‘Real Time’: Bill Maher Praises “Gracious & Measured” Trump After White House Dinner: “Not As F—ed Up As I Thought

“Lemme first say to all of the people who treated this like it was some kind of summit meeting, you’re ridiculous… like I was gonna sign a treaty or something,” he said. “I have no power, I’m a f—ing comedian, and he’s the most powerful leader in the world.

“I’m not the leader of anything, except maybe a contingent of centrist-minded people who think there’s got to be a better way to run this country than hating each other every minute,” added Maher.

Maher said he “never felt I had to walk on eggshells around him,” adding: “And honestly, I voted for Clinton and Obama, but I would never feel comfortable talking to them the way I was able to talk to Donald Trump. That’s just how it went down, make of it what you will.”

“I’m just reporting exactly what I saw over two and a half hours,” he noted. “I went into the mine, and that’s what’s down there. A crazy person doesn’t live in the White House. A person who plays a crazy person on TV a lot lives there, which I know is f—ed up. It’s just not as f—ed up as I thought it was.”

In addition to challenging him on topics like Iran, Gaza, the Syrian refugee crisis and his proposed third term, Maher said he heard Trump admit he lost the 2020 election.

“I don’t remember exactly what we were talking about but it must have been something about the 2020 election, because I know he used the word ‘lost,'” he recalled. “And I distinctly remember saying, ‘Wow, I never thought I’d hear you say that.’ He didn’t get mad. He’s much more self-aware than he lets on in public.”

Maher clarified he still doesn’t “have a good feeling” about the Trump administration “and will be critical about a lot of what he’s doing … But I also think he now understands that I have a job to do.”

He praised Trump for giving him a “generous amount of time, and a willingness to listen and accept me as a possible friend even though I’m not MAGA, which was the point of the dinner.”

“Trump was gracious and measured, and why he isn’t that in other settings, I don’t know and I can’t answer and it’s not my place to answer,” added Maher. “I’m just telling you what I saw, and I wasn’t high.”

Maher blows for even visiting Trump. "Oh, he was nice to me."

Trump is the most fucking evil, incompetent, lying criminal who ever sat in the White House. Trump deserves to have a fatal heart attack and die.

by Anonymousreply 1April 12, 2025 7:31 AM

R1 there is evil ever around - fundamental! System of government quite incidental.

by Anonymousreply 2April 12, 2025 7:33 AM

[quote]“I don’t remember exactly what we were talking about but it must have been something about the 2020 election, because I know he used the word ‘lost,'” he recalled. “And I distinctly remember saying, ‘Wow, I never thought I’d hear you say that.’ He didn’t get mad. He’s much more self-aware than he lets on in public.”

But that's the whole point you idiot, Bill -- even though Trump knows he lost the 2020 Election he put the United States through a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol because he lied to his supporters for months. And he also allowed election workers and people like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger to be subjected to death threats.

by Anonymousreply 3April 12, 2025 7:33 AM

Bill Maher is a successful media parasite, like Trump. Of course they like each other.

Stop listening/legitimizing Bill Maher and he goes away.

by Anonymousreply 4April 12, 2025 7:33 AM

Adios America

by Anonymousreply 5April 12, 2025 7:39 AM

And now my beauties, something with poison in it I think, with poison in it, but attractive to the eye and soothing to the smell . . . poppers, poppers, poppers

by Anonymousreply 6April 12, 2025 7:41 AM

Adolph Hitler wasn't so bad. He liked dogs.

by Anonymousreply 7April 12, 2025 7:55 AM

When he meets with Biden they will eat pudding together and talk about Joe s poor uncle who was eaten during ww2 by the hungry natives. Harris might not drop in but if she did they could talk about the need for sex change treatment for federal prisoners.

There is a lot of senility and stupidity in American politics.

by Anonymousreply 8April 12, 2025 8:52 AM

[quote]He’s much more self-aware than he lets on in public

So, Maher is surprised that Trump is a liar?

by Anonymousreply 9April 12, 2025 8:56 AM

did he shit during dinner? dump taking the dump, not the equally stupid sociopath bill maher, who could be at the age of incontinence as well, for all i know.

by Anonymousreply 10April 12, 2025 9:06 AM

What a coward Bil Maher is. Not a surprise. He's done this sort of thing before.

by Anonymousreply 11April 12, 2025 10:53 AM

Pathetic excuses from a weak spineless man who has never believed in anything other than his own enrichment. He was always going to kiss the boot.

by Anonymousreply 12April 12, 2025 12:05 PM

Don't ever trust a Baby Boomer.

by Anonymousreply 13April 12, 2025 12:08 PM

[quote]He was always going to kiss the boot.

I feel sure he kissed more than just the boot.

by Anonymousreply 14April 12, 2025 12:09 PM

Maher is a gullible fool who can't understand that con artists like Trump know with whom to put on a show.

by Anonymousreply 15April 12, 2025 12:14 PM

I said he’d be sane-washing him.

by Anonymousreply 16April 12, 2025 12:28 PM

What a self-regrading jerk Maher is. He thinks he's the only one who has experienced the Trump that Maher met?

Hillary Clinton herself has expressed how likable, even charming, Trump can be. But, unlike Maher, she had the smarts to know that's just another mirror in the Smoke and Mirrors bag of tricks.

If one of Maher's purposes in saying this was an attempt to get his haters to see Trump in a different light, he's succeeded.

This whole thing makes Trump and Maher even lower than the floor of the Mariana Trench where Trump already dwells.

Who gives a an At's Rass how likable Trump is in private?

Publicly, his act and actions are ACTUALLY HURTING AMERICANS.

Trump is a US President who sat there watching a TV screen that showed Capitol Police being beaten by his mob and never lifted a finger to stop it.

And that's just off the top of my pointy head.

