I can't think of too many shows that can compare to it...
Was there ever a better TV show than Three's Company?

Yes.

Other iterations of One Day At a Time, for two…

Both** not other.

I’d like to think the work I did made a difference.

Yes. All of them.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 24, 2025 4:10 AM |
Yes. Thankfully.

Jack Tripper was sexy only when compared to his friend Larry.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 24, 2025 4:17 AM |
It was a terrible show. Never funny.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 24, 2025 4:30 AM |
I was a child when it was on, and I enjoyed it then. But watching it now I find it cringeworthy on pretty much every level. The same with Happy Days. Few shows of that period hold up to modern viewing.

There are many things that are not tv shows that are better tv shows than threes company.
A plate of cold spaghetti is a better tv show than threes company.
Specks of dust spiraling in the afternoon light are a better tv show than threes company.
My spam email folder is a better tv show than threes company.

The last time Stanley said that to me, I was still wearing skirts.

It was really just silly French sex farce: "Oh my God--Janet was only talking to a boyfriend about watering her plants? Here while we were eavesdropping, Chrissy and I thought she was talking to him about watering her BREASTS!" As such it seemed smutty for the day, but of course today seems pretty harmless.
It wasn't very good except for Audra Lindley in the early years being funny and likeable (and memorably decked out in hilarious muumuus), and most of all for John Ritter's wonderful talent at pratfalls and physical comedy.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 24, 2025 4:48 AM |
It was hilarious. Jack, Janet, and Mrs. Helen Roper were always my favorites.

R19 Yes, all of them.

I can still watch and enjoy many episodes of "Laverne and Shirley" when they were still in Milwaukee.

If comparing to Joannie Loves Chachi, then no.

On saw this in re runs, in Ireland and loved the original 5. Audra Lindly was so loveable. Suzanne Sommers was fab as Chrissy and John Ritter, well, he was the glue that pulled it all together. I actually think those 5 actors were just so likeable. I remember it looked so dated by the late 80s, when i was watching; but we laughed out loud a lot; what show or big Hollywood movie does that? In fact, what recent Hollywood Comedy movie made you laugh?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 24, 2025 10:37 AM |
I think it was pretty good for it's time. It wouldn't have mattered though if John Ritter wasn't the lead.

Thousands OP

My first gay tingles came about as a five year old lusting after prat fall heavy, and thick of chest hair, Jack Tripper. I always thought Ritter was a good guy and felt a real pang of lost when he passed. Le sigh.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 24, 2025 1:32 PM |
Yes, lots of them.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 24, 2025 1:50 PM |
I think so
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 24, 2025 1:52 PM |
I didn't like this show even when it was new.

Every episode was about a misunderstanding.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 24, 2025 4:13 PM |
Depressingly unfunny

I'm sorry, I misunderstood this post

I mean, it's no "Blansky's Beauties", but it held its own for a while.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 24, 2025 5:01 PM |
The Ropers and Chrissy were the only funny ones and they got rid of them.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 24, 2025 5:17 PM |
I recently watched some of the British original — some of the scripts, including the pilot, are almost word-for-word identical.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 24, 2025 6:35 PM |
It's probably funnier with a British accent.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 24, 2025 6:45 PM |
Which DVDs are the best quality of this show?
It's been rereleased several times.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 24, 2025 7:25 PM |
That happens a lot with early episodes of the adapted show, R38. The first season of “Sanford and Son” just used a lot of “Steptoe and Son” scripts.
“All in the Family”, however, did not do that. In fact, the script, the house, the character’s personalities were quite different. It was “based upon” “Till Death Do Us Part” but Archie wasn’t as nasty as Alf and the wife was sarcastic and cutting in the original.

Jenilee Harrison was a terrible actress, but I still love the idea of having a character like Cindy whose most defining characteristic is that she's klutzy. Who even used the word "klutz" today?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 24, 2025 9:06 PM |
R42, why terrible?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 24, 2025 10:35 PM |
Well, there's only so many times Cindy could fight with her ironing board before it wasn't funny.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 24, 2025 10:49 PM |
I can think of hundreds,if not thousands.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 24, 2025 11:33 PM |
Best sitcom for sure

I'd like to point out that I was the only of the three "blondes" who did not flash muff in an adult men's periodical!

I'm surprised that this show isn't more loved on here

[quote][bold]Neil:[/bold] Eli, Vicki Appleby told me that she doesn't think Three's Company is funny.

There was a lot of mindless shit on tv when programming was limited.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 26, 2025 3:30 AM |
The show was supposed to be a mindless diversion. That's fine, I like a wide variety of programs. This was good for it's time. It can be seen as an amusing time capsule.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 26, 2025 8:50 PM |
I love the opening credits to the second pilot shot where the camera lingers too long on the actor’s faces.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 26, 2025 9:08 PM |
There were 3 pilots. Which one was the best?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 27, 2025 10:38 PM |
r55 The one with Suzanne Somers
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 28, 2025 11:28 AM |
R41- Go back and watch the very early episodes of all in the family from early 1971 and you will see that Archie is super nasty. When the show premiere for the first full season in the fall 71 they tone down Archie a bit he wasn’t super nasty anymore. And Edith was made more ding bat-ish and a little more sympathetic.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 28, 2025 12:33 PM |
R54, that is SO funny! The way the camera lingers is so awkward.
