What a lame.

"Table to Stix" is a really lame take-off of "Farm to Fork." Makes no sense.

"How am I supposed to make money?"

If you need the tip to make money, then stop pretending the tip is optional and include it in the fucking price!

Restaurant tipping (and tipping in general) has gotten out of control in the US. We are way past needing to adopt the European style of dining out. Pay your employees a living wage and price your food appropriately. If someone still wants to tip that's up to them, but it should not be looked upon as a requirement.

by Anonymousreply 3April 21, 2025 6:29 PM

We can adopt the European style of dining when we have European population numbers.

by Anonymousreply 4April 21, 2025 6:40 PM

Europe has 740 million people. The EU has 448 million people. So what exactly is that comment supposed to mean?

by Anonymousreply 5April 21, 2025 6:43 PM

R4 That is nonsensical.

by Anonymousreply 6April 21, 2025 6:45 PM

Some people just dismiss otherwise fixable issues with "well, the US is just too big, it'll never work", it's such a lazy argument. And reeks of exceptionalism, too.

when I was in Paris two three weeks ago I went to a restaurant and after I was done they brought a tiny bucket with the word tip on it. So at least in paris they do expect customers to tip.

Europe is made up of numerous countries. Europe is a continent.

The USA is a country.

by Anonymousreply 9April 21, 2025 6:58 PM

You’re comparing an entire continent to a singular country.

by Anonymousreply 10April 21, 2025 6:59 PM

R8 - you should have knocked the bucket over.

by Anonymousreply 11April 21, 2025 6:59 PM

R8 they do in numerous countries in Europe. As stated, that poster is speaking as if the entire CONTINENT of Europe has the same practice. Europe is a continent made up of many countries. Each country has its own laws and regulations

by Anonymousreply 12April 21, 2025 7:02 PM

OP, you're lame. Lame is an adjective. "What a lame..." what? You need a noun, you twat. So much for your lame race baiting. We know, blacks don't tip. blah blah blah.

by Anonymousreply 13April 21, 2025 7:17 PM

R8 Were you in a tourist trap? I've never known that to happen in France, and I'm half-French. We also don't use the word 'tip'.

by Anonymousreply 14April 21, 2025 7:47 PM

You were being trolled R8

by Anonymousreply 15April 21, 2025 9:33 PM

We should always provide tips, since the owners fail to pay a living wage.

by Anonymousreply 16April 30, 2025 10:07 PM

r4 "We're too big to fix our shit" isn't the flex you think it is.

by Anonymousreply 17April 30, 2025 10:45 PM

Ok, someone needs to say it. Black people frequently don't tip, this is a typical and cultural issue. I think this Chinese restaurant manager was addressing a common issue he's having with the clientele....moreso than singling out and going postal on one guy.

Yes, tipping culture is out of control (for counter service), but if those customers sat down for a meal, and didn't tip, they are assholes. Being followed is the Chinese guy being racist and profiling the whole demographic for a repeated issue.

by Anonymousreply 18April 30, 2025 10:47 PM

There was a time in U.S. history when tipping was deemed 'un-American'. It was our ideal of egalitarianism and a fair day's pay. I wish this movement would reappear. Just raise your prices to cover your employees fair wages.

by Anonymousreply 19April 30, 2025 10:49 PM

We’re more like Brazil than Belgium now, so that norm was thrown out the window.

by Anonymousreply 20April 30, 2025 10:54 PM

Well that's nasty.
