Is a suit, tie and no socks now becoming acceptable or fashionable?

Sean Duffy seems to think so. He also seems to think he's qualified to be interviewed at the World Economic Summit.

Makes you wonder if he's commando while attending to job duties.

Socks are disappearing for executive leaders. I don’t understand it and I hate it. How can people not wear socks. But it is becoming much more common.

by Anonymousreply 1April 25, 2025 5:23 PM

You bet he's gone commando! He's freeswinging and ready for action anywhere, anytime!

by Anonymousreply 2April 25, 2025 5:26 PM

I don't have calcetinephobia like most of you, but those don't look like shoes I would wear without socks. It looks as if he might be wearing those socks you're not supposed to see. The right foot looks as if one of those socks is rising above the back of his shoe. But it's all black, so who knows for sure?

by Anonymousreply 3April 25, 2025 5:32 PM

That's an absurd look. Sockless with a casual summer suit over a collarless shirt, and (the important part) loafers is fine.

But worsted suiting with a tie and Oxfords? No, girl, no.

by Anonymousreply 4April 25, 2025 5:36 PM

[quote]No, girl, no.

Please, girl, please.

by Anonymousreply 5April 25, 2025 5:38 PM

It's been a thing in CA for a while now. I don't love it.

by Anonymousreply 6April 25, 2025 5:45 PM

It’s not “no socks”. The socks are cut low for a sockless look. It’s been a thing for years.

by Anonymousreply 7April 25, 2025 5:56 PM

The no socks thing is fine for casual dress-up - sport coat, dress shirt (no tie), etc. It's also fine for younger men in more fashionable wear at a fancy event.

However, administration officials, executives, and others at the same level should NOT be wearing a youthful fashion like this.

If so, then open up dress for those positions to include more color and other variations. But you can't have a blue suit, white dress shirt, red tie Republican uniform with no socks - it looks stupid and makes you look even dumber.

by Anonymousreply 8April 25, 2025 6:02 PM

Socks?

by Anonymousreply 9April 25, 2025 6:06 PM

The sockless look with a suit and tie, only works if the guy is wearing high-heels. And then the pants should be raised in order to show more ankle.

The old fashion rules are dead.

by Anonymousreply 11April 25, 2025 7:07 PM

Common white trash.

The Real World 🌎 Economic Summit

Hot!

by Anonymousreply 14April 25, 2025 7:40 PM

R10, that picture is an abomination.

Everybody knows that with a suit, you don't do..... up the bottom button.

by Anonymousreply 15April 25, 2025 8:01 PM

It’s a requirement

They're called "peds" which women have been using forever with flat or low heel shoes.

Wouldn't these peds be insufficiently manly for this administration? Doesn't it feminize him?

by Anonymousreply 17April 25, 2025 8:06 PM

R17 - peds are still inappropriate at a World Summit.

by Anonymousreply 18April 25, 2025 10:01 PM

Your feet get too sweaty without socks.

by Anonymousreply 19April 25, 2025 10:09 PM

Maybe Rachel likes his feet that way so she can do a performative tableau of Mary Magdalene (Rachel) crying as she anoints Jesus's (Sean's) feet with fragrant oils and her trear drops as she wipes his unhygienic feet clean with her extensions.

It could happen, you know. And it might wind up on Instagram.

by Anonymousreply 20April 25, 2025 10:19 PM

It looks like some surfer dude had an "important adult" appointment/meeting, and borrowed a suit and tie from someone...but at the last moment before he was to leave for the meeting, realizes "dude, I got no socks, man!"

Then he shrugged his head, figured the suit and tie was good enough and decided to just go sockless.

You know he totally would have worn flip flops if he could've gotten away with it.

by Anonymousreply 21April 25, 2025 10:24 PM

It looks terrible and unprofessional. It wouldn't surprise me if he got a memo from the White House to put some socks on. It's the sort of thing Teump pays attention to.

by Anonymousreply 22April 26, 2025 3:31 AM

I don’t want to think of the foot odor.

And it looks sloppy as hell.

by Anonymousreply 23April 26, 2025 3:51 AM

I think they're no-show socks.

by Anonymousreply 24April 26, 2025 3:55 AM

Is a supercalifragilistic expi alidocious?

by Anonymousreply 25April 26, 2025 4:19 AM

Sean Duffy (even with sockless feet) is the least objectionable of Dump's cabinet choices.

by Anonymousreply 26April 26, 2025 5:20 AM

This just looks so bad.

by Anonymousreply 28June 12, 2025 6:31 PM

The little white-soled leather sneakers would be a better look.

by Anonymousreply 29June 12, 2025 6:32 PM

Horrors!

Quick, Harriet! Fetch my smelling salts!

by Anonymousreply 30June 12, 2025 6:34 PM

[quote]It’s not “no socks”. The socks are cut low for a sockless look. It’s been a thing for years.

It's a thing that makes wme wonder why they don't just chop thier dicks off. So disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 31June 12, 2025 6:53 PM

At a minimum you need a more casual shoe than what secretary dickweed is wearing.

by Anonymousreply 32June 12, 2025 6:57 PM

Depends on the occasion, venue, profession, time of year, quality of ankle. When in doubt, go ahead and throw on a nice pair of dress socks.

by Anonymousreply 33June 12, 2025 6:58 PM

It looks dumb and can't be comfortable. It's also gross.

by Anonymousreply 34June 12, 2025 8:31 PM

This look is awful; however, I have a thing for ankles, so I'm torn.

by Anonymousreply 35June 12, 2025 8:49 PM

The sockless or no-show socks look is unprofessional. I stopped going sickles except when I'm wearing sandals or topsiders with shorts in the summer. The sweat from your feet make the shoes musky and ruin them.

by Anonymousreply 36June 12, 2025 8:56 PM

It's unhygienic and looks nasty. Socks help protect the feet from blisters, corns and other foot issues and also to extend the life of the shoes. Can you imagine the stink that accumulates in the foot bed - a doofus look without a doubt.

by Anonymousreply 37June 12, 2025 8:57 PM

Chris Pine has been doing it for years now.

by Anonymousreply 38June 12, 2025 9:20 PM

Yeah, and Pine is wearing loafers like a reasonable human being.

by Anonymousreply 39June 12, 2025 9:21 PM

Your feet sweat! Why would you go sockless? It’s just dumb. Plus, if you go sockless enough, your feet sweat and moisture will cause you the inside sole of your shoe to tear out of the shoe.

by Anonymousreply 40June 12, 2025 9:46 PM

if he was 22, AND had hairy ankles, I would vote OK. But maybe not at his venue.

by Anonymousreply 41June 12, 2025 10:30 PM

I like it. It says, I'm a man baby

by Anonymousreply 42June 12, 2025 10:32 PM

I was at a wedding in 2019 and so many of the WeHo gay guys had super slim trousers, Gucci loafers, and no socks — visible ankles were de rigeur. Interesting that it took six years to reach DC. In my doctor’s clinic all the men are still wearing those wacky colorful socks.
