The score to [italic]Ben-Hur[/italic] (1959) and the music from [italic]Sweeney Todd[/italic]?

I finally made it through [Ben-Hur] this Easter. LOVED it. I desperately want nudes of Stephen Boyd from that era. But I digress.

Has anyone else noticed similarities between Miklós Rózsa’s Oscar-winning score and the music from [italic]Sweeney Todd[/italic]? I kept detecting similar melodies the entire time, and I was humming songs from the musical all evening.

So, are you saying Sondheim is a plagiarist?

It’s [italic]theft[/italic]. Just a little [italic]theft[/italic].

Is it really bad?

No, you see, it’s really creatively deft. Plus, you know, the show is a half-cent’ry old, and his body’s cold.