Fuck you, Maher.

by Anonymousreply 17April 12, 2025 12:45 PM

Ooops - self-regarding^

by Anonymousreply 18April 12, 2025 12:46 PM

he was nice to ME, He was sane around ME, Don't be mad at ME, He's not as crazy as I thought because he was nice to ME

by Anonymousreply 19April 12, 2025 12:51 PM

I never could stand him. He seems like the kind of guy who would regularly request girls from Heidi Fleiss.

by Anonymousreply 20April 12, 2025 12:53 PM

[quote]Don't ever trust a Baby Boomer.

I also don't trust ignorant assholes who make sweeping stupid generalizations.

by Anonymousreply 21April 12, 2025 12:58 PM

[quote]“I have no power, I’m a f—ing comedian, and he’s the most powerful leader in the world.

Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Richard Pryor et al, moved and shaped the culture with their comedy. That's power.

[quote]“I’m not the leader of anything, except maybe a contingent of centrist-minded people who think there’s got to be a better way to run this country than hating each other every minute,”

Centrist minded people, by definition, would not seek common ground with an aspiring authoritarian or anyone using political power to restrict and remove the rights of others, the constitution that protects us all and the safety nets that support millions that need them and allow us our humanity. Centrists would not seek commonality with a criminal fascist who attempted to violently overturn the 2020 Presidential election.

Ergo, fuckball, you are no longer a "centrist"

[quote] That’s just how it went down, make of it what you will.

Will do.

[quote] “I’m just reporting exactly what I saw over two and a half hours,”

I thought you were just a comedian? Now you are a reporter? Journalism is adversarial, it requires you to be skeptical of everything you are seeing and hearing and requires you operate on the assumption the subject is attempting to manipulate your reaction to their benefit.

You are not a reporter, but all hope is not lost. Fox News awaits you.

[quote] I went into the mine, and that’s what’s down there.

You walked into a room. not a mine. There was an entry fee to that room.

[quote] A crazy person doesn’t live in the White House. A person who plays a crazy person on TV a lot lives there, which I know is f—ed up. It’s just not as f—ed up as I thought it was.

If you had half the mind you think you do, you would realize this is FAR worse reality. Think about that. He's KNOWINGLY and with presence of mind, destroying the foundations of this country not out of madness, but with intent. How is this good news. Is this you being "just the comedian" you claim to be or are you just a carrier pigeon?

Lastly, ALL of trumps cabinet from the previous administration have written or spoken about trumps mental limitations, his incompetence, his malignant ego and his abject lack of interest in anything and anyone other than himself. Everyone who has been around him has been diminished to one degree or another. But we are to take the word of "just a comedian" over the considered thoughts of those who served with and under him?

Lastly, Bill, here is the truth about your 2 and 1/2 hours with your new buddy trump. NO acting President of the United States, should make that amount of time, in the middle of several ongoing crisis moments (some completely of his own making) with a fucking comedian. Do you really think this time was freely given? You were expected to report as you did, and assist him in advancing his very dark and destructive agenda.

Trump's one true gift is the con. The first step in the con is gaining the CONfidence of the target ( in this case, YOU, just a comedian) Many people, perhaps people smarter even than you, have been fooled by trump in the step one process of the con with trump. But that's all it is. it's his only gift and he gave it to you freely.

for a price, that you will continue to pay.

by Anonymousreply 22April 12, 2025 1:40 PM

I genuinely think Maher was planning for this to be a private unadvertised visit but Kid Rock blew his plan. Now he has to spin for the Boomer liberal audience who are his bread and butter. Usually he can hide everything behind egotism and narcissism but even he seems defeated trying to spit this nonsense out.

by Anonymousreply 23April 12, 2025 1:47 PM

Sociopath tend to quite charming one on one. Hitler was also known to be a welcoming host.

by Anonymousreply 24April 12, 2025 1:49 PM

But did he smell? Does he really wear a diaper or have a colostomy bag?

by Anonymousreply 25April 12, 2025 1:50 PM

Go figure. Grampa Bill for last 10 years Trump was a gracious & meaured...

by Anonymousreply 26April 12, 2025 2:03 PM

I watched and then his first guest was Steve Bannon. Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 27April 12, 2025 2:46 PM

R22: spot on. Good analysis.

by Anonymousreply 28April 12, 2025 3:32 PM

Why did r22 disappear?

by Anonymousreply 29April 12, 2025 3:35 PM

Trumps one true gift is he is a master of media. He knows he is BOFFO Box office and corporate media will play along to get ratings mousee cliks and hence big $$$. Mutually benificial arrangment that is fatal to our democracy.

by Anonymousreply 30April 12, 2025 3:42 PM

combining the report on his visit with Orange Hitler with a guest spot to known criminal sociopath Bannon, was TOO MUCH.

by Anonymousreply 31April 12, 2025 3:46 PM

Which sock puppet is this, r8, and why don't you W/W yourself even *more*?

by Anonymousreply 32April 12, 2025 3:56 PM

Why dosen't anyone ever WW *me*?

by Anonymousreply 33April 12, 2025 4:06 PM

Thanks for reminding me r8 / r33

by Anonymousreply 34April 12, 2025 4:09 PM

One of Bill's distant relatives was a member of the International Red Cross that visited Theresienstadt and then issued a glowing report to the world about how well the Nazis were treating the Jews in their new homeland.

by Anonymousreply 35April 12, 2025 4:12 PM

There you go folks. r33 just gave herself 15 W/Ws. So Trumpian of you.

by Anonymousreply 36April 12, 2025 4:14 PM

Just because Trump was a charming host doesn’t mean he’s not a fucking fascist

by Anonymousreply 37April 12, 2025 5:08 PM

Yep, normalizing this fucking psycho is exactly what we’re looking for. I haven’t watched this asshole in years. Hope he loses his audience based of this bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 38April 12, 2025 5:29 PM

I’ve been trying to convince my liberal Boomer parents to stop watching this asshole’s useless grandstanding show for years as he becomes more and more misogynistic, transphobic & Islamophobic year after year…and this might finally be the thing that does it so I thank him for that.

by Anonymousreply 39April 12, 2025 5:33 PM

Spent more time with him than he thought?

