How ridiculous, on so many levels.

by Anonymousreply 1April 19, 2025 6:44 PM

Well it’s like two iPhones in one. What else were folks expecting?

by Anonymousreply 2April 19, 2025 6:57 PM

Easy solution: keep your old phone and don't buy a new one?

Now how easy was that?

by Anonymousreply 3April 19, 2025 7:06 PM

I have sufficient.

by Anonymousreply 4April 19, 2025 7:14 PM

Dumb idea.

by Anonymousreply 5April 19, 2025 7:16 PM

More, with tariffs.

by Anonymousreply 6April 19, 2025 7:20 PM

The price will eventually be reduced....you don't need to buy the first version. HOWEVER, continue to BUY Apple products - I have stock in Apple.

Help a sister out!

by Anonymousreply 7April 19, 2025 7:23 PM

What is the appeal of an iPhone that folds in half relative to a normal one?

by Anonymousreply 8April 19, 2025 7:31 PM

The larger screen when it’s unfolded, R8. Better for productivity at work using multiple apps, or being completely unproductive by watching videos and wasting time. It will be like having an iPad that you can fold in half and stick in your pocket.

by Anonymousreply 9April 19, 2025 7:57 PM

I upgraded my phone, MacBook and iPad in anticipation of the tariffs. It will be five years before I have to buy anything from apple. This foldable is visually enticing so Apple whores will still buy this

by Anonymousreply 10April 19, 2025 8:35 PM

The tariffs aren’t going to affect Apple products, R10.

by Anonymousreply 11April 19, 2025 8:48 PM

R10 I did the same.

R11 You say that now, and I’d like to believe it, but this administration flip flops so often. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 12April 19, 2025 9:03 PM

“You can’t afford it!”

by Anonymousreply 13April 19, 2025 9:11 PM

Too big to be a phone and too small to be a tablet.

And just how much does it cost to make these things? I assume it's all gouging.

I remember saving my lawn mowing money to buy an expensive VCR. This is the same.

by Anonymousreply 14April 19, 2025 9:19 PM

The cost is about more than parts and labor, R14. You also have to consider research and development, on which Apple will have spent a pretty penny to make something like this from scratch.

by Anonymousreply 15April 19, 2025 11:58 PM

Get bigger pockets and carry an iPad Mini.

by Anonymousreply 16April 20, 2025 12:07 AM

Who am I kidding? I’ll get one.

by Anonymousreply 17April 20, 2025 12:12 AM

R10 me 2 bodega.

by Anonymousreply 18April 20, 2025 12:17 AM

Why don’t get an iPhone and an ipad then

by Anonymousreply 19April 20, 2025 12:33 AM

Because then you have to carry two devices around, R19.

by Anonymousreply 20April 20, 2025 1:03 AM

Always something "innovative" from the Apple racket.

by Anonymousreply 21April 20, 2025 1:08 AM

People who live just about their entire lives out of a little plastic box are pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2025 1:13 AM

That’s most of us now, R22.

by Anonymousreply 23April 20, 2025 3:31 AM

Oh, shove it up your ass Apple

by Anonymousreply 24April 20, 2025 4:01 AM

Programmers and designers have mortgages too, you know. Those bills aren’t going to pay themselves. But designing a new must-have device would help.

by Anonymousreply 25April 20, 2025 4:06 AM

What? there are probably half a dozen foldable smart phones out there, this is not innovative, it a day late and a dollar short.

by Anonymousreply 26April 20, 2025 5:20 AM

No one needs this. If you're buying this phone you should be sitting next to Gayle on her historic flight to the moon.

by Anonymousreply 27April 20, 2025 5:26 AM

No one needs an iPhone either R27 with that rational. The world worked just find for hundreds of years before smart phones came along. Just more convenient to have one as I would imagine the people who want this have the same justification you probably have for you iPhone.

by Anonymousreply 28April 20, 2025 5:32 AM

I believe the word you wanted was "rationale," right, R28?

by Anonymousreply 29April 20, 2025 5:37 AM

Didn't we already do flip phones about 15 to 20 years ago?

by Anonymousreply 30April 20, 2025 6:01 AM

Apropos of….not that much really, but my aging iPhone always runs like new again when I make sure to export anything important off the phone and run a factory reset and start with a clean OS over again. I do it every couple of years. Along with one battery replacement so far (appointment at the Apple store).

