OP if there was a vaccine for the common cold, do you know what that would do to the major pharma companies, and in turn, to our economy ? Just walk down the "Cold and Sinus" aisle of any CVS, Walgreen's, Family Dollar, WalMart, Target, supermarket, etc. and imagine those shelves bare - nothing on them. That's a lot of profits eliminated, and a lot of 'real estate' those stores will never again fill.

R34, not sure what kind of material you are looking for, but alternatives are constantly being developed. They're just not economically viable yet compared to cheap plastic. Also: All the plant based alternatives are harming the environment just as much as plastic because you need so much of it and expanding agricultural land harms mostly the rain forest. "They" keep looking though. Having said that: After 50 years on the moon we still don't know how to revitalize deserts.
