'Groomed: A National Scandal'
What is it with Britain and grooming gangs? Also, I'm shocked to read something like this in The Guardian. Guess times really are changing.
[quote]The ethnicity of many of the men involved, of course, is what seems to have made the subject so unpalatable to the powers that be. The possibility of being seen as racist – or, given the religion of many of the alleged perpetrators, Islamophobic – apparently outweighed the need to stop children being beaten, raped and trafficked. The testimony of more recent survivors suggests that, whatever the claims made by the various police forces and authorities about a revolution in approaches since, little has changed.

Years ago, I felt very depraved for laughing when I first heard about how the British police kept quiet about these rapist gangs for over a decade because they were concerned about being considered racist. And over time, I finally started to understand the acclaimed sense of humor of the British people.

I was molested when I took my dog in to get groomed.

R2 Stop giving Lorna Luft 'jokes'. She says one thing and one thing only. The repetition is the joke. She doesn't do 'bits.'
It's a longstanding tradition on DL. Same thing with Darfur orphan. He doesn't riff, he's not a wag, he doesn't show up just anywhere, he pops up on a 200 reply thread where bitches are arguing about draining or not draining pasta, where just his presence is the point. Now people are giving him speeches.

White people never groom children. It's all those horrid immigrants.

I don't know, it's the first time I laughed at a Lorna Luft joke in ages. So I vote we allow LL bits as well from here on out.

r4 They do, but not in an organised way and to such an extent as these grooming gangs do, at least not in the UK. Also, your deflection is pretty much exactly what the cited paragraph is talking about – god forbid we save kids from getting raped when we could be holding hands and singing the Kumbaya instead. When you've lost even The Guardian, you know you're probably on the wrong side of this issue.

Grim stuff.
[quote]Erin was groomed from the age of 12 and first raped at 13. The police told her mother that it was Erin’s lifestyle choice. An even worse attack followed. Her mother took her daughter (“bitemarks head to toe”) and her knickers full of semen back to the police. They did nothing. A social services report notes that she is “a young girl … who frequently puts herself at risk”.
I can't understand how or why the worry about being seen as racist or culturally insensitive superseded authorities and social workers' duty of care of those they were to protect.
