Ali MacGraw

"For her role in Goodbye, Columbus (1969) she won a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer. She then starred in Love Story (1970), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. In 1972, MacGraw was voted the top female film star in the world and was honored with a hands and footprints ceremony at Grauman's Chinese Theatre after having made just three films. She went on to star in The Getaway (1972)"

Then she virtually disappeared at the height of her fame.

Not a great actress but she seems like a smart, lovely person. I think she knew her limitations as an actress.

I remember she had a terrible perm in Convoy.

The next time I hear someone talk about how great a movie is based on its Oscar nominations, I'm going to bring up Ali MacGraw. "Did you know that Ali MacGraw was nominated for an Oscar for her classically bad performance in Love Story?"

by Anonymousreply 3April 29, 2025 5:20 PM

That’s because she sucked, OP.

by Anonymousreply 4April 29, 2025 5:24 PM

*Any* actress playing *that* role in *that* movie was going to get a nomination, r3. Same as with whoever played Oliver.

She was so boring as Lady Whoever on “Dynasty”.

And then she died.

by Anonymousreply 6April 29, 2025 5:30 PM

Holy fuck, didn't we just have one of these a month or two ago?

Ya'll find it -- I'm too lazy to look it up.

[quote]Then she virtually disappeared at the height of her fame.

She could virtually disappear from a movie while you were watching her in it.

by Anonymousreply 8April 29, 2025 5:38 PM

Her disappearance was due to Steve McQueen forcing her to stay barefoot and pregnant while he stayed high on coke, LSD and amyl nitrate. He didn't want HER to smoke, drink or work. McQueen beat his first wife repeatedly.

"He was stoned every day of our marriage" said MacGraw, a very bad actress but talented doormat.

by Anonymousreply 9April 29, 2025 5:43 PM

Wiki said she suffered from sexual addiction. Who all was she balling- or was it just Steve McQueen 3 times a day?

She was hideous on Dynasty.

by Anonymousreply 11April 29, 2025 6:14 PM

Here she is a few months ago. Still beautiful.

She wasn't called Ali MacGrawful for no reason.