I wonder if Bill had to give up his cell phone 'for security purposes' during this meeting - and it took a bit longer than they expected to install tracking software or to download all the data from his phone.

Trump doesn't give a FUCK about Bill Maher and knows some of the things he has said. He got himself trapped - and Maher's overblown ego is too stupid to realize it.

Trust me - there's going to be a lot more normalizing by Bill Maher now - for reasons that we don't see. Fool.

by Anonymousreply 40April 12, 2025 5:38 PM

Bill Maher continues his steady descent into obliviousness and irrelevance. Nice that he found T-Rump "gracious and measured," but who cares? To most of us his dismantling of the economy and national security are a bit more of a concern.

by Anonymousreply 41April 12, 2025 7:09 PM

I remember seeing a post on Instagram from Alex Lange a few years ago that he went to Bill Maher's show with his friends. He was probably 19 or 20. Maybe stop with all this equating boomers with Maher. He has a wider audience than that.

by Anonymousreply 42April 12, 2025 8:47 PM

This proves that Trump knows exactly what he is doing. He's sane but putting on a fool's cap for gullible Americans. Look at all those January 6 morons. Trump plays them like a maestro. My question is whether Maher pushed Trump on any of his nonsense: Super-Trooper parade, obsession with Biden/Obama/Hillary, the criminal charges against him, etc. Who the fuck can't be charming over a two hour meal in the White House? Maher asked NOTHING but swallowed everything.

by Anonymousreply 43April 12, 2025 10:07 PM

I hope his viewership drops to record lows and HBO cancels his shitty show.

by Anonymousreply 44April 12, 2025 10:12 PM

For me the quintessential Maher moment was years ago when he had Christiane Amanpour on (inter alios) and they were discussing where Osama bin Laden was (before he was found). They kept joking about him hiding out in a cave, and whenever Christiane Amanpour—trying to inject some actual information and commentary—would say "Actually he's not in a cave, it's thought that he's hiding in plain sight in a regular neighborhood," Maher and the other doofuses would cut her off with more trite caveman jokes. Not worth watching, even as comedy.

by Anonymousreply 45April 12, 2025 11:39 PM

Dead to me.

by Anonymousreply 46April 12, 2025 11:43 PM

I hate Trump, but I actually hate many politicians, and don't elevate a lot of them, from either party, which is I guess why this doesn't bother me very much. Also I haven't liked Maher for many years, so that's another reason I'm indifferent.

by Anonymousreply 47April 13, 2025 12:47 AM

If Satan is real and walks the earth at times I'm sure many people meet him and think he's one of the nicest guys they've ever met.

by Anonymousreply 48April 13, 2025 12:55 AM

I gave up on Bill Maher's Real Time about 2-3 years ago. He had gotten way too smug and insular about events not in his own bubble. Especially when he had really right wing extremists on his show and let them talk shit with little pushback or correction.

by Anonymousreply 49April 13, 2025 1:49 AM

After being impressed that Trump used the word lost when talking about 2020 did Bill ask him why he would then then incite an insurrection, commit treason and ask for an explanation about the the attempt to overturn the government? Were his answers charming, and real and self aware? Did he ask him why he has such an urge to lie and mislead the country about almost everything? Why it was important to create doubt about the election? We all know we have a work us and a personal us. Not everyone is the same in every room. Circumstances are always in play. Because someone performs a version of themselves they want you to see that does not eliminate everything they've ever showed you before. Fuck this piece of phony piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 50April 13, 2025 2:04 AM

Human garbage. 🤮🤬

by Anonymousreply 51April 13, 2025 2:28 AM

Thanks, R50. You summed it up quite nicely.

I think Maher is now dead to me. Ugh!

by Anonymousreply 52April 13, 2025 3:49 AM

R50 doesn’t understand the meaning of the word treason. Legally speaking, Trump hasn’t.

by Anonymousreply 53April 13, 2025 4:03 AM

Bitch, he stole top secret classified files and sold the information, then plotted to cover it up and STILL try to hide them, planned a fake slate of electors to steal an election from the people and defraud the United States. Do you know the meaning of the word treason?

by Anonymousreply 54April 13, 2025 4:09 AM

Here you are. Treason is the crime of betraying your country, for example by helping its enemies or by trying to remove its government using violence. Are you telling hasn't gone anywhere near this definition?

by Anonymousreply 55April 13, 2025 4:12 AM

Someone should create a specific thread about all the treason Trump is guilty of. hmm....

by Anonymousreply 56April 13, 2025 4:19 AM

Bill has old man odor now.

by Anonymousreply 57April 13, 2025 4:23 AM

Some people just live too fucking long.

by Anonymousreply 58April 13, 2025 4:29 AM

The person bitching about the definition of Treason needs to look up Dump’s ties to Putin. He has indeed committed Treason, along with about 500 other crimes to boot.

And if our previous administration had only had the balls to openly admit that we’re in a WAR with Russia, then maybe our DOJ could have done the job of locking his ass up.

by Anonymousreply 59April 13, 2025 4:48 AM

Rich people have a fine time with him.

by Anonymousreply 60April 13, 2025 7:02 AM

Dems maybe should have ran Bill last time he might have done better than Harris. Since it was a sweeping 0-3 loss for Harris Walz , Bill could not have done worse,

by Anonymousreply 61April 13, 2025 8:23 AM

R61 On the other hand, Bill Maher is not a politician and has no interest in running, as well as no real stances on anything (as we can see from his current rimming of Trump) so he could in fact have done worse

by Anonymousreply 62April 13, 2025 12:08 PM

“Bill is not a politician”

by Anonymousreply 63April 13, 2025 12:38 PM

[quote]no real stances on anything

Is that what passes for wisdom in these end-times?

by Anonymousreply 64April 13, 2025 12:40 PM

Bill is being pragmatic-like a lot of people . The Dems/liberals fucked the 2024 election up on all fronts so they don’t have the blind loyalty from thinking people that they used to have.

