Anybody watching? I have Amazon Prime where you can watch the first episode free. I try to cut down on my streaming budget so I don't have Apple TV now.
Your Friends & Neighbors on Apple TV starring Jon Hamm

I have an apple sub but haven’t used it much. I watched Severance on it most recently. This show doesn’t really cry out to me. Finance manipulators resorting to theft to get by? So relatable!

I’ve watched the first three episodes. I thought the first one was awful and really dragged—I put it on 1.5 speed to finish it. Since I always gives shows at least 2 episodes, I watched the second one which was much better but still not great. I just finished episode 3 and found it to be a slog again. There’s really no one to root for and the show doesn’t really seem to know what it wants to be about. It also doesn’t really have much of anything interesting to say about the things it’s trying to be about. The opening credits are great though.

R2. Thank you for the info. Will skip it unless Jon Hamm drops by with his dick hanging out and asks me to watch with him.

I was molested by a neighbor who smelled like ham.🍖

What r2 said. My partner watches everything on Apple TV and I was kind of interested in this one, but it's not fun like Palm Royale or edgy or much of anything. It is too enamored with the life it's trying to critique.

There is definitely a lifestyle porn element, r5. Jon Hamm's character looks down on everyone but the show really salivates over money and status. I still think it's entertaining.

The set design is pretty cheap looking, though.

I enjoyed it, but I love soap operas. The cast is good. It’s a bit repetitive and mostly features Jon Hamm Jon Hamming.

I actually liked the first episode and thought the main characters and situation were well set up. And I find Jon Hamm even sexier now with a bit more poundage and wrinkles and we certainly get to see a lot of it in hot tubs, swimming pools and beds. His self-deprecatory swagger is fun.
But in the second episode, and especially the third, it rather quickly lost its way and as stated above, doesn't seem to know what it wants to be about plot-wise or what it's satirizing. Or who we're to be rooting for. Many of the friends and neighbors seem too young and generic for their roles. Or maybe it's that the camera isn't allowing them to become established enough as individuals.
I could really do with less about his screwed-up kids and sister. My favorite character is the scruffy older lady who is Hamm's fence for the wristwatches he steals from his neighbors, played by Randy Danson (an early first wife of Ted's) who brings a nice unsavoriness to the bland proceedings.
I was surprised to hear that a second season has already been ordered.

R8 Thanks for that description.
“Jon Hamm Jon Hamming” is the perfect description of a show I will dislike. Hard pass.

I watched the first 20 minutes and checked out. You could tell it would be a slog.

I just watched the first 3 episodes. Yes, the first episode is the setup episode. It explains the "why" and "how". I am enjoying the entire cast. The sister played by Lena Hall, is a great, complex character and she has an amazing voice and plays guitar well. (Of course she won a Tony so I'm not surprised) The son is also an interesting character, I feel really bad for him as he thinks he's invisible in life, a quiet person, compared to the hot, competitive sister. You can sort of see why the kids are the way they are. I didn't really like how they had a different actress in the setup of the early marriage, and then sprung Amanda Peet on us. I like Amanda but she is different looking. I don't buy her with basketball guy - why wouldn't he go get a young gal. She isn't happy with her new life, either so that's interesting as well. This is the best thing I've seen Jon in besides MM and that crazy cult leader role he played. I *am* relating to him because he admits he was a cocky SOB and "one of those assholes" and now he is seeing just how far removed from his life, he is. What did he work for? What did it amount to, not much. How it plays out with him and Olivia Munn's character, we'll see. I do love Randy Danson in her role, pistol packin' mama! Olivia looks great, kudos to her. Amanda Peet must be green with envy.

I'm old enough to know who Randy Danson is (and appreciate her) but have no idea who Olivia Munn is (and am not engaged by her in this).

It is going to slow, I agree. And there needs to be more drama. I suppose the owner of the Patek is going to come to heads with Hamm's character about the watch and the stolen SATs and which daughter gets into Princeton. Hamm's family are not heroes. I like Lou, the fence, and we need to see more of her. If they want a couple seasons they have to get Lou and her underworld quite involved. I'm surprised both parents are chill with the 20yo fucking their daughter. Yeah she's 17 but still.

I wouldn’t have thought one show could withstand both Amanda Peet AND Olivia Munn.

What might I know Olivia Munn from? She's not familiar to me.
Funny, I know Amanda Peet but can't really remember why.

R16 - Olivia Munn is married to John Mulaney as was on The Newsroom and in X-Men Apocalypse. She was also a correspondent on The Daily Show in 2010-ish era.
Amanda Peet is an early-aughts actress, from The Whole Nine Yards, Saving Silverman, Brockmire, and Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story (which she was superb in).

He shows his feet a lot for those who get real horny when men prop their feet up on coffee tables and relax.

Somehow, I knew the Latina housekeeper would become a bigger role in this mess. Do you think she'll fuck the Jon Hamm character before it's over?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 26, 2025 9:11 PM |
I found it very boring. Not a huge Jon Hamm. His acting is very limited.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 26, 2025 10:41 PM |
I think his crazy sister will eventually get involved. She's more interesting than Jon Hamm's character.

Amanda Peet has had incredible face work. She looked pretty but haggard in dirty John over 2 decades ago. She is 53. She is married to David Benioff, novelist, screenwriter, producer, co producer of Game of Thrones. Fabulously wealthy, son of a former head of Goldman Sachs. And he was very sexy in his 30s when Peet married him. Lucky gal.
