Trump blames Biden ‘overhang’ after GDP shrinks in first quarter

Sure, it’s all Biden’s fault.

Does Trump really think anyone believes that bullshit?

[quote] Does Trump really think anyone believes that bullshit?

Trump is our god.

It's the only thing we believe.

by Anonymousreply 1April 30, 2025 2:08 PM

"Overhang" is an unfortunate word choice when all anyone will be imagining is his giant gut.

by Anonymousreply 2April 30, 2025 2:10 PM

It's never his fault, OP. And he's always right. We just have to be patient, jeeeeeeez.

No one with a working brain should be buying any of his nonsense, but here we are.

by Anonymousreply 3April 30, 2025 2:13 PM

Too bad Democrats don't get on TV and clearly diagram this colossal lie, with a simple graph an easy to understand stats.

by Anonymousreply 4April 30, 2025 2:13 PM

"The Biden stock market was overheated. It's necessary to have a course correction."

"The Biden economy was employing too many people, a lot of them criminal illegals. It's necessary to weed out unworthy people and make them jobless."

"The Biden economy was growing too fast. It's necessary to slow things down so President Trump can make more deliberate decisions to guarantee the coming economic boom."

by Anonymousreply 5April 30, 2025 2:15 PM

If my lord and savior says Sleepy Joe Biden is to blame, how dare you question the lord.

by Anonymousreply 9April 30, 2025 2:23 PM

Only the most diehard MAGAs believe this lie.

by Anonymousreply 10April 30, 2025 2:53 PM

MAGA is only 20-30% of the voting population. Even they will reconsider once it starts hurting them personally—which is soon

by Anonymousreply 11April 30, 2025 2:56 PM

I’m loving this!! Let it all fucking burn.

You voted for this

[quote] "Overhang" is an unfortunate word choice when all anyone will be imagining is his giant gut.

Not to mention "overcomb"

by Anonymousreply 13April 30, 2025 2:58 PM

It's fun watching him flail.

by Anonymousreply 14April 30, 2025 3:13 PM

His cult worshippers believe anything he says but ultimately people are selfish and only care about their own pocketbook. And the economy isn’t going to get any better, and the cuts to social services will hurt. Hopefully the American people will learn something.

by Anonymousreply 15April 30, 2025 3:20 PM

He knows his gullible shitstain cult followers will take everything he says at his word without question.

I wonder if Trump internally harbors much the same contempt for them as the rest of us do.

by Anonymousreply 16April 30, 2025 3:31 PM

Or undertaste.

by Anonymousreply 17April 30, 2025 3:40 PM

Sleepy Joe and the Ho destroyed the economy! Mah brilliant President Trump iz trying hard to fix it.

by Anonymousreply 18April 30, 2025 3:49 PM

R16 for sure. He’s always hated them. Remember when a guy got shot and killed at his rally and he couldn’t even bother to call the family?

by Anonymousreply 19April 30, 2025 4:05 PM

We went from a thriving economy to shit in just three months. We can point to exactly what caused it

by Anonymousreply 20April 30, 2025 4:08 PM

the second quarter is only going to be worse, so good luck, don-old

by Anonymousreply 21April 30, 2025 4:09 PM

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) writes Trump's next post for him:

LAST YEAR WHEN THE STOCK MARKET WAS BOOMING THAT WAS BECAUSE OF ME BUT NOW THAT I AM PRESIDENT THE PROBLEMS ARE BIDENS FAULT PLEASE CHILL THIS IS GOING GREAT IM MAKING DEALS BE PATIENT SHORTAGES ARE FINE AAAAAHHHHHH

by Anonymousreply 22April 30, 2025 4:15 PM

All remaining plausibility for a “Blame Biden” argument went out the window on April 2nd with Trump’s big “I hereby launch the Trump Tariff Wars!!” announcement.

by Anonymousreply 23April 30, 2025 4:16 PM

Overhang = Trump's gut.

by Anonymousreply 24April 30, 2025 4:18 PM

When the market did well under Biden he claimed it was because the market was already anticipating the return of Trump.

Seems hard to reconcile.

Oh well.

Yay!

by Anonymousreply 25April 30, 2025 4:21 PM

r21, so we are on the way to the Trump Recession.

So odd, because most recessions are gifts to Democrats from Republicans.

So far, Trump is very much like Hoover. Self-inflicted wounds. And Reagan, but there are no Savings and Loans to crash.

My, my, what Trump investment strategy could crash banking now?????

by Anonymousreply 26April 30, 2025 4:21 PM

He did exactly what the tech billionaires who got him elected wanted and crashed the dollar to make crypto go up. I don’t think he’s thought it through beyond that.

by Anonymousreply 27April 30, 2025 4:22 PM

It took a minute but Trump has now given his MAGAs and his Media people the language and excuses they need to defend his disastrous leadership. Just wait. His Media sycophants will set up a who curriculum around the "overhang." You will hear your MAGA Uncle discuss the "overhang" by Thanksgiving and he will believe he is well informed and even...smart.

by Anonymousreply 28April 30, 2025 4:40 PM

Weird how the economy was growing under "Sleepy Joe" but now it's shrinking

But the media assured us that Biden was too old and incompetent...

by Anonymousreply 29April 30, 2025 5:06 PM

Biden was such a terrible president that the U.S. economy was the envy of the world when he left office. Flash-forward to today's Q1 GDP data:

+0.4% Eurozone

+0.3% Italy

+0.2% Germany

+0.2% Austria

+0.1% France

+0.2% Mexico

-0.3% U.S.

by Anonymousreply 30April 30, 2025 5:08 PM

Biden did a better job half-asleep, compared to the stable genius adderall express.