Soft on crime, liberal DAs, defund the police, open borders, wasteful government spending, trans, etc….turned many people off. That is is the sad truth . Time for Dems to be introspective with honesty. Which has not happened yet .

by Anonymousreply 65April 13, 2025 12:49 PM

[quote]If Satan is real and walks the earth at times I'm sure many people meet him and think he's one of the nicest guys they've ever met.

Which reminds me of the apt old saying, "You need a long spoon to sup with the devil." Maher has given us his short-spoon account.

by Anonymousreply 66April 13, 2025 1:13 PM

STFU, r65.

That shit again?

Chicken-shit Repugs who voted for Trump love to try to escape responsibility of their own volitional act of walking into a voting booth and casting a vote for a convicted criminal, 6 times bankrupted, adjudicated sex abuser, bigot, who, oh, when it comes to LOOTING tried to loot my vote and the votes of 77,000,000 other Americans out of the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021.

Complaining about what "turned many people off" provides a convenient deflection for them.

Hell, I'd actually have some grudging respect for a MAGA Trump voter who didn't resort to that and just openly, honestly stated, "I voted for the criminal Wealthy, White Male Trump because I didn't want to vote for the N-word lady."

by Anonymousreply 67April 13, 2025 1:16 PM

I believe Diana and Unity Mitford found found Herr Hitler to be a delightful tea companion too.

by Anonymousreply 68April 13, 2025 1:16 PM

It is the truth that hurts.

by Anonymousreply 69April 13, 2025 1:18 PM

"Time for Dems to be introspective with honesty."

That R65 puts the word honesty into a thread about pathological liar Donald Trump shows the extreme lack of critical thinking skills with R65, which makes R65's credibility about as plausible as Donald Trump ever speaking the truth.

Complete fail, R65, aka DeFacto.

by Anonymousreply 70April 13, 2025 1:19 PM

Right-on, r70.

by Anonymousreply 71April 13, 2025 1:21 PM

Good Lord, Bill Maher SHUT THE FUCK UP.

by Anonymousreply 72April 13, 2025 2:35 PM

Funny, I would feel perfectly comfortable talking to Clinton or Obama. The fact that he wouldn't yet feels comfortable with Trump says it all about him. He's a Trump fan. Shocker! /s

by Anonymousreply 73April 13, 2025 4:24 PM

He's protected from feeling anything because of his money and celebrity.

But this is the start of him not pushing back and defending some of the policies. Here's the thing - Trump knows he can't do all horrible stuff, so he is sprinkling in some common sense measures in order to say - well, that seems right. All to distract from the other more severe bullshit he's doing.

Maher should and really, he DOES know better. But he loves to stir people up and be a contrarian.

by Anonymousreply 74April 13, 2025 4:38 PM

He does love being a contrarian, but I think the bigger thing is he is so fucking obsessed with wokeness and how much he hates every sign of wokeness now that Trump seems like an acceptable alternative.

He loved telling everyone to fuck off cause he'll go visit Trump if he feels like it. Okay, fine, but even on its own terms, he admits that the whole thing was useless. He gasses on and on about reaching across the aisle and we all need to keep talking to each other, while admitting that Trump won't change in any way at all. No amount of reaching across the aisle is actually going to do shit, so why do it?

by Anonymousreply 75April 13, 2025 4:44 PM

Seriously?, He's fan gurling her America's Hitler??? He thinks he's telling us who Trump is, but instead he's showing the world who he is. It's true if you are rich you don't have to worry about your rights. Your money insulates you from everything

by Anonymousreply 76April 13, 2025 4:49 PM

"Your money insulates you from everything."

I have a real problem with your statement, R76.

by Anonymousreply 77April 13, 2025 5:00 PM

I hate that wokeness has been distorted as a catch-all for every little issue. It wasn't originally about that at all.

Now if you're not onboard with whatever new sexuality or other, then people feel free to shame you for not understanding or 100% support. THAT is the major problem here. People want to declare something and say - THIS is the new standard and expect everyone to jump on board.

It's like the new gay flag - a design promoted by some Portland graphic designer that somehow wasn't inclusive enough, they decided. They inserted additional meaning into something that was, by design, all comprehensive. And the gay and lesbian community just rolled over and said yes.

The thoughtless head-nodding and agreement by liberals of any new thing - and others trying to shame you if you don't agree - is part of what got us here in the first place. Nobody likes being told what to do - particularly if you don't see the need for it. Like putting your preferred pronouns into your email signature at work - 99.99% of the time it's the same ones everyone has been using all the time.

Meanwhile - it's a convenient distraction from housing crisis, economy, healthcare, education, etc. I wish people would start putting the same energy into that stuff as they do to the preferred pronoun issue.

It makes the left look petty, finger-wagging jerks who don't care about the real issues everyone is experiencing. I'm sorry but your pronouns, various sexualities, non-binary, etc. should take a back seat to real issues impacting everyone's lives.

There's an empathy well that only goes so deep - if we're constantly insecure about our future, housing and food are more difficult to obtain, job market sucks, etc. - don't be surprised if people don't have enough bandwidth to give a shit about your them/they and personal identity issues. That's a YOU problem - not something the rest of us need to be guilted into.

by Anonymousreply 78April 13, 2025 5:06 PM

[quote]It's like the new gay flag - a design promoted by some Portland graphic designer that somehow wasn't inclusive enough, they decided. They inserted additional meaning into something that was, by design, all comprehensive. And the gay and lesbian community just rolled over and said yes.

