At the time, she wanted exceptions for rape and incest for a fetal heartbeat abortion bill that was introduced into the state legislature. Anyway, Mace stated that she had been raped as a teenager and that only her mother and best friend knew. This 2019 LA Times article references other incidents of female legislators sharing stories of being raped in response to to abortion related bills. I feel like an asshole for this, but I wonder if Mace borrowed details for the other womens' stories (which includes Gretchen Whitmer) and came up with her own "story".
