That’s him in the middle. I know he worked closely with Dolly. He seems like the kind of gay who knew an awful lot about folks but kept it to himself.
DataLounge, what do you know about Sandy Gallin?

I don’t know her.

Is he the one who married a cute guy who is decades younger than him, or am I perhaps confusing him with someone else?

A talent manager? Who was sued for sexual harassment by two former employees? Who then countersued them for breach of contract? He sounds like a real peach.

Calvin Klein, Kelly Klein, Sandy Gallin, Andy Warhol

Met him about a decade ago when I was younger and cuter, but even then his face was a grotesque distortion with all the plastic, and fillers and botox. Yuck.

There's an ongoing story in The Andy Warhol Diaries about Dolly buying a portrait of Sandy, but then changing her mind, and wanting a refund. I won't quote it all here, but I'll leave a link.
[quote]Went to Calvin’s on Central Park West (cab $4). I asked Steve if he’d invited Bob Colacello and he said no, that since Bob wasn’t working for anyplace why invite him. Calvin had fourteen boys and one girl—Sue Mengers. Barry Diller was there and Sandy Gallin, the big agent.
[quote]It was fun talking to Sue, she’s such a pig. Then we went in limos to Carnegie Hall. Steve gave us two seats way off, separated from the center seats that he had.
[quote]Joan Rivers came on with her boa, and she’s funny, but I don’t know how she can say the things she does and get away with it, how she’s not sued. Like she said that Richard Simmons is carrying Rex Reed’s baby, and she says that Christina Onassis looks like an ape, and she did a thing about Nancy Reagan picking her nose with a breadstick. But then afterwards everybody was talking like her, so I guess she’s popular.

R2 That's David Geffen, I believe.
In the photo in the OP, taken in 1986 at a house party he had, Parton said in an interview that it was the first time she was in the same 'close space' as Barbra so she went up to say hi and introduce herself. She had also wanted her to know she had written a song she thought would be perfect as a duet with her. However Streisand , who only hired Gallin in that gap year when she dropped Peters as her manager and hadn't yet signed with Marty, supposedly didn't go beyond the introduction phase, didn't make conversation - just said 'hello' and walked away and went to talk to someone else at the party. Dolly said she was hurt, and figured Barbra 'just doesn't like her' . It was the only time she ever had the opportunity to be face to face with her, and she was disappointed. She said something along the lines of : "I don't know what I ever did, but she was not nice to me. I guess she doesn't like me."

David Sedaris told a story during his live show about how Sandy took him to Dolly Parton's empty UES apartment so David could gawk at it. Apparently it's not "hillbilly themed" and she has really fancy art.

I don’t believe ^that^.
I believe Dolly’s properties all look like Cracker Barrel interiors.

Thanks for the quotes and the link, R7.
Have you read the diaries in their entirety? 1100 pages is a lot of that kind of material.

Sandy Gallin was total lavender mafia.
Had a production company with Dolly, Sand Dollar Films, produced the Oscar-winning documentary about the AIDS quilt.

R12, Yes, I devoured The Andy Warhol Diaries when they were first published, and still remember SO MANY anecdotes from them. The comments have a way of sinking in, like calling Sue Mengers "a pig": it makes me chuckle to this day.

I remember that Spy magazine supplied an index because the original Diaries did not. Before that, I read that It must have driven people crazy trying to find their names and what scandalous things AW may have written about them.

I have literally no stories of interest about him but he was friends with my boss (who moves in the circles spoken of above) and I spoke to SG on the phone a few times over the years. I think he might've come into our office a few times in the aughts. Nothing salacious to report, it was all business and our interactions were brief

R7 thank you for posting a link to the Warhol Dairies.

Does anyone remember when Gawker had those pictures of Sandy and Barry Diller on vacation with a bunch of young hunks?

Dolly and Barbra met several times and were friendly.
Dolly was one of the first people to hear "A Piece of Sky" from Yentl. This happened at a private party when Barbra played the song for everyone. Carole Bayer Sager made a shady comment by asking, "Did you hold the note that long, or did they loop it?" Barbra assured her that she most definitely held the note that long.

[23] The documentary based on the Warhol Diaries is really well done. It’s a Ryan Murphy production and they used AI generated voice for the narrator that sounded like Andy reading his own diary. I watched it several times. Having a first edition hard copy of the book I was glad they did such a good job with the doc. It covers his first love, his relationship with Jean Michel Basquiat, even when he attended the Diana Ross Central Park concert with a young, beautiful Rob Lowe as his date. I think it’s on Netflix.

R25 I found an article where the interview is referenced. I stand corrected on two things: Streisand employed Gallin as her manager briefly around 1981, not 1985, when she dropped Sue Mengers as her manager (after the bomb of the film 'All Night Long'). It was at Gallin's house at that time where she met Dolly for the first time, and the introduction was unpleasant (though this is not the full interview, just a reference to it):
[quote]In an interview with Playgirl Magazine in 1981 though, Parton was asked if she had met Streisand. She mentioned that they share a manager, so they had the chance to briefly meet at the manager's beach house with other people around. This did not really allow for any sort of relationship to develop. However, in her book, "Dolly on Dolly," she expanded on this thought. "I didn't feel like she really liked me too much, but there were a lot of people around. It wasn't anything bad, but it wasn't anything good."

The Warhol Diaries is the only place I've ever read anyone saying anything remotely derogatory about Parton. In one passage he kinda mocks her played-up country affectations & in another he tells how she refers to fans as mostly gays & dykes.

[quote]Erlichman Back as Streisand's Manager
[quote]By Paul Grein
[quote]Feb. 15, 1986
[quote]Marty Erlichman has resumed management of Barbra Streisand, whose career he guided from 1960 to 1976. Erlichman succeeds Jon Peters, who took over as manager during the making of “A Star Is Born.”
[quote]Erlichman says he and Streisand got back in touch a few years ago. “We hadn't seen or spoken to each other for a couple of years, and then through a mutual friend she found out that we were both up skiing in Utah. She called me and we got together. After that, we stayed in touch more regularly.”
[quote]Erlichman officially resumed his duties as Streisand's manager at the beginning of the year. “I've spent most of the past six weeks just playing catch-up,” he says, “going back over old contracts and commitments.

Around 2009 Sandy hired me from Rentboy. I had never heard of him before. Got to his 5th ave apt (facing the park), and he actually had another escort who was just leaving and some fem asian houseboy / bf (I wasnt sure). The entire thing sexually speaking was awkward; I recalled he moaned loudly while the asian played with his nipples and when he blew Sandy (like comically over-the-top screamingly loud moaning).
However, after all that awful loud noisemaking, the asian left or went to sleep in another room and Sandy and I sat up talking about art, artists (he had a series of lithographs of “floating cheese pieces” by Ed Ruscha) and the spurned the sunrise art chat. Sandy paid well and it was an interesting encounter. Once back at my hotel I googled him.