Sensible people don't give a shit about having a flag, r78. You appear to live your life on social media.

by Anonymousreply 79April 13, 2025 5:19 PM

R79 - no I don't live on social media - DL and Reddit only.

But if you don't give a fuck about replacing a flag that was there from the very beginning and represented 50 years of gay and lesbian struggle to have two other non-related movements inserted into it, then you're exactly the thoughtless head-nodding liberal I'm talking about.

by Anonymousreply 80April 13, 2025 5:26 PM

"It makes the left look petty, finger-wagging jerks who don't care about the real issues everyone is experiencing. I'm sorry but your pronouns, various sexualities, non-binary, etc. should take a back seat to real issues impacting everyone's lives."

And yet, Donald Trump single handedly wiped out billions and billions of dollars of peoples' retirement savings in a few day's time last week, an issue very near and dear to the hearts of voters.

And yet assholes like R78 keep insisting that trans people and wokeism are the problem here. What a fucking moron you are, R78. Fuck off, clown.

by Anonymousreply 81April 13, 2025 5:31 PM

Maher has carried a grudge over "woke" culture ever since he got axed from ABC post 9/11 for comments he had made. All of his "Give the other side a chance" and bemoaning liberalism stem from his (still bitter) resentment over what happened to him on Politically Incorrect.

He has never gotten over losing his job at ABC.

by Anonymousreply 82April 13, 2025 5:51 PM

No it's deeper than that. He never would have had a show in the first place if he didn't parrot right wing talking points for money.

by Anonymousreply 83April 13, 2025 6:07 PM

it seems like a misstep because he promises to remain hard on Trump but this will always undercut that. I wonder if Trump blackmailed him of he just getting feeble minded. Where is the upside for Maher?

by Anonymousreply 84April 13, 2025 6:11 PM

Which is really funny r82, because he was axed for not being down with the only allowed opinion, that the 9/11 hijackers weren't just evil, they were also cowards. That was the only acceptable opinion, and when he said they weren't technically cowards to kill themselves like that, it was the Right that went absolutely batshit and got him fired.

Unless you are one of those concerned with election outcomes the trans and woke issue is just not that important,

by Anonymousreply 86April 13, 2025 6:21 PM

[quote]“I’m not the leader of anything, except maybe a contingent of centrist-minded people who think there’s got to be a better way to run this country than hating each other every minute,” added Maher.

So that's a point the maybe-leader might have advanced to to his host, who has done more to increase and deepen hatred in his country, and proudly, than any other 'President' in living memory.

by Anonymousreply 87April 13, 2025 6:26 PM

R81 is perfectly fine letting the freaks take the stage in performative acts that regular Americans don't give a shit about.

And no it's not wokeism - it's the promotion of all these non-sensical ideas as being unquestionably valid that just seem silly and not serious to most people and their problems/worries.

There are only so many items you can address effectively in a political arena - pivoting toward all of these special interest demands waters down the message on other things. Well they talked about the housing situation for 5 minutes, then they talked about X for five minutes - so both must be of equal footing.

Look - gays and lesbians know that there are some people who will never be fine with homosexuality. But the new groups can't accept that until everyone falls in line with what they say.

A person can request using different pronouns because it applies to them - but to force everybody into stating their pronouns in this madness is insulting and counterproductive.

by Anonymousreply 88April 13, 2025 6:31 PM

[quote]I'm sorry but your pronouns, various sexualities, non-binary, etc. should take a back seat to real issues impacting everyone's lives."

And they do, r78. LoL, again, stop mistaking social media for real life.

by Anonymousreply 89April 13, 2025 6:33 PM

R89 - it is real life - all managers have to take a California-mandated course on equality and it includes sections on trans, non-binary, etc. and that it is an offense to not use the preferred pronouns.

Apply for a job - they ask you preferred pronouns. Look at people's work email signatures - it included preferred pronouns. To dismiss this as just something you see on social media is not just false, but willfully ignorant and untruthful.

And women are sick of being told to shut up when it comes to trans issues impacting them. It's not social media - oh that it were. So kindly shut the fuck up and get serious.

by Anonymousreply 90April 13, 2025 7:00 PM

I'm impressed by how all these practical, fiscally minded conservative voters (and their codependents) are manfully and with great stoicism accepting the trillions of dollars of personal wealth lost since tRump took office, the loss of standing in the world, the chaotic and ridiculous z- list cabinet choice, planes falling out of the fucking sky and daily threats to every foundational aspect of our democracy.

It's impressive that nary a peep comes from this crowd after all this pain and loss has been inflicted on them by their own vote or lack of vote (same result)

So yeah, clearly it's the fault of trans people and their pronouns and fags getting married etc, that they were FORCED to vote this way. They simply had no choice.

Even after every major economist pointed out that tRumps advertised tariffs would tank the economy, Even after his disaster of a presidency and demonstrated criminality, they HAD TO vote against RECORD MARKET GAINS under BIden/Harris and an economy that was be every metric the envy of the world. EVEN as these same economists explained carefully, that inflation was a global phenomenon and that the USA had it better than our allies and was getting better every day.

NO, they had NO CHOICE AT ALL because of trans people, and their fucking woke friends. Their right to call people retards and fags without rebuke was protected by their vote for an insurrectionist idiot and his gang of z- cabinet picks.

Planes falling out of the sky, Crashing markets, a diminished dollar, record losses of personal wealth.

Because of .... drum roll....

Pronouns

NO. You got what was advertised.

Time to reflect on your judgment, not point fingers at those you couldn't hear because your entitlement was so great you thought you could throw everything away in a tantrum,

by Anonymousreply 91April 13, 2025 7:07 PM

[quote]So kindly shut the fuck up and get serious.

