The Republican Party will effectively be dead after Trump’s second term

I was watching Mary Trump‘s podcast on YouTube today, and yet again protests are breaking out at Republican town halls over everything that’s going on. What’s even more shocking is that you are seeing more and more white country people getting angry about the man trapped in El Salvador, and demanding that he be brought home. White bumpkins, whom you may have thought are racist, are angry that a Latino man is having his human rights disregarded. This IS a human rights abuse. This is kidnapping and human trafficking, and I’m actually starting to think that we’re seeing the final death throes of the Republican Party.

With every new horrible thing that the Trump administration does, Republicans in Congress just sit there and let him do whatever he wants. The Trump administration is lying and saying that the Supreme Court voted in their favor. Anger is boiling over, even among the people who voted for him. And you KNOW that when Trump is not granted his third term in 2028 and/or a Democrat beats him, there will be chaos and violence. And the optics of THAT, which Republicans will do nothing to stop, are going to be the final nail in the coffin.

The entire Trump administration is going to end up in prison.

I want this to be true but while we have been hoping and praying this will come to pass, Donald Trump has somehow become THE dominant political figure of our lifetimes.

by Anonymousreply 1April 16, 2025 8:34 PM

Nope. He will throw these dumb asses a bone and they will come running back.

by Anonymousreply 2April 16, 2025 8:34 PM

The torture porn pictures with Noem (or however the hell her name is spelled) sporting her $50,000 Rolex will go down as some of the worst images in this nation's history. They are beyond grotesque.

by Anonymousreply 3April 16, 2025 8:37 PM

Oh, wait. Suddenly the republic party and it's fat fuck leader will be held responsible for the crimes of the last 20 or so years. Got it, because it's happened...never.

Did you wander over here from The Democratic Underground?

OP, you certainly are a hopeful individual, and I commend you for that. But I am right this minute watching (after all these years) a 1980 movie called Playing for Time, which was filmed just north of my hometown. That's more like the future I see for us.

Keep hoping, though!

by Anonymousreply 5April 16, 2025 8:42 PM

I think OP is underestimating how full of hate and resentment Republican voters are. They will vote for the next version of Trump just to stick it to women, gays, blacks and Jews.

by Anonymousreply 6April 16, 2025 8:46 PM

R6 I don’t know that that’s necessarily true. Like I said in my original post, even white country people are starting to be horrified by this man wrongly sent to El Salvador. What this means is that they see his humanity. Things are so unbelievably fucking bad right now that people are starting to open their eyes and change their minds.

by Anonymousreply 7April 16, 2025 8:48 PM

No it won’t. Just because some people protest at town halls doesn’t mean they will vote for Dems. Dems get protesters at their town halls too.

Don’t ever underestimate the stupidity of Americans.

by Anonymousreply 8April 16, 2025 8:52 PM

NOW a warning about Dump? They voted for him 3 times now but they're finally getting a clue?

by Anonymousreply 9April 16, 2025 8:53 PM

[quote] The Republican Party will effectively be dead after Trump’s second term

That’s right! They’re doomed!

by Anonymousreply 10April 16, 2025 9:01 PM

R6, there is no politician on earth who can replace what Trump means to these people. There will be no one next after him, like him.

by Anonymousreply 11April 16, 2025 9:02 PM

SHOULD in theory, but I don't think we are that lucky.

by Anonymousreply 12April 16, 2025 9:02 PM

There have been so many "final nails" I can't even count.

by Anonymousreply 13April 16, 2025 9:02 PM

Just because YOU made an anecdotal observation about the mood of white country people doesn't mean it's going to change anything, r7.

by Anonymousreply 14April 16, 2025 9:05 PM

No the Republican Party will not be dead after Trump's second term.

The Republican Party and the MAGAt culture it spread won't be dead until all of the MAGAts have been deprogrammed and "de-Trumped," just like Germans had to be deprogrammed and denazified. The GOP is now a cult, a cult of Trump, and they're not simply going to disappear or go quietly into that good night. To do that, they'd have to admit they were wrong, and cultists never, ever admit to being wrong.

by Anonymousreply 15April 16, 2025 9:26 PM

Of course I want OP to be correct, and my intuition is that the Garcia case is chief amongst several recent breakthrough events. Maybe the shift is beginning.

