First song of hers I've enjoyed in ages.
I don't know about that drab, rainy NYC setting though.

Great song! Video doesn’t really match it… I kicked back and listened to this on quality headphones a few days ago and saw such entirely different imagery.
I have no idea if the youths of today still want to hear from Lorde but this is truly good songcrafting. The lyrics, the melodic flow, the moody and emotional energy.

p.s. Lorde’s deep fans are enthralled in the YouTube comments… apparently she was an hour late to an expected appearance in Washington Square Park yesterday and it turns out she spent that hour shooting this video all over the city.

So this was put together in a day? Hot damn.
One of her shoes has duct tape around it, what's that all about? Is that just what the kids do these days?

R3 yeah, everybody saw her jump up and do her song in the crowd scene, that went viral, but then the video dropped and fans were even more impressed.
I just listened again… she chose the perfect partners, the beat is fresh and addictive.

r5 Yikes, she tried to stage a concert in the park without a permit. She's lucky she got off without a charge, NYCers in the comments are right to be annoyed.
And before someone says it's not a big deal, human stampedes can happen anywhere and they are incredibly lethal.

It is a good return to the style which made her famous
Make Lorde Lorde Again

Good Lorde that was awful.

When did she turn 50? And become a lesbian?

We've known well in advance those sort of facial features wouldn't age well and, once again, we've been proven correct.

Lorde says new album was inspired by her ‘gender broadening’:

[quote]“We were working in the East Village, and we walked past this flyer. I think it was for joining a band or something, and it said, ‘Do you have the stones?’ And I was like, ‘Whoa, that’s tight,’” the singer recalled. “I didn’t understand what it was saying at first. I know now it’s like, do you think you have the balls? But it gave me this feeling that there was a mysticism to it. ‘The stones’ felt like, do you have the sort of touchstones or the talismans to go there?
I can't.

There's no use. As much as I try to like her, she'll never come close to what she did with Royals. I didnt like this AT ALL.

Bless her heart.

It's a definitely her trying to recapture that magic of Melodrama - a truly great album. It's a perfectly fine song. I like it. But I don't love it the way I did Green Light when it came out.
(R14 I don't think she'll ever recapture Royals. That song is amazing.)

R12 I rolled my eyes so much I concussioned.

Lorde to me has "Peaked too early" syndrome. She had the entire world raving and drooling at 17, people like Bowie even saying she was "the future of music" and then she just didn't deliver close to her 1st work

New song,. She really released the best one first, didn't she? They lyrics sound intriguing though, I'll look them up later. She mentions a postcard from the edge, clearly a Carrie Fisher fan.
She shows her tits at the end, which seems new.

R18 her second album, Melodrama, was better than Pure Heroine. So at least she has that.
But this album and Solar Power are just flat out duds.
I really thought she be a more relatable Gaga or at least a Lana Del Rey. Man was I wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 23, 2025 4:00 PM |
I really don't understand her music. I'm not sure if she does, either.

What's with the constant gasping for air?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 23, 2025 4:13 PM |
r20 Solar Power was almost shockingly bad, while this one seems like she's trying to return to the sound of the first two albums, so at least it has that going for it. But seeing her trying to affect the tics and the chav image of that initial era a full decade later is just painful to watch.
Experimenting with new stuff failed and now returning to the familiar sound doesn't quite work either. I don't know where that leaves her going forward.