LoL, r90, if you were serious you'd be concerned about *actual* issues and not right wing talking points. Preferred pronouns have zero to do with the economy, the environment, climate change, gun reform, the destruction of our Constitution...etc. *You're* the one who needs to get serious.

by Anonymousreply 92April 13, 2025 7:11 PM

[quote]R79 - no I don't live on social media - DL and Reddit only.

by Anonymousreply 93April 13, 2025 7:14 PM

Please note that Maher had no women on his show 4/11/25. Chicken.

by Anonymousreply 94April 13, 2025 7:24 PM

R85, he actually said something like American soldiers are cowards to sit in America and bomb other countries like it's a video game. That's what got him fired

by Anonymousreply 95April 13, 2025 7:40 PM

R95 - he didn't say that exactly - but he was saying it as a response to people saying the 9/11 hijackers were cowards.

But yeah - he was cancelled by the right. He must not remember.

by Anonymousreply 96April 13, 2025 7:46 PM

Nazi collaborator

by Anonymousreply 97April 13, 2025 8:05 PM

R78/R88/R90 (the same anti-trans troll) is like one of these Japanese soldiers stranded on a remote Pacific atoll who thought WWII was still going on, 5 years after it was over. When rescued, he insists he can't leave the island, let it fall into the hands of the enemy Americans. And even when presented with evidence that the Japanese emperor signed the armistice agreement, the dutiful soldier insists the emperor would him to fight on.

So even as Trump and the Republicans destroy the American economy, causing the greatest economic collapse in the history of humanity, R78/R88/R90 will still insist it was all the fault of the trannies and woke ideology. Because that's what dangerous ideologues do: give the finger to reality and scapegoat any marginal, powerless group on which to lay blame, all the while insisting this marginal, powerless group has undue influence on politics and voting patterns.

by Anonymousreply 98April 13, 2025 8:34 PM

r78 r88 r90 needs to watch this....although he most likely won't.

R84 it could be blackmail or it could be as simple as Bill being a pathetic coward who doesn’t want to be targeted as an enemy by someone who he’s trash talked a lot.

He probably shouldn’t be so worried. Trump loves white male celebrities so as long as Bill licked his ass just right they’ll be besties now.

by Anonymousreply 100April 14, 2025 1:25 AM

R98 - no you fucking idiot - nobody said it's because of trannies or wokeness. It's about making clear priorities and not getting bogged down into the identity politics.

The single thread in the Trump administration is CORRUPTION and no regard for law. We should be pounding that - stealing money from the gvt, working with hostile foreign powers, taking away YOUR money, etc.

But you keep your head in the sand and don't think any of this plays badly for the Dems - it absolutely fucking does.

by Anonymousreply 101April 14, 2025 1:53 AM

Why is a thread about Bill Maher turning into YET ANOTHER “Dems need to be non-woke!” thread? Maher isn’t even a Democrat.

by Anonymousreply 102April 14, 2025 2:05 AM

Maher hasn't been edgy in years. He gives Boomers a bad name.

by Anonymousreply 103April 14, 2025 2:23 AM

Maher was had. Trump knows how to play the nice game and he conned Maher for 2 1/2 hours. A disingenuous con, as we've all know that trump is a sociopath of the highest order. I'm curious to see how much Maher rags on Trump in the future.

by Anonymousreply 108April 14, 2025 12:57 PM

One of his guests tried to point that out to him on his show last week, but Bill got very indignant of course and shut him down

by Anonymousreply 109April 14, 2025 1:14 PM

Bill Maher is 69. Another boomer who won’t leave his job and thinks he knows best. Did he even ask Trump about wrecking the economy? Or was it just a lovely dinner? Disappointed.

by Anonymousreply 110April 14, 2025 1:23 PM

R102 since when?

by Anonymousreply 111April 14, 2025 1:46 PM

You can lump Bill Maher in the same dumpster fire as Joe Scarborough, who think it's a good idea to go down to Mar-a-Lago and kiss the ring and publicly attempt to normalize an authoritarian as a decent guy.

by Anonymousreply 112April 14, 2025 11:57 PM

Bill, I trusted you!

by Anonymousreply 113April 15, 2025 2:47 AM

According to Keith Olbermann, the real reason Maher met with Trump was because of David Zaslav, the right-wing billionaire nutbag who now owns CNN and HBO.

Beta Cuck trying to front.

by Anonymousreply 115April 15, 2025 6:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 116April 15, 2025 7:47 AM

It’s better to lose another 5 presidential elections than to compromise even a little with the likes of ring kissers like Bill M or Joe S or anyone that ever thought of voting for Trump or said nothing bad about Harris..

Principals are more important than winning. Stick to those principles.

R118 When your view on the current political reality is so myopic and askew that you are ripe for a satirical article in the NYT by Larry David , you seriously need to just drop out of public view,

by Anonymousreply 120April 21, 2025 6:13 PM

This is from a writer I follow.

[quote] I am also not surprised Maher liked Trump; they’re a lot alike. Both are insufferable older men who crave being seen as alphas, feeling somewhat oppressed by shifting cultural forces that leave them behind. Maher may be slightly more empathetic than Trump, likely due to his libertarian leanings. If you can excuse Trump’s blatant racism, xenophobia, disrespect for women, the Constitution, and societal norms, then, sure, he’s probably a fun guy to be around. I imagine he and Maher had a fantastic time calling people “retards.”

by Anonymousreply 121April 23, 2025 3:50 PM

Maher has been doing the false equivalency bullshit for about 8-10 years now. He gives more focus and energy to some of the over the top woke culture stuff, and seems to truly lose his shit over it, but glosses over the actual threats to our democracy. What MAGA has been doing is actually harmful, unconstitutional and autocratic . How is acceptable for Maher to go to a dinner with Trump? Did he kiss the ring? He's been justifying it as being civil . I'm sure HBO put pressure on him to do it. But having a dinner with a person who has been systematically destroying our rights, our civil liberties, reversing generations of progress , eliminating government agencies illegally. BUt hey, we were just having a cordial dinner and Trump is not a monster.

by Anonymousreply 122April 23, 2025 4:05 PM

[quote]Maher may be slightly more empathetic than Trump, likely due to his libertarian leanings.