Since I got this iPhone 12 during its release year, I’ve used this mobile longer than any of my prior ones. It’s worth it to “rehab” them occasionally (Factory reset and/or battery replacement) because it can really stretch out the useful life of expensive things like these.

by Anonymousreply 31April 20, 2025 6:15 AM

Nobody wants this shit

by Anonymousreply 32April 20, 2025 6:35 AM

Unless it turns into a full blown Mac when I plug it into a monitor, no thanks. This is a fucking waste of money.

by Anonymousreply 33April 20, 2025 6:38 AM

They’ll want it when Apple tells them they want it, R32.

by Anonymousreply 34April 20, 2025 12:59 PM

WHET Apple Vision Pro? It's been a year now, we were all told we needed to get one immediately or we're lame.

by Anonymousreply 35April 20, 2025 1:01 PM

[quote]Nobody wants this shit

The brain dead zombies all need it to signal their coolness and social status to the rest of us.

Of course, Samsung has a two types of folding phones for years now—and neither exists anywhere near $2500

by Anonymousreply 37April 20, 2025 1:04 PM

Why this is bad news for Harris/Walz bisexual techies.

by Anonymousreply 38April 20, 2025 1:11 PM

R37 They’re alluding to the effects of Trumps economy.

by Anonymousreply 39April 20, 2025 1:11 PM

R39, the article doesn’t bring up the economy at all

by Anonymousreply 40April 20, 2025 1:13 PM

For someone like me who's juggling between the choices for a small screensize for portability but also a bigger screen for web browsing and watching videos, this is a perfect compromise. fold it to make it pocket friendly and unfold it for web browsing. I'm sold on this one.

by Anonymousreply 41April 20, 2025 1:30 PM

It was cute when Samsung did it 6 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 42April 20, 2025 1:33 PM

R40 Oh my bad then, I presumed.

by Anonymousreply 43April 20, 2025 2:16 PM

Google Pixel has one too.

The problem with the foldable is they’re twice as heavy

by Anonymousreply 45April 20, 2025 6:04 PM

That better be one problem Apple has somehow fixed, R45. We’re looking for Apple to fix the issues that have plagued the current foldables on the market.

by Anonymousreply 46April 20, 2025 9:12 PM

The iPad mini has an 8.3" screen. It looks like it's a bit smaller than that.

To me, it's not worth it. I'd rather have an iPhone Pro Max and iPad. When I'm out and about, I use my phone. When I'm home or traveling I use the iPad on planes on in bed.

But, I can see how some folks might be willing to have one suboptimal device to replace two others that are better suited.

by Anonymousreply 47April 20, 2025 9:23 PM

If you don’t have the second device, as many iPhone users don’t, then it won’t be perceived as a suboptimal combination of two devices but rather enhancing the experience of the single device they actually use.

by Anonymousreply 48April 21, 2025 1:35 AM

If thats it then its too small. Should be two largest IPhones hinged or its just not worth it and should operate as single screen when closed or forget it Apple Brown Betty.

by Anonymousreply 49April 21, 2025 8:17 AM

The iPad mini is 8.3" screen.

An iPhone Pro Max has dimensions of 3.06x6.42, so two of them would have a screen size of 8.87 - slightly larger than the iPad mini.

it's hard to tell for certain, but the foldable looks smaller than a mini from the pix.

by Anonymousreply 50April 21, 2025 8:34 PM

I bought a foldable Motorola Razr at a reasonable price. I forward my calls to it when I go out. It fits nicely in my pocket and opens to just about the same size as my iPhone 16 when need be.

by Anonymousreply 51April 21, 2025 9:39 PM

Apparently it’s going to have the best display on a foldable that money can buy.

