Mushroom “coffee”

Have you tried this? Apparently it’s the new big thing—giving you energy without much caffeine. It’s supposed to taste terrible before adding milk/creamer.

by Anonymousreply 35April 27, 2025 5:57 PM

You can just take mushroom supplements separately (cordyceps, lion's mane, reishi, chaga) because what they add into that coffee will always be of lesser quality and more expensive at the same time as the coffee retailer needs to make a profit on it.

Also, mushrooms won't give you direct energy in an energy spike like coffee. They work like adaptogens, so you'll have more energy and better focus throughout the day. But they're not miracle workers, I've been using lion's mane for a long time and it's nothing special.

by Anonymousreply 1April 26, 2025 12:50 PM

It tastes like broth, not coffee.

by Anonymousreply 2April 26, 2025 1:12 PM

Magic mushrooms?

by Anonymousreply 3April 26, 2025 1:19 PM

How does it affect gout?

by Anonymousreply 4April 26, 2025 1:21 PM

Like postum?

by Anonymousreply 5April 26, 2025 1:22 PM

Taste isn't bad actually, but doesn't do anything those Ryze ads say it will.

by Anonymousreply 6April 26, 2025 2:23 PM

Too much free time.

I don’t consume things that are neither vegetable nor animal.

I just don’t trust the sneaky bastards.

by Anonymousreply 8April 26, 2025 4:02 PM

No...thank...you.

Cordyceps is the fungus responsible for the nightmare in The Last of Use and you’re voluntarily consuming it?

Brave. Or . . .

^The Last of Us

by Anonymousreply 11April 26, 2025 4:49 PM

Yale School of Medicine:

[quote]Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, also known as the zombie-ant fungus, is a real-life parasite, with various strains attacking specific species of insects. The spores of the Cordyceps seize control of the mind and motor functions of their host, causing erratic behaviors and spurring the insect to seek a higher location—where more sunlight and warmth create prime reproductive conditions for the fungus. Upon the insect’s demise, a fungal growth bursts from the host’s head, releasing spores that will claim their next targets.

[quote]In “The Last of Us,” a mutated Cordyceps variant begins infecting humans. But this jump from insects to people is highly implausible, says Roberts. “There are millions of different fungal and mold species out in nature that don’t cause any sort of infection in humans, and this is one of them,” he explains. “A Cordyceps that infects one species of ant cannot even infect other species of ants.”

You want to bet your life on “highly implausible?’ Go for it. I’ll stick to coffee.

"Attack of the Mushroom People" aka "Matango" is a brilliant Cold War paranoid drama and really creepy!

Ryze is the best mushroom coffee on the market today. Organic, low acidic, and 6 functional mushrooms and MCT oil. I've been drinking it over 3 years and it gives me a similar boost to coffee each morning. I still have regular brewed coffee every Sunday morning, and once in a while during the week just to mix things up.

r15 regular coffee and tea with caffeine irritates my bladder and makes me pee often for several hours after ingesting it. I still drink it.

Wondering if Ryze does something similar? I'm guessing no, because of lack of caffeine, but thought I'd ask the question instead of assuming.

by Anonymousreply 16April 26, 2025 9:09 PM

Is Cream of Mushroom soup considered a latte now?

by Anonymousreply 17April 26, 2025 9:19 PM

It includes a hint of Arabica coffee . Ryze however is very low acidic. A serving has about 45mg of caffeine, which is just under the standard 100mg for regular caffeinated coffee. The caffeine in tea ranges wildly from 30 - 100. I also had inflamed bladder which according to my urologist was due to coffee. I had bladder wall hypertrophy, which means a thickening of the bladder due to inflammation. Switching from coffee to Ryze made a big difference within one year my bladder was normal and I didn't feel the unease and need to pee frequently.

r18 thank you for your answer. I may try it. I've had mushroom hot chocolate and enjoyed it quite a bit.

by Anonymousreply 19April 26, 2025 9:32 PM

R14, I was expecting a laughable, cheesy horror but it was surprisingly good.

by Anonymousreply 20April 26, 2025 9:38 PM

Just a fad. Remember Coconut Water, Pomegranate juice....

by Anonymousreply 21April 26, 2025 9:59 PM

It’s already available in the food aisle at Marshall’s.

by Anonymousreply 22April 26, 2025 11:15 PM

Agree r21!

Though I am curious….does mushroom coffee have psylocibin in it I hope? Now THAT could be fun.

by Anonymousreply 23April 27, 2025 12:42 AM

Do you mean the Four Sigmatic coffee they sell at Whole Foods and other places? It's not bad, but I don't buy that it has health benefits. I really like the mushroom-based creamer. During a hurricane last year, we were without power for over a week, and I bought some of this since we couldn't keep milk.

Four Sigmatic is decent. I find Ryze better in taste and performance. I keep a few packets Four Sigmatic around for it's convenience to use when I travel instead of Ryze.

by Anonymousreply 25April 27, 2025 12:58 AM

What’s next? Onion coffee?

by Anonymousreply 26April 27, 2025 12:58 AM

I do this every morning . I mix reishi, cordyceps, chaga, turkey tail, raw cacao, lecithin, coconut cream, (and a shitload of other powders and supplements) with "sticky rice" puer tea, sweetened with honey and allulose. It tastes great but is kinda a chore

by Anonymousreply 27April 27, 2025 1:18 AM

r27, why not add creme of sum yung gai?

by Anonymousreply 28April 27, 2025 1:20 AM

R27 You have fresh varieties of all those mushrooms in your home? Impressive.

Or do you have powders of the mushrooms?

by Anonymousreply 29April 27, 2025 1:25 AM

Is it mushroom head Trump dick coffee? Mmmm…

by Anonymousreply 30April 27, 2025 1:52 AM

R29, they're all separate powdered extracts from Real Mushrooms. They offer combination extract powders, but I like to create my own blends and play morning mushroom mixologist

Having powdered extracts makes more sense.

by Anonymousreply 32April 27, 2025 1:27 PM

They WANT you to eat them. They’re EXPERIMENTING!

by Anonymousreply 33April 27, 2025 1:37 PM

r27, what brand of puer sticky rice tea do you like? I imagine it'll be more expensive with the tariffs coming up.

by Anonymousreply 34April 27, 2025 2:35 PM

R34 I use one of these tuo chas and then add in some red rooibos. I just bought a couple of pounds before the tariffs kick in.

They also sell a Yunnan Sourcing branded organic sticky rice cake which I prefer, but it's prohibitively expensive (for me) for daily use (2020 Yunnan Sourcing "Nuo Mi Xiang" Ripe Pu-erh Tea and Sticky Rice Herb)