Still, it's wrong to assume that, even in the reddest of districts, an auditorium full of angry voters is necessarily full of angry Trump voters. A district that goes 65-35 for Trump still has more than enough Democrats and independents to fill a townhall, and those people aren't going to look or sound any different from the Trumpers that surround them -- i.e., if it's a white rural district they'll have the same white rural affect that we associate with MAGA, but in fact they never were MAGA.

So contrary to R8, who said that just because people protest at town halls doesn't mean they'll vote for Dems, I'd caution that just because people are protesting at in MAGA districts doesn't mean they're disgruntled MAGAs. If, however, they're people who were previously unengaged or afraid to speak up, the protests are still significant.

by Anonymousreply 16April 16, 2025 9:29 PM

While the protests and courts trying to uphold the rule of law are a positive sign, Trump voters need a minimum of around six months to a year of this chaos before we know whether anti-Trump sentiment is really taking hold. They need to see and feel the consequences they brought on themselves.

Trump voters can't be trusted at all right now. I wouldn't put is past them to lie to pollsters, disrupt town hall meetings, infiltrate protests or claim to be Democrats if it would end up benefiting Donald Trump. Remember, we are dealing with a cult rather than the good 'ol days of Democrats and Republicans arguing over policies and platforms.

by Anonymousreply 17April 16, 2025 9:30 PM

"Trump voters need a minimum of around six months to a year of this chaos before we know whether anti-Trump sentiment is really taking hold."

Wrong. They're in a cult, R17. They will never, ever come around because they will have to admit they were wrong, and cultists and their leaders like DJT never, ever admit they are or were wrong. That's why the future of this country is so bleak now. Trump will destroy the United States and the MAGAts will happily go along with it.

by Anonymousreply 18April 16, 2025 9:39 PM

Well, maybe not. I guess people love chaos.

by Anonymousreply 19April 16, 2025 9:45 PM

I wonder. I hope you are right, but there have been so many terrible, disgusting events JUST in this chaotic second term, and I am not so sure that some of the hardcore cult will ever give up on him, or even admit that just MAYBE this isn't the America we all signed up for. I have two across the street form me who still have their trump flag up - these are the ones who will lose their SS, Medicare, and life savings, and be shaking a tin cup on the corner and wearing maga hats. Lately I have truly lost hope for this country.

by Anonymousreply 20April 16, 2025 9:46 PM

Trump will be able to drag out that "short-term pain" forever. Short term is relative. Does that mean a couple of months setting us up for a better year. Or does that mean a painful four years to set up the next generation? It could mean anything allowing him to not to have to live up to any of his promises because its all part of the growth.

by Anonymousreply 21April 16, 2025 9:50 PM

Let's face it. If there's even a whiff, a teeny tiny whiff of that latino man being even a little sympathetic to Trump or MAGA, the majority of DL would be celebrating him being sent to that prison.

by Anonymousreply 22April 16, 2025 9:54 PM

The MAGA population is about 30% of the voting population total. That is not anywhere close to being the majority. I’m not saying it’s not alarming, but all you need is enough independents and centrists to be against him to vote out his ilk.

by Anonymousreply 23April 16, 2025 9:54 PM

Don’t worry ..while Repubs are in a tailspin David Hogg etc. will make sure Dems can’t benefit, Remember Dems excel at losing.

by Anonymousreply 24April 16, 2025 10:18 PM

Never in your wildest fucking dreams could you ever have more and bigger balls than David Hogg, asshole @R24.

by Anonymousreply 25April 16, 2025 10:33 PM

[quote] Like I said in my original post, even white country people are starting to be horrified by this man wrongly sent to El Salvador.

We wanted him to be racist and xenophobic but not THAT racist and xenophobic!

by Anonymousreply 26April 16, 2025 10:34 PM

OP, they still believe he was a gang member, unless Fox spoon feeds them anything different, they think this is all over a dangerous gang member 🙄.

by Anonymousreply 27April 16, 2025 11:09 PM

A lot of Republican voters are actually leftists and new deal democrats who are utterly confused by their media and cultural environment. If you just have good policy messaging, a left wing economic policy is the most popular possible policy platform in the country.

by Anonymousreply 28April 16, 2025 11:19 PM

[quote]a 1980 movie called Playing for Time, which was filmed just north of my hometown. That's more like the future I see for us.

