Hubert Selby's 'other' masterpiece. Free on Roku channel. It's amazing LETB and Requiem for a Dream were ever adapted for mainstream film audiences.
This was a hard watch. Very dark film.

I don't get into details (although those who have read it might know to what I refer), but there is a scene at the end of one of the chapters that made me physically ill.

The book is nastier

I watched this in my teens and it traumatized me . Especially the part at the end

I read the book as a teen and was traumtized. I have no plans to watch the film.

The Room was somehow more disturbing. An unapparelled look into sadism and sadistic fantasies.

I haven't watched it because I've heard about the rape scene. It sounds like it would completely ruin my day.

The Room is Selby's darkest. It will never be a movie. I'm still amazed the first two were made into movies -- Requiem for a Dream and Last Exit to Brooklyn. I'm waiting for someone to do a documentary on Selby. I need to know what made him see humanity as he did.

I’ve had The Room on my nightstand for years. Maybe I should crack it open.

Not for the faint of heart, r18

Speaking of The Room, I've always been intrigued by the dedication:
[quote]This book is dedicated, with love, to the thousands who remain nameless and know.

When I saw this as a teenager I wanted to be Tra La La.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 27, 2025 12:18 AM |
In the movie I had more pity for Tra La La. She sounds like a really nasty skank in the book. And she doesn’t bathe

I watched this today, and I found myself rolling my eyes and saying, "Whoever wrote this knows [italic]nothing whatsoever[/italic] about women."
Nothing about the movie disturbed me because it all seemed so fake.
