Beauty Shop Dilemma

Would it be so wrong to stop using my current hair stylist and start seeing a different stylist? Within the same salon, of course.

by Anonymousreply 19April 30, 2025 4:58 AM

Um, yes. You in danger gurl.

Go to another salon.

Expect a slap fight between all 3 of you queens.

by Anonymousreply 2April 29, 2025 9:05 PM

Is your "stylist" a beauty school drop-out?

Yes. You must change salons.

I broke off my 8 year relationship with my barber. It was tough. I couldn't justify the ridiculous prices the place was charging. $50+ with tip for a simple haircut. I felt awful for a long time and still do. He was kind of a dumb stoner dude but he was so fucking nice and great at what he did.

People making their living in the gig economy just love seeing one of their customers switch to another service provider, especially in a recession.

Seinfeld tried it.

It’s complicated. There will be tears.

by Anonymousreply 8April 29, 2025 10:16 PM

Awkward. Do not attempt.

Do you like death stares and uncomfortable lapse in conversations? Want to feel like you're being stared at through the mirror?

Fake insincere greetings from your former stylist?

Tension so thick you could cut it with a knife?

If so - then, by all means - do it and report back to us.

by Anonymousreply 11April 29, 2025 11:28 PM

That’s really messy

by Anonymousreply 12April 29, 2025 11:28 PM

Yes, thanks all. It is indeed too messy and I do not want to upset anyone.

“If you have to ask the question, you already know the answer.”

Someone said it. Might have been Oscar Wilde, Aristotle, or who knows. Maybe it was my mother.

Have a good night dear people

by Anonymousreply 13April 30, 2025 12:38 AM

Oscar Wilde definitely did NOT say that. I know for a fact he stopped using one stylist and then started going to another in the SAME beauty shop.

by Anonymousreply 14April 30, 2025 12:42 AM

It's true, I did, r14. It was a mistake, and I would not do it again.

I know lots of male and female hair cutters, male and female, and I don’t know a single one who would really be upset if their client went elsewhere.

This is a business. If they, or you, can’t treat it as such then you need to example your priorities. Just like bartenders, who also listen to your drama while providing the service, the primary connection is a business one and if you can’t say, “I’m going to try someone different…” to which they can’t say, “That’s a shame to hear, but if you don’t like what you get, remember I’m here with an open chair…” then y'all both need to look at what friendship and loyalty is all about.

I don’t pay friends when we hang out. Have you ever hung out with your hair cutter? If no then you all aren’t friends and you are foolish for treating the relationship as primarily a social one and not choosing another provider.

by Anonymousreply 16April 30, 2025 1:58 AM

R16 - you don't need to hang out with them to be friends. You talk face-to-face for 30-45 minutes every few weeks. You get to know each other's lives - at least I do. I know about their parents, partners, vacations, apartment, etc.

It's more than a professional business transaction.

by Anonymousreply 17April 30, 2025 4:27 AM

It will cause bad feelings amongst the employees and no one wants that. Go somewhere else if you're dissatisfied.

I wear hats so that I don't need to worry about how my hair looks. I have a vast collection for every season and love them all.