I'm not living through Trump fascism and shelling out so I can swipe through the downfall of democracy on some pricey gadget that puts more money in Tim Apple's pockets. This is so dystopian. I'm trying to not look at my phone as much and keep it off and out of site in the evenings. The days of scrolling through Twitter for silly memes about "Cheeto Hitler" are long gone. I'm checking out, not doubling down.

by Anonymousreply 53May 8, 2025 11:53 AM

I have an iPhone and an iPad. I use the phone when I need to for calls and texts (as little as possible tbh) but I use my iPad constantly. I love that iPad and would list it with my 19 yo cat, passport and wallet as the things I would save in a fire.

However, I would never buy one of these foldable things. There isn't one realistic or honest reason for anyone having one of these. Completely unnecessary on any level and any vacuous cunt that buys it needs their head read. This device is just a cash grab from Apple for stupid people - pure and simple - and that's on top of all their other cash grabs like changing the device charging cord input so we have to constantly purchase new cords and not supplying chargers with recent products. I hate Apple with a burning passion but unfortunately I love my fucking iPad. Otherwise I would ditch them altogether.

by Anonymousreply 54May 8, 2025 1:15 PM

My blood runs cold, my memory has just been sold, my iPhone is a centerfold.

by Anonymousreply 55May 8, 2025 1:17 PM

I feel like these are the future. Just not with the technology currently used because it's still too prone to cracking.

by Anonymousreply 56May 8, 2025 1:30 PM

Did nobody else notice the time on the device at OP’s pic?

by Anonymousreply 57May 8, 2025 2:22 PM

My partner would love a foldable, but a Google Pixel. Fortunately he breaks or loses his mobiles with a frequency that convinces him that it's a bad idea relative the cost. I don't have to say a word.

He likes them the foldables not because, even with eyeglasses, he has to have the latest tech but because he is always enlarging any bit of text or image he wants to study. The preference makes some practical sense for him.

Every foldable I have seen has a distinctly visible crease when both halves are laid flat. That would bother me to no end.

by Anonymousreply 58May 8, 2025 2:40 PM

Yeah, I'd also like to get the Pixel one, even though the regular Pixel phones are much better in all the reviews I've read. Those seven years of Android updates sound really good.

by Anonymousreply 59May 8, 2025 3:17 PM

Folding phones suck. I had a Galaxy Fold for six months before I got rid of it. Too bulky, too heavy, too fragile. The outer screen was too narrow to be usable; the inner screen was nice, but it displayed apps strangely because they weren't optimized for the increased screen real estate.

They're just a gimmick to distract from every "new" phone being only a small upgrade over last year's model.

by Anonymousreply 60May 8, 2025 3:28 PM

[quote]They're just a gimmick to distract from every "new" phone being only a small upgrade over last year's model.

Nailed it.

by Anonymousreply 61May 8, 2025 3:29 PM

Honestly, anyone who would pay $2500 for an iPhone is NUTS.

by Anonymousreply 62May 8, 2025 3:36 PM

Literally none of these problems will apply to the iPhone Fold. You should’ve waited for Apple to get it right.

by Anonymousreply 63May 8, 2025 6:07 PM

I've often wondered what it must be like to be a willing cumslut to a corporation, like r63 seems to be.

by Anonymousreply 64May 8, 2025 7:42 PM

Who said I was willing?

by Anonymousreply 65May 8, 2025 11:14 PM

You've got your tongue firmly inserted in Apple's asshole like a cult member R65.

by Anonymousreply 66May 8, 2025 11:26 PM

R66 can you form a sentence without using such tasteless, crude language? Why are you Apple haters always morose vulgarians?

by Anonymousreply 67May 8, 2025 11:41 PM

Where, exactly, do you think you are R67? At a christian mom's crochet group meeting?

by Anonymousreply 68May 9, 2025 5:54 AM

If you have to save up $2500 you failed in life.

by Anonymousreply 69May 9, 2025 6:01 AM

We've reached peak absurdity with these things. Hardly anyone uses the tech that supposedly justifies the cost of these phones (even if they were priced at android prices rather than the "Apple tax"). Most people use their phones for texts, taking pics/vids, and basic web browsing/candy crush level of game playing/watching youtube vids. Put a decent camera on a shitty phone and that would be plenty for 90+% of iPhone users. And now they've found a way to get idiots to move up to the $2500 range for their phones. I can't blame them for taking money from dumb fucks, I guess.

