Miley’s new single is…actually pretty good?

I get Fleetwood Mac/ABBA vibes, particularly in the backing vocal arrangements. The production is great. Miley sounds great. And for once a recent single doesn’t have lyrics that annoy me. What say you, DL?

Song is awesome, I just wish someone else sang it instead of her. I've never been able to warm up to her voice – to me she sounds like a lounge singer who's been abusing their voice their whole life – plus those oversized veneers give her a slight lisp. And you're spot on with your FM/ABBA observation.

In any case, this song should be gaining more traction than that Flowers song did.

No other thoughts on the DL about Miley?

by Anonymousreply 3April 14, 2025 7:56 PM

Miley is VERY talented.

And I absolutely love the tone of her voice, and her song choices.

I think the fact that she is a former Disney Kid (Hannah Montana) and that she has had a lot of personal drama, not to mention her trashy dad Billy Ray Cyrus, has caused people to discount her talent.

But if people would just put all of that stuff aside and appreciate Miley the artist, they would see that she's one of the best female artists in the industry today.

I like it. It’s both melancholic and uplifting

by Anonymousreply 5April 14, 2025 9:13 PM

I like it, OP.

by Anonymousreply 6April 14, 2025 9:15 PM

Nothing memorable.

And when will she get over this "I'm the new Tina Turner!" phase?

by Anonymousreply 7April 14, 2025 9:26 PM

I like it. Don't like the video. Sounds like it could be made into a good remix.

But who knew Flowers would be such a hit?

by Anonymousreply 8April 14, 2025 9:35 PM

This is not the song of the summer

by Anonymousreply 9April 14, 2025 9:41 PM

Big Miley fan. Great vocalist and someone who knows her musical history. The other tracks released ahead of this album are surprisingly experimental for a “pop” star.

by Anonymousreply 10April 14, 2025 9:46 PM

I hate the unnecessary question mark. I see it on reddit and it makes the person's writing look like it has upspeak.

by Anonymousreply 11April 14, 2025 9:54 PM

Love Miley.

by Anonymousreply 12April 14, 2025 10:53 PM

That upspeak question mark? You find it annoying? Miley's new single is pretty good? I'm having fried chick for dinner? Spring is finally here?

by Anonymousreply 13April 14, 2025 11:00 PM

Better than Flowers

by Anonymousreply 14April 15, 2025 2:29 AM

I like it!

I am not a fan per se, but I like her attitude and I also like her voice. The huskiness is unusual for a pop star, especially someone her age. Whether it's a result of smoking/drugs or bad vocal technique, I don't care—I like a bit of grit in a voice. I loved the song she recorded for "The Last Showgirl".

Fun song - and I love her voice.

Miley fell into my graces when she covered "Doll Parts" a few years ago. Nobody can really sing that song like '90s Courtney Love (all that natural raw anger/sadness just beams through her every word), but Miley's version was respectable.

[quote] This is not the song of the summer

I'd disagree... and the large number of Trump/El Salvador/Political posts here would probably disagree with you too. Oh wait... perhaps it would be better phrased "Let's NOT pretend it's the end of the world" 'cuz it is!

Also, yes to FM/ABBA vibes, but there's an element of her huskiness that is also giving me a healthy dose of Eartha Kitt.

Sounds like Paulina Rubio’s Mío

Just realized how much she resembles Amanda Lear.

by Anonymousreply 21April 15, 2025 9:06 AM

As soft porn it's great.

The song is 'meh' and she's clearly auto-tuned. That's a shame.

by Anonymousreply 22April 15, 2025 11:01 AM

Her voice is god awful

by Anonymousreply 23April 15, 2025 11:51 AM

I agree with R1. The song is good, but I just can't stand her voice. She can clearly sing well, but the timbre is sometimes grating.

by Anonymousreply 24April 15, 2025 2:35 PM

I dig it

Thanks, OP. I like it. I think it's B-tier compared to Flowers, though. I'm not the biggest Miley fan, but Flowers was so undeniable and one of the few 2020s pop songs that becomes inescapable, but has rightfully earned its ubiquity. This song feels a bit underbaked by comparison, though the reference points/influences are all lovely.

BTW, did Vaseline sponsor the video?

by Anonymousreply 27April 16, 2025 1:16 AM

My favorite is her live cover of Communication

Miley learned her yacht deck dance moves from Lindsay Lohan.
