WHET Natalie Merrchent?

OK, she had a Michael Stipes infection in the early 90s, but she generated great material afterwards.

I miss that out-of-a-well singing voice.

MERCHUNT!

by Anonymousreply 1April 12, 2025 2:02 PM

Ummmm

by Anonymousreply 2April 12, 2025 2:05 PM

So, you know her, R1.

Please share, Cunt.

by Anonymousreply 3April 12, 2025 2:05 PM

I'm sorry, but why not spell things correctly?

by Anonymousreply 4April 12, 2025 2:11 PM

She released a new album and went on tour supporting it. She still sells out just about every show playing medium sized theaters.

by Anonymousreply 5April 12, 2025 2:13 PM

OP is the legendary Brenda Dicks-On.

by Anonymousreply 6April 12, 2025 2:19 PM

I love her voice, and 10,000 Maniacs - I listen to the whole “In My Tribe” on the regular.

by Anonymousreply 7April 12, 2025 3:43 PM

OP here. I started the day with Natalie MurCHUNT and now I’m stuck on a Lea Michele kick.

Not ONE of you cunts clued me into her singing voice. I’m seriously pissed at you. It’s like you kept me out of the cool kids room.

Fuck every one of you!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 8April 13, 2025 2:40 AM

Assholes!

by Anonymousreply 9April 13, 2025 2:42 AM

Is she lez? I always thought she was lez but then was told she married a man. Those 90's female singer-songwriters could really throw off a lezdar.

by Anonymousreply 10April 13, 2025 3:00 AM

She's no Liza!

by Anonymousreply 11April 13, 2025 3:07 AM

I just jeaouls of her voice . Wonman has emasizingpipes.

by Anonymousreply 12April 13, 2025 3:11 AM

I’m a bitch!

by Anonymousreply 13April 13, 2025 3:19 AM

Assholes

by Anonymousreply 14April 13, 2025 3:32 AM

Natalie Merchant was, is and will always be a CUNT.

She was all earth mothery in 10,000 Maniacs but all that time she was a scheming little bitch. She tried to seduce Michael Stipe and when that didn't work they became little schemers together.....apparently the two of them were compared to several characters in Dangerous Liasions......just using people/pitting them against each other as playthings.

As for her music, she was the type of musician that did better work when around others who could filter her excessive bits and bad ideas out. She had one decent solo album and then the next one had that atrocity that was just her singing "Thank you, thank you" for 10 minutes, and everything else since sounds like a fucking funeral dirge.

by Anonymousreply 15April 13, 2025 3:45 AM

Morrissey hated her.

Maybe because she was cockblocking him from Michael Stripe.

by Anonymousreply 16April 13, 2025 4:03 AM

I loved a few 10,000 Maniacs songs. I couldn't care less about the pretentious lead singer.

by Anonymousreply 17April 13, 2025 4:31 AM

[quote]Noun. maroon (plural maroons) An escaped black person of the Caribbean and the Americas or a descendant of such a person.

Didn’t know it was a racist term.

by Anonymousreply 18April 13, 2025 5:05 AM

Her music was so fucking boring and her voice was so fucking irritating.

by Anonymousreply 19April 13, 2025 5:24 AM

Look on the bright side.

by Anonymousreply 20April 13, 2025 5:26 AM

Who is Michael Stipes?

by Anonymousreply 21April 13, 2025 5:32 AM

Her songs all sounded so similar to each other. The melody seemed limited to 4 or 5 notes only. The guitar tone was the same for every song.

by Anonymousreply 22April 13, 2025 7:03 AM

In recent years, she's developed a folky kind sound/image; I'd like to see her in concert in some small venue, not because she's such a great artists but her music takes me back to my college days

by Anonymousreply 23April 13, 2025 10:04 AM

Maroon is not a racist term. I would bet that 100% of the people who use it got it from Bugs Bunny (or whichever character it was in the Looney Tunes cartoon). Anything else is just reaching to be offended on behalf of others, White Savior style.

by Anonymousreply 24April 13, 2025 1:46 PM

I think she has a gorgeous voice and appreciate that she seems content to do the occasional recordings and tour, then fade back into her everyday life.

by Anonymousreply 25April 13, 2025 1:48 PM

This thread is as big a mess as Natalie herself.

by Anonymousreply 26April 13, 2025 1:55 PM

I would pay good money to see Stipe and Merchant in a Dangerous Liaisons remake.

by Anonymousreply 27April 13, 2025 1:59 PM

How did the “Maroon” discussion end up here?

In any event I always took it to be Bugs saying “Moron” incorrectly (the joke) and with a thick Brooklyn accent.

by Anonymousreply 28April 13, 2025 2:04 PM

Suzanne Vega beat her to death.

by Anonymousreply 29April 13, 2025 2:20 PM

There, OP, aren’t you glad you asked?

by Anonymousreply 30April 13, 2025 2:29 PM

I always thought that she resembled a young Gloria Vanderbilt.

by Anonymousreply 31April 13, 2025 2:35 PM

Anything Bugs says is all right with me!

Wow! She sold out a 4000 seat venue with two other artists!

by Anonymousreply 34April 13, 2025 3:25 PM

Her voice always annoyed the hell out of me.

by Anonymousreply 35April 13, 2025 3:29 PM

R29 she was sitting/in a diner/and beat Natalie/with a spatula

by Anonymousreply 36April 13, 2025 3:42 PM

11!

She was in a well?

by Anonymousreply 38April 13, 2025 4:52 PM

I sang in a well.

She sang about poison in the well.

by Anonymousreply 40April 13, 2025 5:09 PM

I followed her I'm sorry a few years ago through the Pacific Northwest starting in Spokane and Seattle and then Portland. But they ever show in Seattle though some guy messaged him grinder and he was God damn hot. And we had planned to meet up after the show however the show was just kind of blah because the venue sucked and I just didn't have the energy to deal with Seattle traffic and the cost either all the way to his hotel and then back to mine also having to leave very early in the morning to make it to Portland for the show the next night. I meant to save his messages though but eventually those got deleted and I just figured I would never hear from him again. I wasn't like you know broken up over it but I was disappointed that I gave up hanging out with that really hot dude and with lament it not saving those messages and then last night he messaged me and let me know he was coming to my City and wanted to see if I was available tonight so we're hooking up later.

by Anonymousreply 41May 21, 2025 1:47 AM

The Spokane and Portland shows however were phenomenal.

by Anonymousreply 42May 21, 2025 1:49 AM

I liked a handful of 10kM songs, knowing them because they were heavily played when I was in high school and college. But I never got deeply into them, and even less so Merchant as a solo artist. Someone on my floor in college used to play the Unplugged album and it was okay.

by Anonymousreply 43May 21, 2025 3:25 AM

She's put on some considerable poundage since her 'What's the Matter Here?' glory days.

by Anonymousreply 44May 21, 2025 6:44 AM

I’m a long time fan and had seen her with 10,000 Maniacs back in the 80’s.

She played in Fort Lauderdale in Spring 2023 with the release of her new album, Keep Your Courage. She filled the 2,700 seat Broward Center and the crowd really loved her

She played almost exclusively her new music and said she hoped people don’t judge her only on earlier albums or her music with 10,000. Maniacs. She seemed very proud of this new album and I thought the music which I’d never heard before but have played a lot since, is great.

She only sang a few of her hits interspersed and then at the very end.

She’s definitely the same old Natalie in terms of her social commitment. There had been a flood in Fort Lauderdale a few days before the concert and she donated all proceeds to local flood relief.
