I love my blackout curtains, op.
I hate sunlight.
My bedroom is like a cave.

Because you're an idiot?
Or lazy?

Tell me about it! I've been enjoying brunch Bloody Marys for the first time in 650 years!

My thermal curtains look like crap but make the rooms they're in a lot more comfortable.

Get a plush sleeping mask. My sister in law got me an aromatherapy kit for Christmas one year that had one. It's actually comfortable and comforting to wear. Those blackout curtains are depressing.

I don't get why so many people are such princess-and-the-peas when it comes to sleep.
Of course, I'm not talking about having flood lights aimed directly into your face. But, normal ambient light is such a problem that you cannot fall asleep? I suppose back when hominids were a prmary food source for other animals, being a light sleeper and waking with the first light of day was an evolutionary advantage.
Glad you found something that works for you, even if I find it ridiculous.

People outside your home still know that you’re naked.

I'm with R9 and don't understand the allure.
Easily drawn and closed curtains can be useful, and curtain linings give curtains weight and help preserve the "show" face of the curtains, but short of scorching rats if the sun beating on me unfiltered, blackout curtains are pointless for me. I can pretty much sleep anywhere with any light if inclined. No need for pills and nightcaps and layers of blinds and shades and curtains lined with blackout fabric. Bright sunlight would wake me, but I could immediately go back to sleep. Soundly. I eager our resident Darfur Orphan could provide a useful lesson drawing a line from sleep troubles to princesses with too much time and anxiety. Spoiled people's problems

I hate pitch darkness, I leave lights on. I have no blinds or curtains on my bedroom window (not visible to neighbors) but I do have blinds in the guest bedrooms. They are so ugly and I hate the way they look. Maybe I should check out some blackout curtains.

Me too OP. I suffer from hypnophobia, panic and anxiety disorder and need my room to be as dark as possible to eliminate stimuli.
I also love that they're thermal.
Recently I installed UV film on my bedroom windows which casts a nice, deep blue hue to my surroundings, dimming down the direct sunlight during the day so I don't have to live like a vampire. Try that next, for your bedroom.

I'm with R8 - a good sleeping mask is wonderful. Completely blacks out everything. They have some that have lavender in them.
I don't care what I look like - fuck that noise. They work really well on planes too.
The problem with blackout curtains is that - you can't take them with you. So what do you do in hotel rooms or planes or other places?
An eye mask is considerably cheaper too.

I want to get them too. My place gets so much sun it washes out the TV during the day even with my conventional shades drawn, which I paid a small fortune for by the way.

I use thermal curtains in winter which also serve as blackout. In warmer months I use lighter ones but make sure they're not see through.

My bedroom growing up was a small dark room, and I am very comfortable in small, dark places. I have layers of curtains on my bedroom windows; the bedroom gets sun on all three sides, so I need them to keep out the light. The curtains are also great for keeping out the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter.