For actual work, you need a laptop. To relax and read or watch a movie, you need a laptop and/or an iPad or other tablet. Spending tons on your phone is some dumb shit. But Apple has people doing it.

by Anonymousreply 70May 9, 2025 6:08 AM

[quote]We've reached peak absurdity with these things. Hardly anyone uses the tech that supposedly justifies the cost of these phones (even if they were priced at android prices rather than the "Apple tax").

Of course, mobiles provide things well beyond the need/desire of users. At the same time, what is better value than a mobile? It sits in the owner's hand or within reach practically all hours of the day, it's an alarm clock, a phone, a calendar, a map good wherever you go, a communications center, a TV, a music library, a games center for some, a sophisticated camera, and it provides thousands of hours of research/fact-finding/diversion. Consider the cost against the hours of use and it's a relative bargain, even at the proposed price of the foldable iPhone.

If all you want is the equivalent of a (now obsolete?) Jitterbug phone, you can get some serious change back from a 50. If you want something with a screen worthy of photos and images, you can get something for 100 that more than does all the list you list, "for texts, taking pics/vids, and basic web browsing/candy crush level of game playing/watching youtube vids." Bring the price up to 200 and you have a camera as sophisticated as everybody else had two or three years ago.

Why is it a surprise that in a world where people pay extravagant amounts of money on clothes and accessories that cost many thousands, that someone might want a 2500 foldable iPhone. Of course they do. If they will pay 1000 for a Balenciaga "Gaffers Tape bangle" bracelt, there's no question that people will pay more than they *need* to do for ridiculous things. Why expect everyone to have a jazzed up Jitterbug when a mobile has become an absolute necessity for much of the world?

by Anonymousreply 71May 9, 2025 9:58 AM

Man, FUCK Apple. I'm 100% Android. I paid $2300 for the Fold 6 and will NEVER pay that much for a phone again.

I was in a vulnerable place at the time.

by Anonymousreply 72May 9, 2025 10:08 AM

Calm down.

by Anonymousreply 73May 9, 2025 1:07 PM

I guess a lot of you don’t use your phone while walking? I do and this would just be way too awkward.

by Anonymousreply 74May 9, 2025 1:17 PM

R74 Yeah I used to use my phone while walking but I got tired of being hit by cars and tripping on curbs.

by Anonymousreply 75May 9, 2025 1:29 PM

r71, yes, I'm aware what people use them for. All those features can be found in the cheaper smartphones for a couple of hundred, which was my point even though I didn't list all the features. Only a handful will actually use apps and games on the phone that require the higher end processors, RAM, etc. that Apple brags about.

I'm coming at this from a practical tech angle. I get putting a lot of money into a laptop or desktop if you're doing video editing, playing the latest games, etc. Expensive phones don't make much practical sense to me for the vast majority of people.

I do get that it's about the "brand". You're paying to show off your Apple even though a 400 dollar Samsung would do. I think that's dumb, but no question people do it.

by Anonymousreply 76May 9, 2025 2:01 PM

[Quote] [R74] Yeah I used to use my phone while walking but I got tired of being hit by cars and tripping on curbs.

Neither of which is very likely to happen on the trail I walk on. You tried.

by Anonymousreply 77May 9, 2025 2:24 PM

People who say "you tried" remind me of the kids on the playground yelling "poopyhead!"

It's getting quite tired; it's the sibling of "I said what I said."

by Anonymousreply 78May 9, 2025 4:09 PM

[R78] Yes….very much like what Gamby would say on Vice-Principals. Or any Danny McBride series for that matter.

Not interested anwyay. I mostly use my phone in portrait mode for texts, calls, emails, etc. Seems a bit cumbersome to flip it on its side most of the time and feels too similar to an iPad.

by Anonymousreply 83May 10, 2025 10:51 AM

Apparently it has a normal-sized iPhone screen on the outside of the device when it’s closed which would allow you to do all of that, R83.
