Was Gus Fring a Top or Bottom?

It's unusual that they made his character Chilean given his not-so-great Spanish.

Hard to imagine him ever turning loose.

I assumed he was oral only!!!! Gus was so OCD, I think his aversion to anything messy would prevent him from getting too rowdy on the sack, sadly, because he’s a gorgeous man.

I don't speak Spanish but I live in a area with a large Lation population, I hear it every day, and even I could tell his Spanish was awful.

It seems like his accent became more pronounced once the show identified him as Chilean. I didn't detect any accent during his early BB episodes, he just sounded overly-formal and stilted. He really leaned into the accent during BCS. I always found his character interesting and was able to overlook the bad accent and labored Spanish.

They wanted to portray him as someone who had an accent that he dropped by the time he got in his Breaking Bad era.

That's fun theory but the shows only take place six years apart. Plus Gus doesn't seem like the type who would play down his foreign origin.

I never understood why Vince Gilligan made Gus’ sexuality so vague on the show. Reminded me of how Hollywood screenwriters and directors depicted gays during the Hays Code.

Gustavo made a couple appearances on NYPD Blue before he became Gus. So did Jesse, Skylar and Tuco.

It's probably just as well that that his accent was bad. Chilean Spanish is really difficult on the ears. I speak Castillian Spanish. I'm fine with Mexican and Central/South American accents, but not the Chilean one. It's been decades since I've heard it, so I can't remember well enough to describe, but it was hard to understand.

Did they ever explain his character's ethnic background? "Fring" is probably some Germanic language surname. Of course both Chile and Argentina have large populations that descend from European immigrants, but they're mostly from Spain or Italy, I believe.

His business partner was never "openly stated" as his boyfriend on the show. If the script characterized it that way, then that proves my point. What appeared on screen was downplayed and made ambiguous.

I’m basing that off Breaking Bad, btw. I never watched Better Call Saul. If it was revealed on BCS that his business partner was also his lover, then my mistake.

R37: After Breaking Bad ended, I was sort of done with those characters and had no interest in revisiting them in a prequel series. But I'm tempted to watch it, considering all the high praise it has received from the fans.

I could never be done with the Breaking Bad universe. I’m upset there’s no plans to continue it. Why not? Even if it was mediocre, it would be better than 95% of the crap that comes out.

A couple years ago I caved and started watching it when it came to Netflix. It's so damn good. I definitely recommend it. Not quite as good as BB, but very very close.

Some say BCS is the better show.
