People who attend college (unless it’s Brigham Young University or something) go through a broadening experience. You live with many different types of people in the dorm and listen to them discuss different topics in the classrooms. This begins to break down fears and stereotypes. You might not have dated someone of a different race or your same sex in your hometown, but you can in college where you’re away from your family.

The very act of relocating to a college campus brings many out of small towns and into a more cosmopolitan place.