Since when does libertarianism involve empathy?

by Anonymousreply 123April 23, 2025 4:10 PM

Libertarian is basically today's version of Objectivism. It's selfish and has little to no empathy.

I'm assuming he meant to say , liberal?

by Anonymousreply 124April 23, 2025 4:14 PM

He's pushing 70, and basically a loud-mouthed, old pothead in a suit, when it comes down to it. Remember that guy in your 20's, you didn't want to get high with, because they came off as a know-it-all, wouldn't shut up, and ruined your high. That's him.

Bill Maher Lashes Out At Larry David’s Mocking Of ‘Real Time’ Host’s Trump Dinner:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 126April 24, 2025 10:13 PM

Maher is the most snowflakey individual with his own show today. Larry David's satire piece was appropriate and defined what Maher did to a T. The Nazi reference was entirely appropriate as well. If Maher was in Nazi Germany he would be goosestepping in a Nazi parade.

by Anonymousreply 127April 24, 2025 10:20 PM

Once again, Maher missed the "big picture" of Larry's letter to the editor: he's a groveling, sniveling coward when confronted, just like Trump.

But we already knew that.

by Anonymousreply 128April 24, 2025 10:24 PM

As someone who watched Bill for FAR too long... FUCK HIM.

by Anonymousreply 129April 24, 2025 10:33 PM

Larry David can buy a sell a chump like Maher dozens and dozens of times over and still have tens of millions of dollars left over in pocket change.

That is Maher's real gripe with Larry David.

by Anonymousreply 130April 24, 2025 10:36 PM

I like watching Maher's show, but I am pissed that he met with Trump. Maher won't admit it, but he was used as a pawn.

I am glad Larry David took Maher down in such a stinging manner. More high-profile people should follow Larry's lead.

by Anonymousreply 131April 25, 2025 12:37 AM

R131, I just wish Larry didn't give us Cheryl and RFK Jr. They met through him. I always fucking hated Cheryl with a passion, she was the only flaw of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

***TRIGGER WARNING: PIERS MORGAN***

“INSULTING!” Bill Maher Responds To Larry David Essay on Trump Dinner

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 134April 25, 2025 3:50 AM

On one hand I can't believe how stupid and gullible Bill Maher is. But on the other hand Bill truly is a joke in his personal life. He & trump have so much in common. They HATE for anyone to tell them they are wrong and two measly lines of flattery will have the both of them eating out of your hand.

I watched a few videos of Bill's podcasts & he is such a MESS. He videotapes them & posts them on Youtube. Real Time is like day and night compared to his podcast. He's sharp on Real Time. He's a pathetic drugged out DISASTER on his podcast. He spends almost the entire 60 to 90 minutes drinking, smoking joint after joint, talking over his guests, barely allowing them time to get a word in edgewise & spends most of the podcast complaining about "wokeness & kids these days" and "how things used to be".

He gets SO STONED & seems like he has dementia or Alzheimer's Disease. He just repeats everything over & over and makes a fool out of himself. He keeps offering the guests pot. Unlike Bill, most of his guests have common sense & care about their public images and don't want videos out there of them smoking pot.

It's OBVIOUS the guests don't care what Bill's complaining about. One time when Bill was rambling on about something, a 20ish yr old influencer said, "I didn't know about that", Bill yelled at him, "yes, I know you don't know about history, that's why I'M TRYING TO TEACH YOU SOMETHING ". The influencer (like most of Bill's guests) almost rolled his eyes & practically remained silent until the show was over. He didn't go on the podcast to be lectured by a stoned, angry, old man.

Bill also says at least 4 times on each podcast that he's SO HAPPY that he never got married or had kids, then repeatedly BEGS the guests at least 4 to 10 times during each podcast to come back over to his man cave house (which he calls Club Random) ANYTIME" and hang out. Many of the guests are 20 something year old complete strangers to him or older people with children or even grandchildren. They don't want to party with some angry, lonely, friendless, pathetic old man.

All the guests are embarrassed for Bill because he's so high & he's a super lonely old man without any real friends. Dana Carvey was super embarrassed at Bill's behavior (as are many of his guests). Bill & Trump have so much in common. I guarantee you that Bill didn't want to leave at the end of those 2 hr dinner & would have been DELIGHTED to have stayed all night with trump, complaining about "kids these days" and "woke this & woke that".

by Anonymousreply 135April 25, 2025 10:54 AM

Bill owns a mansion and two large homes (he bought the homes next door to his mansion). The 3 homes are surrounded by one big fence (it's a compound), but they have 3 separate addresses. One of the homes is his man cave/club house (he calls it Club Random). The other is the mansion he lives in & the other he just bought because he didn't want close neighbors.

If you watch his Real Time show, the real reason it took him so long to get his solar power hooked up is because grumpy old man Bill INSISTED that there only be one solar hookup for all 3 homes combined. The power authorities always just do one hookup per house. Not many people own 3 homes in a row. But Bill spent a fortune and wasted LOTS of the taxpayer's money INSISTING he only have one solar hookup for 3 homes. It took him almost 2 years to finally get his way. Extremely rich people problems. He's a silly, old cunt. When he drops dead or overdoses his estate will have to undo it & hook up each one separately

Bill's constant bitching and moaning about this solar power problem reminded me of trump moaning and bitching about light bulbs, toilet bowls & shower heads.

by Anonymousreply 136April 25, 2025 10:59 AM

This is the same as Tucker Carlson going to Moscow and raving about what an impressive city it is. Same thing.

by Anonymousreply 137April 25, 2025 1:15 PM

It's either that or he's just stupid & gullible. Bill Maher HATES to be told that he's wrong. So does trumpy. They both think they know EVERYTHING

by Anonymousreply 138April 25, 2025 1:21 PM

Maher went for the cheap shot at David and pulled the old "it's was an insult to victims of the Holocaust."

