:08 AM

Good times. I still remember when Rod Stewart’s “The Killing of Georgie” cracked the top 30. Those were good times, too. R.I.P., lesbian icon.

by Anonymousreply 6May 2, 2025 12:08 AM

Also loved her song about Joey Heatherton.

Who would have dreamed Joey would outlive her?

Hopefully someone will hit with a biographical song about her life.

by Anonymousreply 8May 2, 2025 12:11 AM

In a house fire. That's terrible.

I assumed she swallowed her nose.

by Anonymousreply 9May 2, 2025 12:27 AM

It’s in no small part that love won because of her song.

by Anonymousreply 10May 2, 2025 12:27 AM

Still time to score cheap signed merch from her on eBay.

by Anonymousreply 11May 2, 2025 12:45 AM

OMG just heard about this. So awful.

by Anonymousreply 12May 2, 2025 12:48 AM

she was so consistent.

love her supermodel song from clueless.

called out katy perry's christian you're-so-gay kissed-a-girl crapola.

really enjoy her 'california years' album.

she's been collaborating with comedian julia sweeney quite a bit.

Awww, that's really sad. I hated that fucking song, but that's a terrible way to die.

Anyone know if she was still with Kim Dickens? Didn't they have a little boy together?

Rest in peace.

by Anonymousreply 14May 2, 2025 1:28 AM

So many people have been wishing death on the singer of "I Kissed a Girl" recently.

They probably should have been more specific.

by Anonymousreply 15May 2, 2025 1:34 AM

gnarly fire

Predictions for the next two celebrity deaths- Joan Allen and Ted Shackelford

They split a long time ago. Dickens has been with Leisha Hailey for almost a decade.

Earlier this week Sobule called Rob Schneider and Kid Rock "dumb as a box of hammers" on Instagram. A MAGAt appeared in the comments shortly after her death was announced today to be shitty about it. May a swarm of angry lesbians (or Dickens, wielding a baseball bat) descend upon her.

First time in her life the poor girl has been hot.

by Anonymousreply 21May 2, 2025 2:50 AM

Jetpack is such a great little song.

by Anonymousreply 22May 2, 2025 3:24 AM

R20- “ Earlier this week Sobule called Rob Schneider and Kid Rock "dumb as a box of hammers" on Instagram.”

She was right.

by Anonymousreply 23May 2, 2025 3:27 AM

^ At least she got to take some well-deserved potshots at MAGA chuds before she died

Wasn't Leisha Hailey with k.d. for a while?

I was so sad to hear about this. This was just a few weeks ago.

R4 I love Grace Of My Heart, great movie. I hadn’t thought of it in years

by Anonymousreply 30May 2, 2025 4:29 AM

What a horrible way to go! I’m so sorry to hear this. I’ve followed her on Instagram for years, and found this “All My Mahjong friends are dead” song she posted sung by her mother (who passed away a few years ago) moving and funny at the same time.

And yet Michelle Shocked still walks among us. The universe is cruel.

by Anonymousreply 34May 2, 2025 8:21 AM

Could she have been murdered by a deranged MAGA firebomber?

by Anonymousreply 35May 2, 2025 9:13 AM

Hot Lips Jill

by Anonymousreply 36May 2, 2025 9:34 AM

WHO?

Seriously. I don’t remember a single “I Kissed a Girl” from the 90s and I was out at clubs every weekend. Her name isn’t remotely familiar. But rest in peace lesbian sister. Bless her, such a tragic death.

She’s not Katy Perry, dude. Her version wasn’t a club banger, it was more of an upbeat folk-pop number.

Her song “Supermodel” was also very prominently featured in Clueless.

by Anonymousreply 38May 2, 2025 10:14 AM

I had her CD with I Kissed a Girl and Supermodel on it. I remember liking some of the other songs as well. I’m surprised that she was in her mid 30s when those songs were out. I thought she was in her 20s back then.

by Anonymousreply 39May 2, 2025 10:23 AM

If Elijah Wood and Barbra Streisand had a child.

by Anonymousreply 40May 2, 2025 10:25 AM

I wasn't a big fan, but I liked the video for IKAG - very retro and cute. Major '90s nostalgia...and the Fabio appearance? Mr. MAGA FOX News? God...those were the days, before everyone lost their minds.

To be honest I always thought of her as a one-hit (or 1.5) hit wonder, but seeing the massive thread on Reddit about her death, it's clear that she made a real impact on a lot of people and was quite beloved.

by Anonymousreply 41May 2, 2025 10:39 AM

Sad. I’ll replace two dead smoke alarms in her memory.

My favorite Jill Sobule song was that dysfunctional extended-family portrait, “Merry Christmas From The Family.”

Sad details, she was a guest in her friends’ house, a married couple in the St Paul area. And when the home caught fire the friends ran out, and say they thought Jill was escaping with them.

I’m judging… but if that ever happened in my house, and we can escape you’re my friend in the guest bedroom, I’d be [bold]guiding[/bold] you downstairs and outside with 100% certainty that you make it out. Residents know their own house by feel, guests don’t.

by Anonymousreply 46May 2, 2025 9:01 PM

(word omitted.. “if that ever happened in my house, and we can escape and you’re my friend”)

by Anonymousreply 47May 2, 2025 9:03 PM

Truly a shame, a fabulous singer songwriter. Anyone looking to check out her best work go for "Underdog Victorious" and the most recent release "Nostalgia Kills". "Jetpack", "Where Is Bobbie Gentry", "When My Ship Comes In" all wonderful.
