I've Had Sufficient of Walton Goggins
I used to think he was a cool straight guy, this generation's offbeat leading man like Bruce Dern, taking on interesting projects.
Then he became everywhere: a million interviews, a million photoshoots, attempting to wax poetic but just sounding pompous. The repeated talk of him and Aimee Lou Wood being "soulmates," the endless analysis of his White Lotus character ... dude, you're just an actor and it's just a job.
But the final straw was his offscreen douchey wardrobe of unconstructed jackets worn over scoop-neck T-shirts like a Kohl's version of Miami Vice. Enough.
Yes, I've had sufficient of Walton Goggins.

All these neppies running around and A-listers starring in Sheridan's deplorable projects, and you've decided to attack Walton Goggins, really? Priorities, OP...

There’s a phenomenal solution to this crucial problem in your life, OP: stop consuming Walton Goggins media.
Problem solved! ✅

Goggins has been a hard working actor for many years and has always made whatever he’s in watchable, if not memorable. Let him enjoy his moment in the spotlight.

I agree, OP. Pretentious, pompous, and overexposed. And yes, he knows how to milk a relationship for PR!

[quote] I've had sufficient of White Lotus. Sick of all the threads, all the talk, enough already.
Then why would you voluntarily click into a thread devoted to an actor from “The White Lotus” and take the time and effort to comment that you’ve grown tired of anything “White Lotus” related?
That would seem either masochistic, moronic or desperate for attention. Maybe all three, R5?

And in case you didn't realize, Walton Goggins IS on other shows besides it.

I liked him in The Apostle (Robert Duvall's masterpiece) and he was great in The Shield. After that, not so much.

Hes a fantastic actor ,but lets be honest . Whatever looks he had are gone . With his talent he will never lack for work so that wont matter so much. Unless he gets ahead of himself, wich so many do,then self destruct.

White Lotus was my first intro to him, then I started watching Righteous Gemstones at the same time. On WL he didn't make much impact (stupid storyline), but I love him on RG.
My only beef with him are those gigantic veneers. Horsey.

R13 You should binge watch the other Danny McBride vehicle that costars Walton Goggins: Vice Principals. It's only two seasons, it's absolutely batshit crazy, funny as hell, and Walton acts like a Type A bossy bottom. He's just so, so, so damn funny. Only Danny McBride could create a show about rival vice principals and make it not just good, but entertaining, original and hilarious. Judy from Righteous Gemstones is in Vice Principals, too.
It's. So. Good!!!!!!

My first intro to Walter Goggins was D’jango Unchained. He spooked the shit out of me. Then Vice Principles which was hilarious and completely opposite.

I like The White Lotus but I need to not see or hear anything else from that cast until Emmy night in September. The overexposure is unbearable.

Goggins is also great as the voice of Cecil in “Invincible” on Amazon Prime.

I just binged VPs and agree with your assessment - absolutely nuts. Not a Walton line but when Neal says to Dr. Brown: “Brown of skin, silver of tongue…” I lost it.

R5 is an addict. He hates his addiction but unlike sane non addicts he is powerless to stay away from his addictions.
So he comes to DL and complains. He watched every bit of white lotus when most have not then he complains , he complains about having to read to many posts when most sane people don’t read any and of course he is so tired of all the talk.
Yet back on DL he will be wallowing talking posting and reading.
The life of an addict.

Gotta agree with the OP. I love the guy and have watched all his Danny McBride series’, (I skipped White Lotus this year, it just looked, boring). But he really ha become a little too Hollywood and “deep”.

R16 Awesome, No Palm! It's rare to meet another Vice Principals fan in the wild. I just rewatched recently for a second time. The ending is so poignant, at the food court at the mall, when they make eye contact...
Was the implication ithat they never kept in contact after that crazy intense chapter of their lives, after both of them almost dying and declaring their love and friendship to one another? I love that Russell ends up being a regional manager of some fictional mall teenybopper clothing chain called "Apricot Lane."
It's a perfect series.

Watch the Architectural Digest tour of his home. It's quite lovely (an old hunting lodge in the Catskills, I think) and it very much comes across as home and not some place where he just turned a designer loose with a big budget. He seems very earnest, but a bit of an oddball. I'm used to him in comedy roles (he's hilarious as Baby Billy on RG), but I thought he was also a very good as the damaged, asshole man-child on WL. You really bought that this guy was in pain & that's what kept his girlfriend with him, no matter how badly he treated her.

r22 I am a recovering alcoholic, however, I'm not really sure how that is relevant here. I would say I'm doing pretty well staying away from alcohol though, with a few months of sobriety under my belt. Thanks for bringing it up, though...it gives me a chance to pat myself on the back for the good job I'm doing :)
Now, to something salient: I have never watched White Lotus as I don't have HBO and have no plans to get it at this juncture. And, as you can see, I am not the only person who has complained about White Lotus and its overexposure on this thread. Since you may have snooped on me (given your assertion about addiction), you can surely see I'm not the only complainer here bitching about WL. I came to this thread to see what people's opinions were of Walton Goggins, not to bitch about WL.
Thanks for your armchair therapy session, though. You were incorrect about a few things, but you gave it the ol' college(?) try.

I want to see Goggins and Samuel L Jackson reteam again. They had great chemistry together in The Hateful Eight.
I always thought of Goggins as the White Samuel L. Jackson due to his performance in Justified .

R27
I questioned that look myself - at first I felt that they had already said their official goodbyes but for some reason, something inside me thought that perhaps they were still in touch. I don’t know, it was such a knowing glance without much surprise behind it. But they were so combustible together, I can’t imagine they can calmly go through their lives as just buddies. Loved it.

I love him and he makes everything he's in better. IIRC, he was a one-off character in Justified but he was so good that they kept him. There was a scene in The Shield where someone made a crack about his teeth. Now, those teeth are almost standard though his are ultra white.
I forgot about Vice Principals! Time for a re-watch. Danny McBride can also do no wrong. I'm fond of anyone who can make me laugh.

I hear he's made huge receding foreheads sexy again.

Does Danny McBride only do cartoonish? On advice of this thread, I started Vice Principals, which was great minus the cartoonishness of The Righteous Gemstones. Then in the middle of episode of 2, they destroy the new head principal's house. Cartoonish.
On topic: Goggins is good in it.

No, he only does over the top cartoonish that is so wrong and so funny at the same time. That's his brand r50, which it sounds like is not for you. East Bound and Down was just as hilarious too.
