James Brolin shared some of the secrets to his long-lasting marriage to Barbra Streisand.
During a Tuesday, April 15 appearance on the Today show, the 84-year-old actor was asked about his relationship with the 82-year-old Funny Girl star. The couple has been together for 29 years after being introduced on a blind date in July 1996. They exchanged vows two years later.
How have they managed to stay together this long?
"The best investment we’ve ever made is our mattress," Brolin said. "And don’t misunderstand me. We’re both lazy. We love to sleep late. We do a lot of our work on the phone, on paper, reading, right next to each other."
Brolin shared another trick that has helped them keep their love strong. "You learn to take a walk. Both of us, not just me! I just think you gotta say, ‘Okay, take a deep breath, take a walk,' " he explained.
He continued: "Because animals do the same thing, you know? Humans do it to each other, animals do it to each other."
Before meeting in the '90s, Streisand had previously been married to Elliott Gould between 1963 and 1971. Brolin was previously attached to Jan Smithers and Jane Cameron Agee. After meeting in July 1996, the couple tied the knot exactly two years after they met on July 1, 1998.
Streisand celebrated her anniversary with a sweet post on Instagram in July 2024. "28 years today since we met honey… and 26 years today since we married!" she gushed, adding, "Love you. B ❤️."
This is not the first time that Brolin has shared similar advice about maintaining a strong relationship.
"I think everybody needs to be a negotiator," he told PEOPLE in September 2022. "Everybody needs to have patience and know when to take a walk."
