It seems underplayed. What gives. RIP.
Why isn’t the Pope’s death not getting more attention

I have a sort of been there done that feeling.

I lot of us don't give a RIP.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 23, 2025 2:31 PM |
I'm not getting that impression but that means nothing. Maybe because it wasn't unexpected?
Perhaps the bigger news coverage will come with his replacement.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 23, 2025 2:33 PM |
He's been very sick for a long time; it's honestly a wonder he lived this long. Even before his death, attention turned to What Comes Next since he enacted reforms that may not survive his passing

I just assumed OP was being sarcastic.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 23, 2025 2:36 PM |
Everyone was expecting it already when he was hospitalized for pneumonia. That said, it's all over my social media, so I don't know what more attention you expect. I imagine they wouldn't give it much coverage on FOX and the other propaganda outlets because he was too woke...and wouldn't want people to ask too many questions about JD's incredibly coincidental meeting.

Did you see what this cunt said?!
[quote] "Today there were major shifts in global leaderships," the Republican Congresswoman's post read. "Evil is being defeated by the hand of God."
So she hates Jews AND Catholics? I wish the Hand of God would smack her in the mouth.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 23, 2025 2:57 PM |
It's THE big news worldwide besides the latest Trump nonsense. I'm not sure any news story could be bigger in the present day.

Wait until Luigi The Rational takes over, things are gonna start changing around here!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 23, 2025 3:01 PM |
Why is this especially important for non-Catholics? We don't care what your leaders have to say.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 23, 2025 3:15 PM |
Not to me it’s the first news story in most media and really not unexpected.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 23, 2025 4:32 PM |
Very old sick man dies, that isn't exactly unheard of or shocking.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 23, 2025 4:34 PM |
I don't think he was very popular. He was a major hypocrite, more than most popes.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 23, 2025 4:44 PM |
Why is not the pope’s lack of living not never getting the opposite of no attention?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 23, 2025 4:50 PM |
He was actually the least hypocritical pope in AGES.

Maybe people have tired of popery.

Poor Popery.

I was just wondering the same thing as OP today, JPII's death was MASSIVE in comparison. I think it's because Benedict stepped down and then died pretty much in obscurity, and now this one's dead after only 12 years. So it's lost a bit of a punch that it once had.

On my way to the dentist today, I was shocked when I saw the US flag flying at half-staff in front of the municipal building. I wondered who was the reason for it, and then I remembered -- that godless evil fuck the Lord of Orange ordered it so.
Life is funny.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 23, 2025 6:04 PM |
I didn't know Trump had ordered flags at half staff, but the hospital near me had flags at half staff but it is a Catholic Hospital and figured that was why.

I guess it's because mainstream media is actually waiting for another big and sudden death that could happen sooner in this year and that will definitely stop the world.
My guess is... Bieber.

**BEARKING** Word from Rome is that Pope Francis has died.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 24, 2025 1:13 AM |
I think it has had an appropriate amount of attention - even too much already. It's a sign of how society has become less religious overall across the Western world.
Plus the PR for the Catholic Church the last 20-25 years has not been good.
"Members of the Church's hierarchy have argued that media coverage was excessive and disproportionate" - yeah, fuck all the way off with that. THIS Pope accused some of the accusers of fabricating their stories - which he then walked back a bit later.
Look what has happened to Ireland in the past 20 years - it went from being THE Catholic country to not being so religious in just one generation. Why? Fucking scandal after scandal after scandal - sex abuse, Magdalene laundries, selling babies for profit - on and on and on.
People's eyes have been opened to what they blindly believed - and the Catholic church is still wildly out of step. So who gives a shit if the Bishop of Rome dies?

R16, are you having a stroke?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 24, 2025 3:05 AM |
I have a sinking feeling that King Charles won’t be around long. I hope he gets a lot of attention. He waited so long to become King in the first place. We can’t let Trump suck the life out of that coverage. Unless he gets hit by a truck ….
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 24, 2025 4:23 AM |
Trump is going to the Pope's funeral, seems blasphemous to me.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 26, 2025 4:22 AM |
R28 would you use the word blasphemous for a religion that was against homosexuals but protected their clerical pederasts?
