Mullets

Why on earth is this atrocity against fashion coming back?

by Anonymousreply 43April 30, 2025 3:59 AM

I really liked them in 1986.

by Anonymousreply 1April 29, 2025 6:23 AM

OP, you could have picked an uglier, rattier modern-day example. With an above-average face and luscious hair like that, plus (no doubt) a talented stylist, you're almost making the case for the return of the mullet. Almost.

by Anonymousreply 2April 29, 2025 6:30 AM

Looks more like hockey hair than a mullet

by Anonymousreply 3April 29, 2025 7:00 AM

Blah. Some of us have fashion sense which transcends such tacky fads.

by Anonymousreply 4April 29, 2025 7:37 AM

I had a shag.

by Anonymousreply 5April 29, 2025 7:45 AM

Ask the 2010s...

by Anonymousreply 6April 29, 2025 10:45 AM

Business in the front, party in the back.

by Anonymousreply 7April 29, 2025 10:47 AM

R2, exactly. That’s not even a mullet. Mullets tend to be short on top, long in the back. Just having longer hair in the back doesn’t make it a mullet.

Mullets are trash haircuts. Some people in the 80s had a style like one (it didn’t have a name) but the true trashy mullet really came into “vogue” with Billy Ray Cyrus in the early 90s.

by Anonymousreply 8April 29, 2025 10:49 AM

They should be illegal.

by Anonymousreply 9April 29, 2025 10:50 AM

The two contemporary examples in OP's link are not so terribly bad. How lucky we would be if everyone who went off to the barber came back looking like either of those two.

I fear the Billy Ray Cyrus style mullet will be the more prevalent sort.

by Anonymousreply 10April 29, 2025 11:18 AM

They looked particularly bad on butch lesbians back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 11April 29, 2025 11:23 AM

Little girls are doing it

by Anonymousreply 12April 29, 2025 11:33 AM

The guy in OP’s pic is gorgeous enough to pull off any hairstyle. Mullets look terrible on 99% of anyone who sports one

by Anonymousreply 13April 29, 2025 11:48 AM

Coming back? I don't think it ever truly leaves my little patch of Australia.

by Anonymousreply 14April 29, 2025 11:51 AM

Not everyone looked good with the "Friends Season 2" hair that seemed to be popular for a decade either. People should wear the style that fits them the best. And yes, some mullets look ridiculous too.

by Anonymousreply 15April 29, 2025 11:55 AM

I found them attractive on my peers in college in the 1980s. Something sexy and hot on the guys I was in class with - especially if they had a muscled body. Back then, PLAYGIRL featured plenty of hot guys in their 20s and 30s with mullets, defined bodies, and nice full erections. Even sexier when the guy had a mustache.

BTW - the guy in the OP is hot. I'd do him !

by Anonymousreply 16April 29, 2025 12:09 PM

Trying to decide if this is better or worse than the broccoli hair trend.

[quote] also known as a Zoomer perm and in the UK as the meet me at McDonald's haircut

by Anonymousreply 18April 29, 2025 1:00 PM

R18, I was going to post that; hilarious!

by Anonymousreply 19April 29, 2025 1:02 PM

r5 is correct. A mullet is anunflattering version of the 1970s shag, which started out as an attractive and easy to style women's cut but was made iconic as a male rocker's style by David Bowie. It always takes about a decade for a cool style to be picked up by the masses and made stupid.

by Anonymousreply 20April 29, 2025 1:17 PM

Have hope. Even Morgan Wallen got rid of his.

by Anonymousreply 21April 29, 2025 1:36 PM

Nope

He looks like a kid with an uneven personality who has to be in the special ed classroom.

by Anonymousreply 23April 29, 2025 2:07 PM

Gen Z loves the mullet!

by Anonymousreply 24April 29, 2025 3:04 PM

Both mullets and broccoli hair should go the way of the dinosaur.

Broccoli hair looks unkempt and unattractive.

Mullets just look trashy.

by Anonymousreply 25April 29, 2025 3:05 PM

R22, He's gorgeous!

by Anonymousreply 26April 29, 2025 3:08 PM

Mullets were last year. The college boys ALL have low tapered fades now - 80s style. The broccoli has been trimmed down, curls loosened, and the hair is long and floppy, but ends in a severe low fade. They have cute little moustaches too.

by Anonymousreply 27April 29, 2025 3:11 PM

It's the 80s floppy hair, young Hugh Grant. They all suddenly have it. Each week more college boys have it. I notice because it's a complete flash back.

The only twist is that it ends in a very tight fade, but low nears the ears and low on the neck. It's not a an undercut. You could also call it the young Jason Priestly. Or preppy. Still popular on my campus - giant loose jeans but high waisted and a bit high watered. XL mom jeans. On the boys with the low cut fade.

The young guys sporting the pornstaches can ditch those as well. Along with the retro, big rimmed “Gary from Accounting” glasses they’ve been so desperately trying to make cool again.

Horrid! Many of them would be very handsome otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 30April 29, 2025 3:26 PM

If we enter a serious global recession or depression, I expect the mohawk and skinhead look to come back among the typical fuckboys, who aren't punks or skins.

by Anonymousreply 31April 29, 2025 3:26 PM

I like the tapered low cut fade and the moustaches. They all look like nice young men from 1930s Vienna, or like movie stars. The Errol Flynn.

I like mullets, always have.

R33 = Big Bertha is Cell Block B

by Anonymousreply 34April 29, 2025 9:23 PM

But when is the Caesar cut coming back?

by Anonymousreply 35April 29, 2025 9:28 PM

The Caesar is always present but at low %. When you spot one in 2025, it almost always has a high fade. I love a soft Caesar cut with no fade.

IDK but do you think he would let me give him a tongue bath?

by Anonymousreply 37April 29, 2025 10:44 PM

I find the Caesar so ugly that it's only acceptable on men who are too pretty otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 38April 30, 2025 1:45 AM

David Bowie's suited him.

by Anonymousreply 39April 30, 2025 1:59 AM

like this pretty boy, r38?

Men look more rugged and manly with a little length in the back. It makes the neck look thicker .

by Anonymousreply 41April 30, 2025 2:13 AM

That woman in the photo looks rather silly in that haircut.

by Anonymousreply 42April 30, 2025 3:53 AM

The butch straight women who’ve never stopped loving sporting the mullet know how to ride that hairstyle, too.

The broccoli just makes every dorky teenage boy all wearing their crocs and sliders while calling each other “bro” every 8 seconds under that haircut, even more annoying than imaginable.
