The best made for TV movie of the 70s was Duel with Dennis Weaver, directed by Steven Spielberg before anyone knew who he was.

by Anonymousreply 1April 24, 2025 1:42 AM

Joan Crawford sure as hell knew him before.

Patty Duke was the queen on the shitty 70s TV movies.

^^ OMG - just looked at the credits. Quinn Cummings was the little girl!

What a comedown after an Oscar nom.

by Anonymousreply 10April 24, 2025 5:32 AM

Patty and John had Oscars, not just noms, so they came down farther.

Great movie, though not technically a television film as it did get a theatrical release—I think it was certainly more popularly known in television though.

But darling, your nomination was more recent than their wins, IIRC. And you were so very young, much was expected of you.

Yet you gave us this - Stephanie Zimblast chasing you with a kitchen knife.

There was another made-for-tv "dangerous babysitter" movie that came out a year or two later with Kim Darby, "Summer Girl" I believe it was called. I think the girl who got all incest-y in the Amityville sequal was the babysitter.

She was crazy, you know.

Dee-ranged.

And short.

by Anonymousreply 15April 26, 2025 2:45 AM

Yes—that’s Kim Darby alright.

by Anonymousreply 16April 26, 2025 2:47 AM

Lamont Johnson directed this one and "My Sweet Charlie," which she won an Emmy for.