Then you’re a hysterical idiot. Comparing yourself to Holocaust victims is so gross as you sit on your ass commenting on Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 29April 16, 2025 11:20 PM

You’re a fool if you think Trumps second term will ever end.

by Anonymousreply 30April 16, 2025 11:33 PM

R30 He’s in his late 70s and he ain’t gonna live forever.

by Anonymousreply 31April 16, 2025 11:38 PM

r29 You might want to check your own hysteria, based on your reaction in that comment.

by Anonymousreply 32April 16, 2025 11:45 PM

[quote] I was watching Mary Trump‘s podcast on YouTube today

You truly are a sucker. Quit listening to these stupid talking heads and step into reality. MAGA is going to be with us for a very long time. The country is completely brainwashed.

by Anonymousreply 33April 16, 2025 11:49 PM

David Hogg will help seize defeat from the jaws of victory. Trust me on that one. I can see the progressives he’ll recruit to challenge musty old timers…main issues..transphobia,,genocide in Gaza, reparations and how to adequately represent the nonbinary.

The Republicans are probably wetting themselves with excitement.

by Anonymousreply 34April 16, 2025 11:51 PM

R29, I'd rather be safe than sorry -- perhaps you think everything's going to be just fine and dandy in the good ol' U.S. of A.?

You can call me an idiot as much as you like, but at least I'm not hopelessly naive.

[quote]you sit on your ass commenting on Datalounge.

BTW, I'm gonna guess that even you, as perfect as you are, sit on your ass commenting on DL. But that doesn't mean that you can't be on a plane to El Salvador in a month or two wearing your pink triangle.

by Anonymousreply 35April 17, 2025 2:39 AM

Look at how conservative 18-21 year olds in the US are.

The R's will profoundly mutate post Trump but they're not going anywhere

by Anonymousreply 36April 17, 2025 2:42 AM

That's what they said after Trump's first term.

The problem is - people forget almost everything after 2-3 years. Same thing happened with George Bush II - you have to remind them of all the shit that happened.

by Anonymousreply 37April 17, 2025 2:45 AM

And here's a quote from the NYT:

[quote]Appellate judges in the case warned that the administration’s position represented a “path of perfect lawlessness” and would mean “the government could send any of us to a Salvadoran prison without due process.”

by Anonymousreply 40April 17, 2025 3:24 AM

[quote]Anger is boiling over, even among the people who voted for him.

Polls:

CBS News.... 4/8 - 4/11.... approval 47%

Harvard-Harris.... 4/9 - 4/10.... approval 48%

Economist/YouGov.... 4/13 - 4/15.... approval 45%

At the moment his approval rating is not exactly horrible.

The only real thing that will turn things around are a depression of enormous magnitude, or a draft. I can see either being possible, but todays youth are NOT made of the same stuff that previous generations were (and they didn't fare well after combat induced PTSD or damage from nerve gases) due to all of the coddling and constant disconnected-connection to everyone and no one through a screen. Even if they are seen out in groups, they're all on their phones, rarely interacting. This generation that supports him are his infantry. Ironic thing is that while young women openly despise the current state of things, they're not subject to a draft, especially in active combat, (tech support at best, but less than a 20/80 split in demographics).

A depression is inevitable but the masses will turn when they've lost everything they hold dear, the toys, big vehicles, homes, and if their parents get screwed a reverse mortgage could leave many into desperate situations they'd never imagined. By that point there will be the possibility of a revolution.

by Anonymousreply 42April 17, 2025 4:12 AM

R41 wait until the recession hits.

by Anonymousreply 43April 17, 2025 6:33 PM

Hope isn’t enough and that’s all we have.

by Anonymousreply 44June 16, 2025 3:57 AM

He’s down to 36%.

by Anonymousreply 45June 16, 2025 4:20 AM

Very few people willing to admit or realize MAGA’’s are ruthless haters and criminals who cannot be reasoned with and are the equivalent of Hitler’s nazis. They're taking over our country as we sleep and we don’t have many to no options..

by Anonymousreply 46June 16, 2025 4:35 AM
