R2 Agreed... Hook was terrible. It wasn't his fault. He tried.

The Bird Cage; I know that movie isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he & Nathan Lane have great chemistry

I agree with R5. Maybe some of the Clinton era political humor has aged a bit, but that movie has one of Robin's most masterful comedic bits ("Fosse! Fosse! Fosse!), and he knows when to tone it down and let the other actors like Lane and Azaria steal the comedic spotlight. Even some of the smaller moments are just lovely, like the meeting between him and Christine Baranski where they perform the dance they did years ago ("Virgins are distinctly nervous").

As funny as The Birdcage is, it never gets enough credit for just how well-crafted the thing is. The production design is responsible for some of the movie's best jokes, and there's some really impressive camerawork. It's not a movie where the crew just puts down the camera to observe actors being funny. That's what you get when you hire people like Mike Nichols and Emmanuel Lubezki. Williams might be funny in something like Mrs. Doubtfire, but you just can't compare the craftsmanship of the two movies. The Birdcage is just on a completely different level.
