Trumpism as a vehicle for Marx’s creative destruction: could it be the necessary evil for the rise of democratic socialism?

I think the ground is shifting.

I feel the earth move under my feet.

It's a big stretch from being anti-Trump to being an effective proponent of democratic socialism, which Bernie no longer seems to be and I'm not sure AOC ever was.

I was molested by a trumpet player.

It would take a shift as big as 2016 and I hope it happens, but I’d be very surprised since the entire west has shifted right.

They want the 1950s and they aren’t going to let that go. They vote against their own interest through ignorance or to “own the libs.” If Dear Leader fails it will be someone else’s fault. They have drank too much Kool-Aid.

Democratic socialists are just as bad as MAGA Republicans. AOC and Bernie are fucking scam artists.

I would love a (democratic) socialist solution, but I don't know if it's a reality. America has an ingrained culture of competition and individualism, which is only increasing over time with the increased population. This is likely because global capitalism is buckling under rent-seeking, as a feature, not a bug. Eventually it will destroy itself as our economy stretches too far and snaps. But that might take another century of increasing wealth inequality, and people almost NEVER act in the collective (or oft even the individual's) best interest without coercion. It's a nasty knot that can't be untangled easily. Good luck to us.

[quote]AOC and Bernie are fucking scam artists.

oh please this is dumb. They're not scamming anyone and they're not socialists.

The democrats won't do shit to change the oligarchy when they eventually get back into power.

by Anonymousreply 8April 17, 2025 1:10 AM

Oh, Christ, these two fools.

What could be a less purposeful theatrical antic than a rally in Idaho? Two of the most Dem-hating, legislatively empty egos in one place. Bizarrely, people think this is very effective! At what? Trump NEVER WOULDA WON without the treachery of Bernie Sanders. plus one of the least effective members of Congress who voted WITH REPUBLICANS more times and against her own caucus under Biden than probably any other Democratic House member!

Honestly, when I see AOC, Bernie or Michael Moore, I stop watching!

by Anonymousreply 9April 17, 2025 1:25 AM

If AOC runs for the Dem nomination in 2028, she will flop hard in many states. A lot of Dems are going to remain moderate or liberal.
