This video makes me so sad.
I used to love going to the city as a kid, and seeing the bustling wharf, teeming with people.
Now it looks like an absolute ghost town.

I remember my first date with the boss. We went to Fisherman’s Whasrf and I got a giant Hershey’s kiss! Why not?!

Tourist trap of all time.

COVID killed the city.
It never recovered from the pandemic.
Thanks, china!

why?

It was touristy but still fun and had some good spots. I remember a cool bar at the end of the pier where I would watch the fog come in.

I was hopping back in 2019 when I was last there.

I spent a month in SF last year. It was great and still bustling. Just because one touristy area is on decline doesn’t meant the city is doomed. Just needs to recalibrate. The things that make SF unique and beautiful are still there.

Yeah, new generations come and habits change. Just look at that In-N-Out at 9:50, it's packed to the rafters. What does that tell you?

A total tourist trap and, even in the past, you could go there at various times of the year or even of the week, and it would be dead. This is just spam.

I don't think this guy is "spam," R10.
If you actually watch the video, he seems to know a lot about the neighorhoods and areas he visits, as well as the history of the area - what types of businesses and owners used to occupy particular stores in that location.
He seems very knowledgeable about San Francisco.

OP this is a cultural thing
The death of the “festival marketplace”
These places replicated suburban malls which are themselves dying
These places were killed by social media which encouraged people to look for novelty, quality and “vibes”
For example, this SF bakery has lines around the block

[quote]This is just spam.
Looking at the comments under the video, it looks like bait to get MAGA to bitch about Newsom again.
And this is nothing new, you have people wringing their hands under videos of dilapidated manses from a century ago. Kitch property that never had much redeeming value in the first place. People hopped up on nostalgia refusing to accept the fact that things change. Also foreigners chiming in that the US looks like a shithole, as if this never fucking happens anywhere else in the world.

Not true there are still great classic fish restaurants. You just need to find them.

Development plan to breathe new life into Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco

But where am I gonna buy my SF snow globe? To quote the guy in the video - Gone!

r16 So many fishermen being interviewed, as if they're a fucking authority on anything beyond fishing.
Go interview some people who've studied urban planning instead. This whole "Plumber Joe knows best" mentality is what got us where we are now.