At no time whatsoever did Larry mention the Holocaust in his letter to the NYT, nor did he disparage the victims of Hitler's racist policies or marginalize/minimize their suffering. Why would he? Larry is a Jew.

What he was pointing out the utter futility of Maher trying to create a dialog with some assclown who is doing his best to stifle all political discourse, especially if it puts Trump in a bad light.

by Anonymousreply 139April 25, 2025 2:52 PM

First Larry David was yelling at Alan Dershowitz at a store on Martha's Vineyard for supporting Trump, now he's coming for Bill Maher. We need more people like him.

by Anonymousreply 140April 25, 2025 3:19 PM

Bill Maher got played, and he doesn't want to admit it--or even think that it may be a possibility.

by Anonymousreply 141April 25, 2025 10:17 PM

[quote]Bill Maher got played, and he doesn't want to admit it--or even think that it may be a possibility.

The second I read this I thought of DL's perfect clown emoji. The more Maher protests, the deeper his clownship. And thus Trump so effortlessly beclowns yet another, till the end of their days and beyond.

by Anonymousreply 142April 26, 2025 7:21 AM

R140 These are just extrememly rich celebrities who have nothing to worry about in life. Big deal, Larry David yelled at Alan Dershowitz. What does it solve?

by Anonymousreply 143April 26, 2025 10:21 AM

It’s funny that Maher complained about Larry David going too far on a show titled “Uncensored.”

by Anonymousreply 144April 26, 2025 10:39 AM

Still want to be underwhelmed? Larry David was at Rainbow Bridge Natural Food store in Ojai, CA on Thursday, studying the ingredients label on an $11.99 jar of cashew butter.

by Anonymousreply 145April 26, 2025 2:11 PM

After dinner with Trump, Maher got down on his knees and blew Trump, then licked Trump's shit encrusted asshole.

Trump then decided Maher was the perfect stooge to go forth into the hinterlands and proclaim to America that Trump is not the second coming of Hitler. At least not yet, anyway.

by Anonymousreply 146April 26, 2025 2:37 PM

[quote]What does it solve?

It was part of the shunning of Dershowitz. He told him that he was 86'd from a party and then gave him a good old fashioned dressing down ("you're disgusting" etc). We need more of this. The shunning is great but the public spectacle of verbally blasting the magat is icing on the cake. I dream of doing this, so for me, Larry is living out a fantasy of mine. I wish it had been recorded.

You figure out a position and start pushing towards it, thinking long-term. Visible resistance means a lot, even if it doesn't change things overnight (and look at T-Rump's poll numbers now).

by Anonymousreply 149April 26, 2025 4:11 PM

R136 - interesting background on his solar beef. Energy companies have to keep the credits from solar energy separate for each building/residence.

The reason why he wanted to combine them together is to offset the over-use on one household - he wanted to harness the power of the other 2 homes to keep his electric bill down to $0 for the main house, instead of adding more solar panels to the main house.

It's the most boomer and over-privileged thing I've seen in a long time. So when he sells, he's going to sell all 3 homes together? Not likely. Just shows what an asshole he is - and how UNTRUTHFUL he was about the whole solar thing he kept going on and on about.

And he had the nerve to blame LIBERALS about the solar issue - when it's a city and utility issue.

by Anonymousreply 150April 26, 2025 4:20 PM

In Maher's narrowly focused, pot infused brain, R150, the "libs" are running the city and the utility companies.

In Maher's, Trump and MAGAt eyes, you're being woke when you won't let me do whatever the hell I want to do, regardless of how it effects others.

by Anonymousreply 151April 26, 2025 4:59 PM

R149 your jr GI Joe troll hunting hat is not working. Those are different trolls being hunted by a piss poor troll hunter.. So many trolls in your world I realize it’s hard to keep track.

by Anonymousreply 152April 26, 2025 5:05 PM

Maher now reminds me of Elmo. Attack your base (lefties driving Teslas) and then express shock when your sales drop 71%! MAGAT Nation will never attend Maher’s shows and cannot tolerate anything above GED level “discussions” on his shows. Not good business, Doofus. You painted yourself into that fascist corner. Enjoy.

Sorry, R152, if I've confused you with another sad troll who shares your fallacies.

R154 all I know is that you are a piss poor troll hunter.

by Anonymousreply 155April 26, 2025 6:32 PM

These guys (including Trump) only care about what other rich white male celebs think of them so Larry David’s judgment does matter. You can tell because of how immediately butthurt Maher got about it.

by Anonymousreply 156April 26, 2025 9:59 PM

R143, it gets the word out to more people that dershowitz is a piece of shit. I liked that people wrote articles about it and also reminded people that dershowitz is pro-trump, pro-pedophilia, pro-rape and pro-child sex trafficking.

But of course that would disappoint someone like you.

by Anonymousreply 157April 26, 2025 10:39 PM

R134, Bill has piers morgan on all the time. That guy is such a piece of shit. I'll NEVER forget how he got American & British soldiers killed in retaliation for a fake article he made up & printed during the Iraq War. He wrote that American soldiers were torturing Iraqis and was completely FALSE. He just made it up. The Iraqis retaliated and murdered American & U.K soldiers. And the article was exposed for being 100% fake, piers refused to apologize. And he even got fired for it. And to this day, he STILL refuses to apologize. So, of course Bill loves him

After he was fired, the fucking idiots at CNN hired piers morgan to replace Larry King. I've hated CNN since the day they hired that fat, lying cunt

by Anonymousreply 158April 26, 2025 10:57 PM

R158 Agreed. I don’t know why they chose the most uncharismatic British cunt of all time to replace King, who was excellent.
