Dr. Green was THE character that served no purpose at all but had so much potential.

R26 Jonah Robinson (Dr. Mark Green) was never on contract, so 1) TPTB are not bound by a contract to play him, and/or 2) He can go work on other projects at will.

During times of transition, these are often the roles that get cut back or cut altogether, because they're already seen as minor to the story, so the NuWriters may not see a need to play them or they want to spend the budget for talent elsewhere.

Example: JPL is also not on contract, but they may have cut Robinson's minimal episodes in order to play JPL more per month than originally planned. He's sometimes getting more episodes per month now than actors who are actually on contract. That money has to come from somewhere.

Gay or not, I think it was a missed opportunity for the show not developing the character further.

I hope Ron writes a book one day. In addition to the OLTL and the GH messiness at the end, I'd really like to know about his time at Days. While he didn't have to deal with backstabbing actors, I think there were issues with Albert Alaar changing material, and then, post-writers' strike, the wheels fell off the bus.

I think he planned a much bigger story for the Greene family; they were going to be more involved with John Black, but Drake got sick, and Ron had to pivot. I suspect Kat, Mark, and their Mother were all rewritten. Also, the brother who was Tate's age, I can't remember his name, I think he was supposed to play a bigger role, too.

Ron loves the fun, campy elements of soap opera, and he respects the genre, but he needed a break. I think he was burned out. He wrote the show for a long time. To me, it's nice that the show has toned down the camp and the jokes and is a little more soap opera instead of 1980s Dynasty.

I'm giving this new team time, but they've done a great job with the Sarah/Xander stuff and Xander's turn, and of course, these early moments of John's farewell have been good. I think they are setting Johnny on the path to embrace his inner Dimera, which should be interesting to watch. I'm not sure if I'm here for Stephanie the writer, but I'll give them a chance.

I didn't start watching DOOL until seeing Beyond Salem. I was especially touched by the BS episode with John being so into the Pride event with Paul. I knew I liked the guy. I've never been into funeral/memorial episodes on soaps and admit getting bored at times here. But I have to admit they did a really good job with Drake/John's memorial episodes in spite of some obvious holes. I believe the cast loved Drake and the emotions displayed in character were real which added to the quality of the episodes. I think the writers also planted seeds for upcoming storylines without being too obvious. I have been impressed and didn't think I would be.

Allison explained that she couldn't be there for John's actual funeral, but will show up in a couple of weeks for some scenes. There were scheduling issues.

Will and Anna were at the service, but they just weren't seen along with Jack, Jennifer, and Julie. Maggie was also there, just not seen. I'm assuming we are supposed to consider the section where Marlena, et al., were sitting as one section, but there were other sections of chairs with attendees that we didn't see on camera. Carrie commented on the number of people present, and in follow-up scenes with Julie, Jennifer, and Jack, that they were indeed at the funeral. Days had already blown the budget for the month by having that many contract players in one episode, so they did what they could. Personally, I thought Abe should have been at the Brady Pub after the funeral with the gang.

Brady mentioned Isabella quietly, but I'm assuming they didn't want Isabella showing up to take away from the John and Marlena thing.

As for real Kristen, it was explained why Kristen was not there, as for "real" Kristen, again, as said earlier, Days blew the budget with this one. They couldn't afford Marlena, Bo, Hope, all those other contract players, and keep the lights on for the rest of the year. Not that any of them are making what they made back in the day, but still. Days' budget is two nickels, some bubblegum, and a string.

Why wasn’t Kristen there? I have a feeling Eileen would have done it for little money. She loved Drake and took part in interviews last week with the Days cast to talk about him.