by Anonymousreply 31April 30, 2025 5:09 PM

Won't it be fun when the Walmart shelves are empty in a few weeks?

by Anonymousreply 32April 30, 2025 5:36 PM

Howard at R5, you forgot to add how great it will be when everyone's kids are working factory jobs just as soon as we get manufacturing back in gear. Except your own kids, who were CEOs before age 30.

by Anonymousreply 33April 30, 2025 5:38 PM

Even though he's old and sleepy and has dementia Biden will definitely be responsible for all the shelves being empty!

by Anonymousreply 34April 30, 2025 5:38 PM

The corporate media peddled the GOP's talking points about a recession that never materialized, and became so invested in the inflation narrative, that Hell will freeze over before any of them admit Sleepy Joe and Janet Yellen did an amazingly good job on the economy.

by Anonymousreply 35April 30, 2025 5:46 PM

Trump and his media co-conspirators pushed the post-truth narrative that the economy was doing as bad in 2024 as it was in 2022. It was not by any means, the economic growth and the stock market were the best they have been in decades. Even inflation had dropped to 2% in 2024. But if that is all the captured listeners hear, that's the view they are going to believe.

by Anonymousreply 36April 30, 2025 5:50 PM

Now he’s blaming Biden for the next quarter as well.

by Anonymousreply 44April 30, 2025 9:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 53April 30, 2025 10:58 PM

Is "overhang" a recognized term in economics? If not I'm going to guess he was aiming at the metaphor of a "hangover" and this is another sign of his encroaching dementia.

by Anonymousreply 54April 30, 2025 11:31 PM

Trump sure is a quick healer!

by Anonymousreply 56April 30, 2025 11:39 PM

by Anonymousreply 59May 1, 2025 12:44 AM

The sad thing id: As long as there is some economic good news in October 2026, real or made up, the mid-terms can still be theirs. The US voters are gullible and have no long-term memory.

by Anonymousreply 60May 1, 2025 12:52 AM

Most of us longed for it starting January 20, r56.

R59 Trump was basically laundering money for Putin and Russian oligarchs for over 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 65May 1, 2025 1:36 AM

Especially when all the problems are being cause BY them.

They're not fixers...they're breakers.

by Anonymousreply 66May 1, 2025 1:39 AM

They can do stimulus checks but the shelves will be bare.

by Anonymousreply 67May 1, 2025 1:42 AM

R65, I don't want Trump to die because then we'll be stuck with JD Vance

by Anonymousreply 68May 1, 2025 1:44 AM

R41 you might just be onto something. Maybe if someone made the argument to Trump that his own loyal MAGA cult will not be able to afford to buy his Trump merchandise and enrich him if he keeps fucking up the economy.

by Anonymousreply 80May 1, 2025 11:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 81May 1, 2025 1:56 PM

That, R56. And Kamala's I can't think of anything I would change! She took a lot of flak for that but why change when things were going reasonably well. Every time Dump opens his pie hole, it costs me thousands.

BTW, I hope you are all prepared to only receive two dolls rather than 30 dolls this year!

Peter Navarro pretty much admitting the tariffs have led to a contraction of the economy... But claims it's a good thing. Really.

[QUOTE]Peter Navarro on CNBC reacts to the shrinking GDP number by insisting it's actually good news because if you strip out the effect of tariffs "you have 3 percent growth. So we really like where we're at now."

Could someone please explain how he received a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard?

by Anonymousreply 85May 1, 2025 5:40 PM

The tariffs were Navarro’s idea! Trump’s demented brain didn’t come up with this scheme on his own

by Anonymousreply 86May 1, 2025 5:48 PM

Navarro might be the one handling the details, but Trump's had a hard-on for tariffs for decades.

by Anonymousreply 87May 1, 2025 5:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 89May 1, 2025 5:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 90May 1, 2025 5:55 PM

Oh, wow, r85. I'd never heard about "Ron Vara." Jesus wept. He probably engaged in shady academic practices going waaaay back. Explains a lot.

by Anonymousreply 91May 1, 2025 5:59 PM

The re-animated corpse of Ramon Novarro would do a better job than Peter Navarro

by Anonymousreply 92May 1, 2025 6:04 PM

I'm in my car this morning listening to the Financial news on NPR and they are talking about Tariffs and South Korea and other countries and they're also analyzing the shit show created by Trump and every other word out of their fucking mouths is "during the Biden administration" this didn't happen, or that didn't happen, or other countries had confidence, or WTF ever. But it waspretty clear t hat things were better during the Biden economy.

by Anonymousreply 93May 1, 2025 6:05 PM

[quote]Navarro might be the one handling the details, but Trump's had a hard-on for tariffs for decades.

R87. True; however, there is a big BUT to this story.

Trump wanted a so-called "economist" to agree with him. Trump charged Jared Kushner with the task of finding someone. Jared found such a person by Googling this quack Navarro. That's how they found Navarro. Trump didn't know what he was talking about regarding tariffs. Kushner also had no idea about economics or tariffs. Navarro fit the bill sight unseen. They didn't know Navarro--they just wanted someone who agreed with Trump. It was just pure happenstance, fucking stupidity and complete disregard to know whether these tariff beliefs were sound that Trump via Kushner stumbled upon this bubbling idiot. These people are tanking the economy based on fucking morons.

by Anonymousreply 94May 1, 2025 6:07 PM

He'll keep blaming Biden for the next four years while Schumer and Jeffries twiddle their thumbs.

by Anonymousreply 95May 1, 2025 7:15 PM

But if you ignore the price increases at the auto dealers and the retail outlets - we're really ahead by quite a margin.
